Hello Bryan, i think you mixed up this song with "war of hormone", the one who got bts been critized about misogynistic. But i love how you still positive and give your honest reaction. You are the one best and genuine reactor.
I wish maybe you could react to "Spring Day" someday (may be when the spring comes).. and maybe react to more ot7 songs, so you could know the rest of the members. But anything will be great. I'll be waiting for your next reaction. Thank you.

It's difficult to interpret this song without knowing the original (Korean) title which is "A Poem for Small Things". A good thing to do is always check to see if there is a Korean title for songs. It often reveals meaning that doesn't exist in the English title. But despite that you pretty much nailed it. The song is about trying to get back to the things that make life enjoyable when the burdens of your persona become too big. It's about getting away from the persona, back to the "small things" that exist behind the mask. So I think you are pretty spot on with your analysis. BTW, your bias wrote all the lyrics except J-hope's and Suga's bars.

I think BTS have proved you can be more than one thing. I see reactors change from 'never liking pop' to loving all BTS songs whatever the genre. I went from rock and indie to being a hardcore ARMY and now I watch and listen to BTS every day. As RM said, ' I'm not pop, I'm not rock, I'm not funk, I'm not R&B or hip hop'. He is anything he wants to be and that is now my mantra. Don't pigeonhole yourself and the world will open up to you. It's so exciting and diverse!💜

  • @Belbecat
    @Belbecat Před 2 lety +13

It may sound like a love song, it's actually a self love :) They're boys with love for themselves and others, not actually talking about trying to be in a romantic relationship with anyone but they just want to know about you (listener, or fan) and thanking the fans that lifted them high and helped them find love for themselves and now they want to give it back to us. You don't need to want to be in a relationship with someone to want to know how they are, what they like - a boy with love is strong like that, instead of the angsty Boy who is in love, where they fear being heart break etc.

Persona in the background is because this song is off their map of the soul: persona album. Oh, just FYI, during the mv you pointed out the 1st rapper, (bluish hair who raps, other blue hair that songs is V.) & said j hope, but that's suga. J hope is the one rapping at 8:20 💜 and, this was their song to kinda make up for their song boy in love. Boy in love and war of hormone are the ones that some people deemed sexist. You should check out some vocal line stuff. 💜

I took psychology in college and I learned we as humans have different parts of our personalities/faces. We all have EGO, Persona and the Shadow, by the way, BTS rap line did each one of them. Jhope did Ego, RM did Persona and Suga did Shadow. Persona is a mask we use towards society, is the impression we want to give people, some people called it the fake part of us, but it's not fake it's just the better part of ourselves. So my theory is that boy in Luv is the Persona BTS wants to portray to everyone. The typical good boys, boyband that do pop music, that is BTS persona but only army knows the other side of them their EGO and Shadows because we are not only looking at their pop superficial music, which is amazing; but we also listen to their other songs that talk about their true feelings.

Fortunately, Boy in Luv didn´t receive negative comments (except from some antis and haters) and they keep singing the song (they sang it at 2019 MMAs). It was a well received (although in this school era many fans of other groups accused BTS of "copying" their faves, as if the school concept had been invented in Korea)

For the fanchant part, K-companies give fans official fanchants that shows what to say on which part if they want to join. it was such a genius move to make this song the title track of the mini album map of the soul: persona
a pop-y, refreshing, sweet song aimed toward their fans is deceptively simple if you dont have the context of their map of the soul series.
t felt so meta when the mv came out with the whole theatrical themed set pieces and bright colors.
like it was lovely and fun but knowing that shadow was soon to follow it felt like the calm before the storm lol. like "okay lets start with what we all know before getting into the rough terrain"
really think they hit the nail on the head when it comes to expressing "persona" with a song

Great video Bryan, Im glad you enjoyed it.
Side note, I just caught most of your Q and A - looking forward to the content you've got lined up. 😎
I'm so happy you watched the live after the MV - as you can see they are such amazing performers live - you really gave this song the respect it deserves. 💜
Now you've heard 3 whole group songs I think you can hear how unique and different all their voices are and how they all complement each other. But all members shine very differently on each song depending on the style. I know that Mic Drop is your favourite whole group song so far, but I think you'll be surprised, I'm sure there will be more whole group songs you will add to your playlist and some vocal line too. To me whats awesome about the lives apart from their vocals/rap and dancing is their adlibs and their facial expressions, they really put everything into their performances.
Youll notice that there is often some level of attitude, cheekyness and particularly humour to their dancing and performances, both in MV's and lives - as you get to know them more, you will see that it isnt all just their performance or persona, but also part of their personalities.
Yeah Boy with Luv I have to be in a particular mood for, so tend to skip it more than others on my playlist. But to be honest even if I don't think I feel like it when it first comes on, once it starts if I let it get past the first minute or so it just gets me, I just get into it and leave it on. It's like that expression, BTS / the song 'twists my arm' 😆
Also Ive got to mention I love Jins line 'your one, your two' - I just think that's a wonderful sentiment to not just be number one to someone, but your so important your also number 2. 😊
I mean if you compare the lyrics of popular songs from other male or boy groups the lyrics just dont compare and given those groups songs dont have raps there are generally less and more repetative lyrics in their songs and usually no way near the depth of meaning. Korean songs also tend to have a more complex song structure. For the people that try to group them with other groups labelled as 'boybands' even with this song, probably their most pop sounding song, with the combination of vocals and rap, the stage presence and dancing, there is just no comparison. 👌

Persona is a mini album release few months before the full extended album Map of the Soul, this was the MV for the main track. It is part of the BU developing Karl Jung theories. You will see a sentence mentioning Icaro wings as earlier in the BU during Blood sweat and tears MV was already tackled the same theme through one of the Pictures of Vs balcony. But it is hard to explain if you don't dip deep into the BU, sorry. Always think that BTS songs hide much more than what you see in the surface, you have to go several later down to start to connect everything. I am sure you noticed that by now 🤪

Honestly it really does. There are seven of them and I think everyone has trouble keeping track of who's who at first, especially those of us who only found them in the last few years because then we are bouncing back and forth through there extensive discography and all their eras up to now and they all change their look so much throughout that it can get confusing at times. I've been an ARMY a little over a year now and I'm finally at a point I can accurately tell who's who about 98% of the time and even then I still get some of them confused every now and then.

I think this song is a nice little reminder of a simple kind of love, I like the come be my teacher, for example, acknowledging the exchange that needs to happen in relationships and there humility in it too.
I do agree with your interpretation that this is for army. It is part of their persona to treat army as a significant other. It’s cute and not ill-intended but it is also very much a fun act, not lie exactly but also very much outwards-facing rather than deep feelings. If you compare it to We are Bulletproof: the eternal, this is cheeky and light whereas there they go I to their actual feelings for army, which is something more real and meaningful. There’s a reason that song is played as an emotional encore at concerts.
Not to say that this song isn’t great, of course, it’s meant to be fun and it is very fun!

Love your reactions! Just an fyi...there was some controversy with Boy In Luv due to the seemingly harsh treatment of the girl in the video (one of the members shoving her up against the locker and pulling her by the wrist down the hall for example) and I have heard that Boy With Luv was like a redo as well. J-Hope is a sub vocalist and Jungkook is a sub rapper. So I guess they can both be considered part of each line. Jungkook is the main vocalist. He does most of the backgrounds and adlibs and is given credit on every single one of their songs. Jimin is the lead vocalist. Also, J-Hope was between Jungkook and V (V had the really blue hair) when they were all dancing in a line in the restaurant. In order in that line from l to r are... RM, V, J-Hope, Jungkook, Jimin, Suga and Jin. Hope that helps. LOL The guy with blue hair that was rapping on the keyboard...you said it was J-Hope, don't know if anyone already posted it or not but that was Suga rapping, J-Hope was the one rapping right after that.

May not be your jam and that's ok. Just know that if you're in a bad place, there's a relationship or there that's good and pure... Are you're in it 🤗

From your introduction it sounds like a whole lot of fandom lore and word of mouth misinformation has entered it's way into your comment section. The song they were criticized for (misogyny) in terms of lyrics was War of Hormone and that's the accusations to which RM responded with the statement that he refers to a scholar in womans studies to examine his lyrics, quite some time before BWL came out. Not saying any is your fault or that you're spreading misinformation. Just saying that the fandom sometimes takes things out of context and I think we should always refer back to what the boys actually said in their interviews and vlives. Thanks for the reaction, this was the only point I wanted to say. I always enjoy your videos and insights!

Thank you for commenting, it's also possible I mixed up comments about what happened when. I did a BTS Hardships reaction and I probably mixed up facts from that comment section.
      Sorry if I did that!

I think you should assemble few helpful ARMYs on discord or Patreon where they can help you through your journey down the rabbit hole, they can provide context, counsels and knowledge regarding the music, but also everything that encompass BTS, k-pop and Korea.
A few reactors do that, cause I've watched your reactions but you seem a bit lost to what the songs are about, if they are for Armys, if they are a part of the BU, so you lack a bit of direction and help to comprehend their music, which is okay but I'm sure a lot of Armys would be glad to help you. 💜

Halsey represents both the Anima and ARMY. At least 7 songs on the MOTS 7 album are written directly to ARMY.
The MV has scenes that are a direct callback to Singin' in the Rain - a poster of which appears on the Persona theater. The storyline of Singin' in the Rain was about the real singer hiding behind the curtain while the fake one lip syncs on stage. In Intro: Persona, RM's colorful coat has a patch referring to the Wizard of Oz - The Great Oz was another illusion hiding behind a curtain - and RM and his avatar stand in front of a curtain in the MV. The curtain, of course, is a metaphor for the Persona hiding the full Self.
Yeah, so, lots to unpack, but don't hesitate to call Boy With Luv "poppy". It definitely is. BTS style.

Kind of surprised you chose this particular song, to be honest. I would think they have so many other songs which you would enjoy more, although I might be mistaken.

Hi Bryan, as usual that was a great and honest reaction. This isn’t one of my favorite songs either but as with all BTS songs, I love the meaning behind it.
Please check out RM’s Do You. It’s pretty much his voice & the sound of a metronome which is so unique. I was never a fan of rap before I got into BTS & it took me a while before I moved on from the vocal line to check out the rap line material. Do You made me a rap fan & now of course I love all the rap line songs.
I know it’s hard to get into the vocal line when the rap line is so good but don’t miss out on some amazing songs by the vocal line. All 7 are truly talented individuals, their all different but complete as a whole if that make sense.

Now you are starting to see the difference between BTS and other groups. With other groups (especially pop groups), the more you look at them, the worse they are. With BTS, the closer you look, the better they are.
