    The small carbon fiber verticals spaced evenly along the wings leading edge are call “wing rakes” while the large, blended foam end cord verticals are called the “vortex generators,” though they both do, technically generate vortices.
    Wingtip vortex generators generally increase lift, reduce drag (both just under 20%) and also (more relevantly for big heavies) reduce the required separation distance/duration.
    Wing Rakes also increase lift, reduce drag but are more for improving stability, especially on the edge of stall and aiding recovery from stalling.
    Pardon, this very minor little niggle that I only mention, as I did my thesis on this topic for Fluid Mechanics.
    Soviets installed a pair (on each wing) roughly mid-wing and running the full cord on their MIG-17s in the mid 1950s.
    R. C. Christian

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Před 2 lety +1

      That's very interesting and good to know. On the S800 they are usually referred to as vortex generators, and are typically used to lower the stall speed, but they do also have the added benefit of improving flight stability. Whatever they are actually called, they're worth installing :)

      @gizfpv  Před 3 lety

      A 63a esc? I've never heard of a 63a one 😂 If yours is like mine though then I can appreciate how much power it has. Mine actually scares me on launch. It's hard to keep hold of when you throttle up 😂

    • @13FPV
      @13FPV Před 3 lety

      @@gizfpv The esc is a Airbot Wraith32 Metal V2 66A, I thought 62, but it's even 66Amp. The launch is scary and fast indeed! I always use auto launch and the throttle goes from 0 to 80% (or... from peaceful to terror😂) after the throw and it’s gone! 💪🏼
      Here is a video of my s800, including launch and at the end I show the wing, (if you find it interesting)...
      czcams.com/video/nATWNs5DjLY/video.html
      And recently I updated my elevons to 3d printed ones. The stock foamies were not up to the task above 150km/h. It’s so locked in now! Even at lower speeds I feel a big difference!

      @@gizfpv I've stuffed a tekko32 f3 metal 65a esc into a ar 600 with a 2420kv rcinpower wasp major motor, pulls 90ish amps at full throttle on 6s, need to try some APC speed props to get to the 300+ km/h club since the fastest props I've got seem to be capping me around 230-240 km/h in flat level flight. Oh, and yeah, it 100% rips itself out of my hand on launch, just have to throw the thing or risk getting bitten by one of the most powerful 5" motors on the market.

    Most of the iNav youtubers don't speak about hight five test, be for put the wing on the air!
    When testing whether the moving surfaces are in the right direction, which in my case are, when I put the steek in full right, it just moves a few millimeters up and so does it when I do it to the left. Is it normal for the scroll to moving surfaces to be so small, before auto trim and auto tune.
    Regards
    Vítor Lalanda

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Před 3 lety

      Hi, yes this is normal. In stabilized modes, servo output is proportional to throttle. On the bench you'll see minimal servo movement, but in flight there will be much more. If you want to properly test your servos, put the aircraft in manual mode first

    hey Giz, great video as always! S800 vs Caipi2 - what do you think? Can the S800 "point" against C2? In what areas in your opinion?
    ...and do you got a link to the vortex generators and maybe even the carbon stuff? is it real or just "printed"?

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Před 3 lety +1

      Well it depends what you want to. The Capi is excellent for proper long range (15-20km) but is a bit tricky to launch and is harder to store and transport. The S800 on the otherhand has a range of about 10km but is really easy to launch, store and transport, and is also much cheaper. Ultimately they are both great aircraft

      Hold a heavy-ish object in your hand. Shake it with your arm extended and again close to your body. You can feel the very difference. Your arm/wing is basically a lever acting against the body. The longer the lever the more force exerted.

    • @jotham123
      @jotham123 Před rokem

      all it does is changes moment of inertia. Doesn't affect stability other than making it more responsive to roll inputs

    The video is great but I have a question. Instead of using a single motor, can we use two motors because they will cancel out torque generated by each one? As the plane slightly tilt when the throttle is increased in the single motor. Using two motors greatly decreases the flight time or not?

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Před 2 lety +1

      Yup you can absolutely use 2 motors. People have done it before. Not only does a dual motor setup counteract torque roll, it also allows you have yaw control via differential thrust :)

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Před 3 lety

      The distance between the vtx and Rx is still enough to prevent any noticeable interference. On some of my other aircraft the vtx and Rx are even closer together but it's never caused me a issue. The fact the frequencies are so far apart helps

      The HeeWing F-01 is a wing that's designed for DJI fpv, and it just so happens I have a video showing how to build one 😋 I used analogue fpv on mine, but would be easy to switch out the analogue cam/vtx for the DJI air unit instead. The HeeWing comes with the mounts for the air unit

    Is your weight measurement accurate, or what did you do to achieve that? 360 g with the printed canopy is really lightweight. Mine has similar components (and an even smaller motor) and weighs 390 g without the additional nose weight..

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Před 3 lety

      Tbh, possibly not. I discovered last week that my scales had become faulty. I don't know how long they've been like that. Have brought some new scales now though so will re-weigh the s800 and see what it says

    • @PartiRecords
      @PartiRecords Před 3 lety

      That would be nice! I am trying to cut the weight a bit down, because the 2205 motor I am currently using seems to be a bit underpowered for that mass.. Paired with the relatively high stall speed every sharp turn is a bit scary

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Před 3 lety +1

      @@PartiRecords Just weighed it now on my new scales (that are calibrated) and turns out my S800 actually weighs 457g. So yeah, my old scales were very wrong and unfortunately I didn't notice. The thrust to weight ratio on mine seems great though, even if it is a little heavier than I first thought, it still has plenty of power 😊
