Flexiny ... I bought my 92' 2.4 turbo diesel inter-cooler manual shift, off of a driveway in Totnes back in November 2022. It had been standing for 18 months, but started with lots of the usual clatter and oil smoke, settled down to a thrum and a clean exhaust after about 3 minutes. She helped me move house, returning an average of 40mpg with wafty heated seats and an original Volvo Blaupunkt for tunes. One of the nicest land barges I've driven yet, and it took just pennies to get her mobile ... Volvo goodness ... 🤗 ...
Heater blower, horn, wipers and probably a few more things are wired via the ignition key. If memory serves there are two wires that should go hot in the run position. On one of my 940s, every so often I have to turn the key carefully back to just before where the car would turn off and heater, horn, wipers etc start working. Play / looseness in the ignition lock.

If owner wait that engine heat up (like it should be) slowly and with gentle driving until warming up ! Than it will never ever develop Head crack issue. D 24 is Bulletproof engine, and it is a 6 cyl version of 1.6 (4 Cyl engine) from VW Golf 1 & 2 !
I worked for Volvo for 18 years and only seen 2 diesel engines in cars in the states. Both had 300,000+ miles, ran great and no rust. Gotta love them Swedes

The moment that cam belt cover, cam cover and oil fill cap came into sight I know it was VW. Funny how some design cues just are so identifiable, I've never worked on one of these engines though the VW 5 cylinders are very familiar to me. It really does sound like the 1.6d engine with extra cylinders too. Great, thank you for sharing this.
I'd love to find an old volvo like this and bring it back to life. The only thing I'd buy from VW is the engine in a Volvo like this! I had an S60 D5 for 5 years and I miss it. I'm now using a diesel Honda Civic tourer but I'll be going back to Volvo for definite
I remember changing the bushes on the alternator on my dad's Volvo the. Revs where bad and rev counter went below one. So easy to remove the alternator

No this is VW inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine with intercooler (engine code D24TIC) This engine is also on VW LT first generations, if in doubt, google is your friend here.
