This is a "poor man's magnetostrictive transducer" we used 35 years ago, when ferrite rods were available. The magnetic bias ideally must be tuned to get the most of striction, and the ferrite may be hanged/glued in the center where the motion is zero. Then tune it to the resonant frequency... Note that too much energy will result in overheating and cracking the rod. And of course, nickel laminate (if available) will work better.

I hadn't thought of using a ferrite rod that way. I made a speaker out of one of those cans that dry asian noodles come in. After a bit I noticed a warm feeling and found a puddle of plastic in my lap where the lid had melted. (I was using the lid to retain the coil against the steel bottom of the can. Lucky for me no burns and the speaker actually worked pretty well if I didn't leave it on for long.

To increase the vibration, you need to: 1. put a driver for the transistor gate (special microcircuits) on the gates of the transistors. 2. Reduce the number of coil turns. 3. Try to install the ferrite not so hard in the coil frame

      Hi Artem.
I will manage to get a mosfet gate driver circuit soon.
I will try to reduce the number of coil too ..
Can I use higher voltage to increase the vibration? I was planning to increase the coil voltage and use a higher voltage rating MOSFET.

    • @andrianwijayono6658
      @andrianwijayono6658 Před rokem +2

Nope.. don't increase the voltage to much. The ferrite instantly crack on supply voltage around 20 volt.
Increasing voltage is a bad idea
Already tried the idea this morning..

The output of the generator must be powerful enough to charge-discharge the gate of the transistor. If it doesn't work well with the irl3103 transistor, try another logic-level transistor, especially the one with the smallest gate capacitance.Perhaps such a transistor will work well with 5 volts of signal

    Hi again.
It's me again 🙂 hopefully you will reply me again this time 🙂
I managed to buy a signal generator FY3200 which could give amplitude in 10.50 volt. I tried to replicate your experiment, with same parameters such as:
    1. Using same transistor (irl3103)
    2. Using same ferrite length (8 cm) and diameter (8 mm)
    3. Using exactly same wiring arrangement
    4. Using same wire diameter (8mm) to make coil (90 turn) on the ferrite
    5. Using frequency around 35 kHz and amplitude 10.50 volt to drive transistor
    6. And using 16 volt to the coil
After much trials, I can't see any vibration on my ferrite. I also tried to changing the frequency values, and the height of ferrite to the magnet, but nothing is happen 😔 can you help me solve this? Thanks,

Btw.. how you can find the best match frequency value for the device...
I was so tired after trying to tune the frequency by rotating the signal generator knob
Do you have any special or specific method to do it?
Can I use sweep frequency feature on the signal generator to figure out the best match value?
      Oh
      ..
      One more..
My MOSFET is instantly fried on values around 10KhZ.. I heard hissing sound, and then the mosfet is extremely hot (already used aluminium heatsink). The current rise to about 1.5 ampere.
After that, I realize that my MOSFET already died 😂

@@alexa.davronov1537 The ferrite were vibrating now 🙂
      the problem is:
      1. The coil winding direction are very important. the ferrite start to vibrating when I swap the direction of current. if the direction are wrong, nothing happens.
      2. To find the correct frequency, you can use sweep mode on your signal generator. Because resonance frequency is really f**cking specific value. my ferrite is vibrating only on about 31700 Hz - 31800 Hz. I also found that the frequency only influenced by the dimensions of ferrite.
      3. the single irl3103 mosfet is really hot. I managed to use set of 2 power MOSFET 70n06. After using multiple MOSFET, the overheating problem SOLVED 🙂. Be aware to use 47 ohm resistor on each gate of the mosfet if you using multiple MOSFET.
But the vibration is not strong enough for me.. is anything I could do to improve the vibration..

@@Hudsonkem Ofcourse we gonna have to use wave generator.
wave generator will control the gate of the mosfet.
wave generator -> mosfet -> amplified signal
wave generator doesnt generate enough power to kick the coil. The generator will control the gate of the mosfet, hence the power will be amplified by the mosfet. The mosfet would switching on and off according to the signal from the wave generator, hence you can get a larger power capacity.
