To say that I didn't learn anything here, I would be lying. I first came across an small old book called "Nanny of the Maroons" during my earlier years in the 1960's at Norman Gardens All Age In Kingston. I read that book throughout and became attached to our history in Jamaica. The book dealt with what happened from Portland in the East to Accompong St.Elizabeth in the West. The buck stops when I passed that book onto my siblings because to date no one is able to explained what happened to it. Nevertheless the details of what happened in Nanny Town and the retreat to establish Moore Town still echos those events in mind. There was also the book "History of Jamaica" but that little book: Nanny Of The Maroons depicting the skirmishes of Nanny with the British Red Coats and the grouping up when her brothers and her reluctance to give into some of their conditions upon the Treaty, was forcibly what attracted me to the spirit of Nanny even though having no experience in that village settings as I did with areas of other rural villages in St.Ann where my parents are from.
Also, I like in the video when Kromanti Experience used the word "demonize" to adhere to the fight against the language and cultural experiences of the Maroon People. The reason is that many words in the Jamaican language have been replaced with so called British Imperialist flavours that omitted many of the original African words. My hope is that throughout the Maroon Settlements that remains untouched and are still used among the elders with the young. My surprise was hearing my Mother who is now in her eighties dropped a word on me such as "fufu" to mean crushed ground tubers such as yams, coco and others while watching a documentary from Ghana. Actually one of the village people there say the word and she was able to identify with it. Then I asked her why she didn't pass on such rich words to us. And her answers were people particularly those teaching English at Schools in her time would put down or classified using such words as speaking "Bad." In return I was very upset and offended on the strategies used by the Colonialist and their emissaries to ridicule what is ours. I responded to my Mother by encouraging her not to be embarrassed using any of our indigenous words. And to do so as much as she can in preference to English when in dialog and without shame.

Queen Nanny have a special place inna I heart💯. I don’t know how many of us Jamaicans really stop and think of the important part this queen played in our history and what we achieved. She was the epitome of a warrior queen. Brought fear and fyah to the oppressors. One a the great woman to eva walk this earth. Love u queen. Rest well with the rest a the ancestors 👑❤️🖤💚
