THIS is the BEST Rated Chinese Restaurant in NYC?!

- We went to the BEST rated Chinese restaurant in NYC (well, best rated in Brooklyn at least), with a 4.5 star review on Yelp, and found one of the most unique Chinese restaurants we’ve ever been to. Holed up in a small corner of Bushwick, it barely looks like a restaurant on the outside, but on the inside they’ve got some truly unbeatable American Chinese food. Check it out!!!

I love how his name is Xiaoma and his friend's John.
And the restaurant lady is Sue lol
John doesn't need a fancy shmancy name because he doesn't have a youtube channel I guess
@@BabyNoah22 No. What he's saying is that the white guy has a Chinese name while the Chinese guy has an English/Western name. So it feels like a reversal of names, lol.
Torag55 ahhhhh. Gotcha
valeyard he said on a Facebook post that ‘xiaoma’ is his Chinese name, which I assume it is his name (Arieh) translated into chinese
I'm a long time customer. The restaurant is called Lucky House Kitchen but the locals call it Sue's. It is in Bed-Stuy off the A/C train line and Utica station. Speak loud enough for Sue to hear you. Her food is the best Chinese in NYC.
Edit: Thanks for all the likes. Truthfully I lived about 200 feet from her and spent 2 years going to bad restaurants close to a mile away because of the appearance. A snowstorm made me desperate and it was like hitting the lottery, lol. I've moved but only a few blocks so I'm still a regular. Be sure to tell her that you heard about her food. She's rough but sweet. Basically, she's Brooklyn.
***Also the B26 bus from downtown Brooklyn and the B15(coming from JFK) go straight to her as well.***
kev2020 wish I knew this earlier. I was in NYC for holiday last June. If I knew this I would have gone to her restaurant
Deep down, she really seems like the most sweet and sincere lady ever. If I ever come from Arizona to New York, I Would go to this place immediately. Bless her and hopefully her career thrives!
Thank you!
@david white 😂
I'm quite jealous that you have a place like this next to you. Many people see hole in the wall places and would never consider going inside. Some of the best food I've ever had was from places like this.
Suuuuuu, I miss her 😭 She’s the sweetest lady ever. I’ve been eating there since I was in elementary school because I lived in the neighborhood until this month. Shes always been so dope
i love that you got to see this video. very cool

I bust out laughing when John said that there were only 7 people for the past two years eating there and giving them a 4.5 rating LOL
I know, I love his cynicism
hood spot with mumbo sauce and school desk with the plexiglass window almost as New York as a Pizza slice
@@cssSUL I'm aware thanks
Jonah Falcon I’m from ca
What the fuck is mumbo sauce bro
Crespo I’m just as confused
I live in nyc. I've never seen school desks in a restaurant lol.
@@Chocolatepain Do you avoid low income area's? nyc is a big place?
4:05 lmao. It's usually the small "hole in the wall" places that end up being real good. Got a Mexican place by me that looks like a fuckin bathroom. Best Mexican food I've ever had in my life.
ntr29vultus Do you happen to be in the NYC area? Cause I’m gonna need the name of that Mexican spot if so 😂
Yeah, truth. I’ve always had the best Mexican food at the scariest looking places.
@@robinday2137 LMAO that's so true. The shittiest looking buildings always serve the best street tacos
Yeah, it's places in like this video that people that love food search long and hard for.
There's plenty of spots like these in Houston. If you ever visit, make sure you go to one!
"Black people like the wings and fries" I mean being black shes definitely not wrong.
She honestly knows her customers and their needs and tends to them with care just like a mother would
i cant believe my childhood Chinese place turns out to be the best one in brooklyn
Wow
@@Fun-rf9vs much wow!!! lots of ohhhhh!!! too much NANIIIII
When I saw the restaurant I knew it was gonna be good. Hole in the wall with a long line, that's always a good sign or food being amazing
Or a gloryhole.
@@ephasm what is wrong with the internet lol
@@ephasm LOL
The crappier the place looks and the longer the line is, the better the food will be. Sometimes a hole in the wall place is just a hole in the wall and other times it's a gold mine. Here in Albuquerque some of the best New Mexican food comes from very rough looking little mom and pop restaurants that look more like storage shacks than restaurants.
This is true of alot of restaurants in nyc some very good places that are super lowkey
Them: this place doesn’t look to good
Every foodie ever: that place looks like it’s going to be fire
I laughed so hard when John said it was the same 7 people giving all the reviews. I'm happy that it ended up being a pleasant surprise for him. But now I want spicy lo mien sooo bad and it's 3am in a small town no place open.
Yo those high school desks in the restaurant threw me off
did u jump on them?
Welcome to NY 😂
Weird random seating in small quantity in a corner store Chinese takeout restaurants is a New York Staple!
Most people probably order out tho.
it looked weird till they starting eating, then it made sense. Like eating on a plane
“White people like the general Tsos” sounds accurate lol that killed me
True but first time I tried it was when an asian friend ordered it. :) Now I love it.
Lol I remember walking in a spot and the asian lady screamed out “chicken wing!” “Chicken wing!” I’m like wtf no I like sesame chicken. Lol but I see why now..
General Tsos is my favourite lmao☠️ stereotypes be true
Not me. Like sweet & sour chicken.
I like general tso's when I make it at home. In restaurants it's always too sweet, and extremely mild.
"Don't judge the book by its cover"
LITERALLY.
The second they walked in I knew it was gonna be fire. I'm from San Diego and if a taco shop is set up like that, it's the best mexican food in the area. The fancier a place is, the more disappointing it ism
Not gonna lie I have eaten better burgers and fried chicken that's worth $.80 and it's buy one take one in a small hole in the wall burger place compared to a mountaintop resort that overlooked 2 different cities and the harbor (the eggs were tasteless and the fried chicken tasted like those breading mixes sold in stores)
I've been to plenty of fancier places that are good
There's a time and place for everything
@@grahamsmith6210 Yeah seriously, because I have definitely eaten at places that look like the video that were not very good at all.
"set up like that" are you saying a filthy place does not correspond to the level and quality of the food? My mom was sick and wanted their chicken wings and ribs and the 2 times I went in there I just felt like I needed a shower, a shot and a food tester. Disgusting is just disgusting no matter how you dress it up.
What is your favorite place in San Diego?
I watched the one before when you tried the worst place and thought that it would be nice to invite the guy you met to the best place.
If you're talking about the Uber driver, that would've been nice. Would've earned Su a new customer probably. Uber driver would then be able to make a recommendation and since he was having a slow day... made him feel better too. But that's just an observation and not a recommendation.
Not the uber driver. The fan who went with them to the worst American Chinese restaurant
@@Man0War_Loki so you mean the uber driver who took them there & ate at the worst chinese with them?
@@RonnieG no
@@RonnieG what are you talking about 😂

I've learned "it's ketchup" means they dont want to say what's in the sauce.
Mambo is ketchup. With a bunch of other stuff added to it lol.
But you are right. "Catsup" used to be a generic term for a condiment like sauce in English. Before the tomato took over as the defining ingredient, Catsup was like a mishmash of whatever was handy or whatever the family recipe was, usually with mushrooms as a base ingredient.
@yesca jasta Are you speaking in drunk? I also speak thish languish.

Your friend John is so funny! His hospital, Train ticket booth analogy is on point, 😆 would love to see him in more videos!
John's comments are hilarious. You should have also got the same bloke from last time.

I’m 50 years old and the Chinese restaurant I grew eating at still serves the same food from the same storefront. I also was lucky enough to cook at a Chinese restaurant thru my college years and learned so much. Great videos... love them.
4:21 im sorry when he panned the camera around that blacl girls face hady dying 😂
Bro that place is the definition of “hole in the wall” amazing
I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years. Over 30 years and Sue has been serving the community with her delicious food.
You should've brought that stranger you met in the worst chinese place video for a redemption video!!!
I love it!!!! How your friend is shoveling the lo mein from your plate to his after the hot sauce was added ! 😂😂👍. You guys are great. Love the videos
My cousin lives two blocks from here and everytime I go visit her I try to stop in on my way home. I live in NJ and it's the best Chinese takeout spot I've been to in NJ/NYC. It's even better then the Chinese restaurants in Queens. I usually get the Szechuan shrimp and the flavor is light years better then the average szechuan shrimp at any other takeout spot.
Yeah, the hole in the wall takeouts are always THE BEST!!!! John still cracks me up, looks like the place where you buy train 🚂 tickets 🎫 .
Love your videos! Keep them coming. I enjoy the reactions on their faces when they realize you speak their language perfectly!
One of my favorite episodes so far ! Nicely done. You two are so enjoyable to watch.
Mumbo sauce (sometimes called mambo) is DC all the way! First time I tried it was at a Chinese owned bodega that had fried chicken near Howard U!
I came down here to say the same thing! I was so surprised to see mumbo sauce in new york!
Your mastery of the language makes this so enjoyable. Subscribed!
I've seen this place reviewed for the mumbo sauce and it had an amazing review. I was laughing when you guys arrived in the ghetto restaurant because I recognized it but I know they have amazing food. Im glad you enjoyed it as authentic Chinese food lovers. Never judge a book by its cover.
"Giving me hospital vibes " hahahahahaha 😂😂😂

I'm so glad that he took John to this restaurant to make up for the last gross one. I love this channel.
I just really appreciate your pal's skepticism! great job guys ...brave!
lol, love the excitement from Arieh that John had to wipe it off at 0:58 to keep it together. jk, love the vlog and excited to find this new restaurant keep missing in nyc! Thanks!
So enjoyable to watch. Makes me wanna go there
That smoky flavor on the lo mein is what gives it its character. You need a properly seasoned wok, and a wok burner that puts out at least 50,000 BTU. Some restaurants have ones that go up to 200,000 or so. The correct term for that flavor is Wok Hei. Great to see that you mentioned it!
I'm pretty drunk right now living it up in the quarantine, but fuck man, good on Su. I hope her and everyone that works there is doing well during these hard times. I worked as a line cook and I have such an appreciation for people that pour their heart and soul into their work. It's clear she is part of her community and her community loves her. Anyway, god damn she is awesome.
You know you are at a high-end restaurant when you have to order through a plexiglass window. 😉
Tom M bulletproof good
Here in the year 2020, your comment has become true.
I wonder how much her business has increased since your review. A little push then word of mouth can go viral!
Places that look like that always have the best food, especially if theyve been in business for a while. It means that they are an exceptional establishment to stay open despite such appearances. I'm glad John enjoyed it!
The more run down a place is that is still getting plenty of business the better it tends to be. As soon as you guys rolled up I immediately could tell it was going to be yummy!
This woman deserves a better place that looks like a REAL RESTAURANT!. That place looks so strange but she has one of the best chinese food. Don't judge the book by its cover! Amazing!
“This place looks like it sells train tickets”
The "essence of wok" flavor is what dreams are made of. That's that one flavor you can't put your finger on, so you can only describe it as delicious. I know of a few dishes at my favorite chinese sports that seem to harness the essence amazingly. Cabbage dishes are often amazing because of the wok seasoning.
Xiaoma...another great video!! I'm glad you guys loved the food from this Chinese restaurant! I've only started watching your videos since 2 weeks ago, and I'm hooked!! I love Chinese food! I can't speak a word of the language, but I love Chinese cuisine!
I don’t mind bad decor. It’s the cleanliness of the counters, walls and floors that I watch. I hope they disinfect the plexiglas often. You’re making me hungry. 🥰☕️🍩🎄🎁⛄️
When I lived in Sacramento, the best Vietnamese food in the city was a small 50-person eatery with RE-USED paint on the outside of the building.
The best places to eat in the world, sometimes, are those tiny mom and pop/family run shops. I would be HONORED to eat at Sue's one day.
I live in Sac! What's the name?
Ah John's reaction to this throughout is hilarious!!! Great vid
Dude, love these vids and honestly dont know how I stumbled across them. Installed duolingo as a start to learn some extremely basic mandarin, who knows where this will lead, but your vids are great, very inspiring
you should ahve tracked the subway guy down so you can pay him back for the last experience.!!! haha
This restaurant is literally the definition of “Don’t judge a book by its cover” cause the restaurant looks bad and boring but then u eat and love it

You were eating on school desks Haha

Anthony, you're missing a lot of things in life little kid. Those restaurants that actually don't look good had the best tasting dishes coz they do not focus on the aesthetics of the physical store rather put their effort to make their food delicious!

Class-y those desks, this is gonna school some folks on good places to eat. ALWAYS TOGO TO THE DOOR WITH THE LONGEST LINE OF LOCALS! The food will teach you what good is.
That all looks so amazing and a review coming from a Chinese man and a white Chinese man makes it that more authentic.
You need to do more videos of these super hidden gems! I wonder how many people pass by and have no idea how amazing it is.

I enjoy watching your reviews on world food even if it’s Americanized :) great video.
Reminds me of when I was in Rome with my boyfriend and we used yelp or some other app to find the best pizza in our area and the place looked just like this but with only wiggly table. Every one used it for take out but with sat there at their only table and enjoyed the best pizza I ever tasted! So amazing, better than any other restaurant we went to.
That’s cool that Mumbo has made its self up to NY from DC.
i'm guessing cherry sauce, soy sauce, honey and maybe garlic. or perhaps some fish or oyster sauce.
Years ago took my family to a small town and had lunch in a typical american style chinese food place. The decor of the restaurant looked like it had not changed since the 1970's and was completely empty of customers. We ordered 4 or 5 dishes and as we ate we noticed that delivery people kept coming in and leaving all different people non stop, the food was awesome and we have gone back there a few times it's always good. I figured out the reason why it was busy with deliveries also it was close to a University and their take out was always busy.
I had a blast watching you guys eat......I got a good laugh....Thank you!
Your friend would make a great comedian. So sarcastic and quick with his wit. Can’t understand a word but, he would have me on floor laughing.

It's immigrants that started with little money, just great food and took any shopfront they could afford.
There is no need to update the decor when your food is that good people just don't care.

Another reason to never judge a book by its cover. We have several small mom and pop restaurants here in Louisiana that are amazing.
