Abandoned Volvo 745 Turbo in the Woods!

- Well well well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions! That's right, I bought another non running piece of Swedish perfection!
This car was in a collection of cars that sat after the owner sadly passed away. We have bought several of them and will be posting more videos as we work through them.
Please forgive my slow upload pace as I work a regular 9-5.

I'm generally not a fan of aftermarket wheels but those BBS look great. IMHO this was peak Volvo.

Fun fact, almost everyone in sweden wants the american headlights for their 740, they cost around 1000 dollars in sweden. Lucky for you to have them stock on that car😉

I've had two 760 turbo sedans and they were my favorite cars ever. Huge regret selling them. This one looks like a good prospect for a restore by someone...wish it was me!

I’ve got a ‘90 745 Turbo in the darker metallic grey with 116,000 KM. I’ve owned a bunch of Volvos, including a ‘16 V60, but the 745 is by far my favourite.

Happy Birthday amigo. That car uses 2 fuel pumps Dean. White relay in the fuse box. It’s mostly 240 parts anyway.
Tried jumping the relay and no pump is heard

Had there been more sunshine available, I would have judged your gapping of the spark plug to be a Pinnacle in the Annals of Shade Tree Mechanicdom. Alas that there was no shade available. I hope that the end result of the rehoming of this Turbo Wagon is yet another Deanworthy machine.
Well said! If anything my precise deduction of possible causes has been precisely parred down to a pint sized pump failure. Maybe radio suppression relay!

Make sure you check your radio noise suppression relay and fuel pump relay. 740’s are notorious for not starting for a few simple reason.
A quick google search will lead you to some old forums that give a extensive flowchart of no-start issues on 740’s and their solutions

It was a radio suppression relay that caused a no-start issue on my '90 740 last March. Installed a new RSR and away it went. 😊

Whilst it is nice to watch you resurrect this 740, id stay away from it. I had 2 of these and man, they are really pain in the ass to work on. However, no harm trying to bring this back on the road.
This one is from the collection of about 14 cars. Im satisfied with getting it out and cleaning it up and learning it needs a fuel pump. Since we have a ton of other cars waiting for my attention, this one is available to anyone that wants it!

Nice you got it, very rare in sweden 745 turbo, most of them are scraped or converted to A traktor(it goes as a tractor that kids 15 years are allowed to drive in 30 km/hour. But most of them drive it like a car😅

Oh and the radio supresion relay gives power to the injectors and other stuff under le hood. That shity relay goes bad a lot.

@@DeanofMachines HBD, man. Anyway, I seem to remember that the late 240s use it as an AC fan relay. Has a 4-pin plug on the bottom.
I would defo remove the wheels and put some spares on her. She looks a solid bus for someone to have a go with... get her listed and down the road....

grounding strap from the valve cover to the firewall(happened to me more then once) or the relay that sits beside the power steering resevoir(noise supprension relay). 240 have a lot of parts that are the same form the never models with lh2.2
I fixed the ground strap. RSR is a consideration
Sometimes the 740 had one in tank pump, and one inline. If you thwacked the inline with a little rubber mallet It would sometimes start working. Just saying.
Ill take a look when I get a chance!

@@DeanofMachines I thought you might have. I would suggest before you actually get this engine to run that you drain the old oil and replace the oil filter. No sense restoring one of these back to running condition only to damage the engine with old oil that has broken down. The new owner will thank you!

That front spoiler hurt to watch on the unload, but it looks like in true Volvo fashion that it didn’t care and just popped back into place.
