Unplug when you don't want to be listened on to. I got Alexa for free surveillance, motion activated Blink cameras pointed at my driveway. I already had Amazon prime so I didn't have to look for another company and pay them monthly fees for security cams. This is pretty neat. Again, you can just unplug when you are home, for days at a time, if you feel like it. I like the idea to attach a blink camera to point it at my living room when I'm away for the weekends so I can see what is going on with my cats. Some people just don't care if they are being spied on or not so they'll even put the echo dots in their bedrooms. A tad too much, in my opinion.
Listening in on your conversations and keeping records of everything you say.
yeah, it literally must be listening all the time to hear the key word, no technology in the world could just pick up the single word, it has to be listening and saving the recordings

You can change the wake word to “Echo”, “Computer”, or “Amazon”. Alexa is the default, but it doesn’t have to be what’s used.
Or Alyssa. There's one at my job and every time we call the employee's name Alexa answers. So we just started muting her.

Me wondering why Alexa didn’t trigger when they were talking about her but did trigger when they wanted her.
Alexa only responds if you talk directly to her ,Meaning when you start a sentence with Alexa. Otherwise if you are in day to day conversation she does not pickup her name unless it is emphasized.
It can lose your TV and never rehook to it and then answer questions you never ask it. Eventually it does the backstroke in the swimming pool...
True story. She's been at the bottom of the pool for a week now.
Two awesome things I do every day are:
"Open riddle of the day" (once you say the command you then can just say "riddle of the day") riddle of the day is well a riddle that is different every day, alexa will give you more intrusions.
"Good morning" you will get very brief info about what is or is happening about today.
She can spy, lie and frame you. Totally worth the money

I've been hearing that this device records everything you say and listens for "trigger words" and sends that information to some covert agency that will investigate you for what you say or any other noises it hears.

Amazon, here's a thought, instead of requiring people to have to open a phone app EVERY SINGLE TIME your 'smart speaker' does something stupid; turn on the ability to TELL the thing to report it's mistake. This is BASIC common sense, let along good programming. The fact that you haven't done this lets us know you don't want to hear when these things don't work. If you did you'd have no excuse for not fixing them. Just one more reason why when the government finally does come for you, you'll have no support from the public.

Hey, something that might interest you. A couple of days ago my Amazon account was closed with no warning for after hours of wasted time they're telling me it's for excessive returns which I think is an error but that's beside the point. When they closed my Amazon account all my Amazon devices that I own for years primarily all my Echo devices stopped working. I lost access to the Amazon Photos and Prime Video which I pay for. So apparently the devices you already own are subject to be disabled by Amazon on your perceived shopping habits! I assume the same applies to all other Amazon devices and services like fire OS tablets, Ring cameras, and probably AWS as well. Just wanted to make other people aware of this because they definitely don't tell you this when you buy your hardware and services.
