How a Sovereign Group in Jamaica Is Fighting a US Mining Company
Vložit

- Jamaica was once the world’s leading exporter of bauxite, which is the ore from which aluminum is made, but decades of mining have taken a toll on the land and the people. With reserves depleted, the government is now pushing to move mining operations into the most ecologically sensitive part of the island known as Cockpit Country. The people of Cockpit Country fought off the British in the 1700s and now they're conjuring the warrior spirit of their ancestors to take that fight to the mining companies.

American imperialism and political interference is part of the reason for mass migration. Democratic Reforms in many of these countries would hurt the cheap manufacturing of goods and resource extraction, so the US makes sure to install corrupt fascist puppets and these places remain dysfunctional. This is all to keep the prices of goods and commodities low for white capitalist countries. However, it seems that globalization could be undoing itself because of the Coronavirus pandemic, climate change, and resurgent nationalism in some developed countries.

@@jdblake3224 never. Up until the pandemic started the federal government and oil companies were making plans to drill off the coast of South Carolina (where I live). People were rightfully pissed. Drilling off the coast would kill costal tourism, which is a massive part of the South Carolina economy. It would taint the sea food in the area, killing two more industries. More jobs would be lost than gained, and the government and oil companies know it. But do they care? No. The only thing that stopped that project was the pandemic and the economic slow down that came with it.

But looking at it sabotaging their equipment is an idea but these people are so wealthy that it wouldn't even budge them also their grounds are heavily secured so it's not easy to get in, we need some inside men to do the damages their. The crazy part the Prime Minister said about 2years ago that he will not mine the cockpit and put a stop to it but I knew he was lying he actually renewed their license and gave them more land once he got more comfortable in his position it's very obvious that he's greedy and doesn't care about the people. Any sane "independent" government would question why they aren't mining their own natural resources.
It's stuff like this that make it difficult to cover the fact that Jamaica is ruled by England (and being strangled by America).
Jamaica is still under colonial rule, yet most natives think it's independent. As far as Jamaican/England law is concerned, all Jamaican minerals and natural resources are owned by the Crown. I really can't perceive a favorably turn in the mining situation until Jamaica truly gains it's sovereignty.

This hurts my heart I love Jamaica and the people I hope that something change these people can’t live like this
Thanks blessings to you from a Jamaican 🇯🇲🌹😌
As Ghanaian 🇬🇭🇬🇭watching Acempong village gives me hope of my people........
Y’all better watch them Chinese,,,,,.
Mining is bad out there too hu?
@@williammckinney567 we fighting them too
Jamaicans are of Akan and Igbo descent. Accompong was a maroon village created by the indigenous Taino and Akan people that fought against European colonizers. More Jamaicans need to know this and reconnect with their roots.
@@S_C_ Akan people don’t play that at all kicked the British many times in Ghana too
Their prime minister says it pains him that he's accused of not caring about the environment but obviously he doesn't because if he did he'd protect the best interests of the people living in that area, which is unanimously to keep mining out of the region. A government that has failed to protect it's people is a failed government. I hope they keep up the fight and stand up to this corruption and win.
All these politicians do is talk they don’t care about anyone but themselves
Why do we have politicians in the first place?
We need leaders, true responsible leaders that take accountability voted by and for the people.
Locco Leaders of Jamaica are disincentivized or dead or abroad.
He's the devil, he does not care about us at all, he's sold his soul.
@@championkingmuziq1295 As most politicians have. It's quite sad that the majority of politicians anywhere are more focused on money, their image, and whatever agenda they're pushing than their own people. That's certainly the case in America too
Big respect to the creators of this video, for bringing more light on those appalling bauxite mining practices.

God bless and protect Jamaica and its people. The beautiful land belongs to Jamaican people...dont allow blood thirsty corporations destroy it
The fight against white supremacy is real.
I've got dust inside my house and on my outside window sills...is that from the bauxite mines too? I live in Virginia.

Nah man we have to be taken serious they be dutty up our country we ain't clowns we be activists 🤷🏿♂️ respect us
One of the worlds best accents no doubt

As a Jamaican living abroad, this was very informative as well as heartbreaking. Jamaica will always be my home, but as for the actual residents I feel hurt for them. They are me, they're my family, and their well-being is being jeopardized for financial gains and it's infuriating.
preach girl same here !!
Similar thing happened to us here in Suriname. After Alcoa left, a lot of people lost jobs. It looks like a red desert.
This is to built the economy to stop the high level of crime and violence. As a run away Jamaican, are you going to send the government money?
@@kirkpeters8069 😂😂😂 it's the runaway Jamaican for me. That was clever Kirk, come up with that one on your own? Not sure how water and air pollution, forestry and farmland destruction, and displaced citizenry are things that help build an economy, but I'll take your word for it, patriot. I do give the government money. Everytime I send money to my family and friends still living in Jamaica, and travel to Jamaica and from Jamaica, book hotels or rent apartments and cars and buy groceries. Are you boosting the country's tourism, patriot?

I’m from central Jamaica and its truly a heartbreaking experience. The beauty of my community has vanished and locals are being exploited for little to nothing.
This is sad, I stand in support of my brothers and sisters in Jamaica, may the ancestors guide them and protect their land.

Amen
I am vincentian national, my grandmother was a Maroon and grandfather was Garifuna. Please stand up for your lands
I had the experience of traveling by the bauxite shipping port in Jamaica a number of times decades ago. Everything was covered by red dust. Horrible poverty in the local towns. Again major companies pay off the government leaders to sign contracts to make themselves rich and destroy the land.
Like our ancestor Marley says "don't give up the fight"

@Jayo Delaware Do you have a problem with these people fighting for their rights, whether the words are coming from Bob, myself or anyone else. Do you have an alternative solution for our people Jayo other than bashing Bob Marley?

Don’t play with us” 💯💯💯
I want this energy across the diaspora 🙏🏾 ❤️
Where are the lawyers to bring the law suits against these companies where are the socalled humanitarian and environmentalist lawyers that should be fighting for human rights for the people how is it that the waste product with the acid is just poured out on the land in the communities and these company owners aren't sued and arrested , polluting the environment , polluting peoples food, causing health issues like cancer and heart desease what is the Jamaican government doing to address this situation?
