5:17 Its most likely "Piroska", its a hungarian name, sometimes nickname for someone. There is no translation for english, but Piros means Red in Hungarian (this has nothing to do with it the first sentence, i just wrote it as a "fun fact") [Edit: +fun fact. In Hungary, Piroska is the name for the girl, from "Little Red Riding Hood"]

Hey Dean. Take it from me, you do not have a problem! I'm a reader. While books take up less room than the average Flying Brick, they still cost money. Like the average Flying Brick rescue, they take time to complete. Currently, I have multiple stashes of unread books in multiple places in the house just as you have multiple Volvos in various locations.When my long-suffering spouse looks quizzically as I open yet another package with a new or used book in it I get the sense that she is thinking (loudly) that enough is indeed enough. But these books my friend, are what your cars are to you. Rather than cluttering your home with emotional support animals, you have your emotional support stash of Volvos waiting to be rejuvenated. Just as my emotional support stash of books keeps me centered and balanced, your car stash does the same for you! Live long and prosper, friend!

I'm impressed of your collection. I collected old Volvos for about thirty years but mainly of the 120 and 140 Series. I even owned some 240's and 740'/940's and a '72 B 58-60 Bus. It was real fun to deal with cars built this tough. In 1990 I became a car-mechanic (learned at a Volvo dealership). I almost owned every type of Volvo built between 1962 and 1972 (except the 1800 ES). I visited Sweden several times and also the Volvo-Museum and the Torslanda Works in Göteborg.
Ca. 2012 I had to end this because of health issues. My daily driver today is a '69 145. After I had nearly 50 Volvos of different kinds I can assume that the Volvos of the 140 Seriers are the best cars Volvo ever built. But I even loved to drive the Duetts, Amazons, 240's and 740/940's and all the others.

The way I see it, it’s a few good parts on a lot of cars.
Car #4 puts me in mind of my own 740, which I really need to get back on the road in time for summer.
It's interesting to see that the car has a lockable boot/trunk floor, which I've heard about but have never actually seen.
I always found it to be a funny feature. Whats the point of it?

The brown van doesn’t have points and carbs unfortunately. It does have brittle wiring though!

You said you were gonna make some bad financial decisions but if I recall you said that she was selling the cars for $500 each and if thats the case I'd say you got a good deal for all those Volvos parts to price wise. Glad someone like you could save most of the poor volvos!
Prices were dependent on paper work and overall condition. Most of what I picked up was to use for the channel and then find a new home.

The rear trailing arm mounts are solid on the bus…. They often rot and collapse. It’s a good start

@@DeanofMachines I’ve had a good few T25’s as they’re called in the UK (T3’s everywhere else) simple mechanics but like to rot. If it’s water cooled, the head bolts go through the water jacket and can cause some issues

PS: Red rust stains all around the coolant hoses - it had a blown HG and they drove it with straight water for a while and a lot of it ended up in the oil, and some outside too.

Lol, TOO MANY CARS! On the black wagon, there are some rusty water looking stains on the radiator and below it on the intercooler piping, likely from it puking rusty coolant out. I made the comment, and then you called it out as a HG issue yourself in the video.

This is America so ALL of these cars are almost certainly automatic transmission which is a shame. Potentially nice cars IF they were manual transmission BUT they're not.
Some were manual! Most of the 240s were auto though :(

@@DeanofMachines When I first learned to drive (at age 11 on my grandfather's farm) I remember my father telling me "It's all about your clutch control - once you have got the hang of the clutch then all the rest is a doddle". People in automatics say they enjoy driving but I can't see how that can be true as clutch control & changing gear manually IS driving. Automatic is a step towards a driverless car, is it not?
@@ANationalAcrobat-qj2dl you aren’t wrong. It depends on the individual. If you live in a major metropolitan area, it makes a lot of sense to have an automatic. Sitting in a manual commuter car for over an hour in traffic gets old quickly
