I haven't been back to Clinton Hill in 15 years but it was definitely one of the best Chinese take out in Brooklyn. Just the fact that each order of hot/sour soup is made fresh from scratch and not premade in a big pot they scoop out of, tells what they are about and you can taste the difference.

I was eating there since the '80s. Lived around the corner between Park and Flushing. At one point, they had all 3 adjoining storefronts (for a large sit-down area). If you go there, try the Salted Baked Shrimp w/ General Tso sauce on the side for dipping. Didn't have time to do both when I was there a couple of weeks ago, so Farmer in the Deli won that trip. And you're right, they used to have a dine-in area right next door to the main spot.

That is correct. This is one block from the house I grew up in on Willoughby Avenue. This is Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, where Biggie grew up, where the jazz legend Wynton Marsalis and Gang Starr lived (DJ Premier and Guru), Lawrence Fishburne, among others. Kum Kau has been official since I was going there back in 1981 (over 40 years)...who knew they would last this long!!

Every city or town has a bomb ass Chinese carry out. I had one in my neighborhood but the family retired and their kids being Americanized didn’t want to carry on the legacy so they took over and changed it to more a fusion style and it failed. They went out business, the kids claim they wanted to venture to other things but the truth from the parents was said those kids didn’t want to continue their parents legacy. I just found a new spot for me, a little bit of a drive but when I tried their fried rice I knew it was special place. I drove past that newer location one late night around 1am and it was open and their was a nice line waiting to pick up. I knew I found a gem and it’s not even in the hood, it’s an upscale neighborhood. I’m so happy now, their mumbo sauce is the best I’ve ever had!😎😬

They used to have a steamed sea bass that took about 30 minutes to prepare. They wouldn’t make it until you paid or sat down in the dine in area they used to have. My pops loved it so we had so many dinners here. All those grade school birthdays he used every excuse 😂. After the pandemic I was very dissatisfied but JL you know good food I love your content and how you’re ready to ride out for it. I got to give them another shot on the strength of you brother!!
