    Somehow, and I am still really not sure how this happened, Mr Jake Bill from the Wull's Wheels CZcams channel ( / @fuelpower ) and I ended up at Oakley Hall near Basingstoke on 23rd September 2021 for the SMMT Drive Day South, where we got to drive and film six different brand new cars from six different manufacturers, having just half an hour with each of them to film a review. Naturally, things took a bit of a shambolic turn, as they usually do on this channel...
    First of all, we were privileged to drive a 2021 Dacia Sandero Stepway 1.0 TCe 90 Prestige, the top of the range version of the Dacia Sandero without LPG. Be prepared for smooth driving dynamics, an interesting paint colour, excellent ride quality, trying not to complain about hard plastics and generally little of any consequence at all. Nothing untoward then!

      Yes, I sort of just came up with the new format, it seems to work OK, though! Mr Bill's lack of beard is certainly something more appropriate for such an event in my opinion, although he and his lady friend may have other opinions.

    I've got the previous version 2017 Ambiance and I'm immensely happy with it. Cheap to run, comfortable on long journeys, spacious and surprisingly rapid performance for a three pot turbo. It didn't cost stupid money and by my estimation I could probably sell it now 12 months on with 16k on the clock for what I originally paid for it! Do the maths.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, Dacia don't tend to discount very much in my experience, as the cars are generally unopposed in value amongst new models anyway. I drove a Logan MCV in 2017, and it really wasn't that bad at all! You are right about the current secondhand values, you may well get most of your money back if you were to sell it again now.

    What have things come to when a full size spare wheel being included with a new car is something to get excited about? Dacias look good, they're really inexpensive and they have a proper spare in the boot. There's no wonder I see more and more of them on the road. I do see more Dusters and Logans than Sanderos though.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety

      Yes, the Duster is probably more popular due to the current trend for SUVs. The Logan MCV looks like it has been discontinued for our market, from what I understand? The styling is much, much better than before, so is the quality and refinement, and we do like the full size spare, sir...

    Interesting vehicle!
    I also admit it is at a very good price point for the level of equipment it has.
    Also surprising is the phone mount AND USB port right next to the infotainment screen! Extremely convenient!
    My only complaint, which is minor, is the add-on infotainment screen that looks like an afterthought, otherwise I like this very much!
    Would this be the same size as the Vauxhall Mokka? I believe that had a 3 cylinder turbo.
    The headlamps remind me of current Volvo range of DRL headlamps.
    Excellent review Joseph !

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, a lot of cars have these tablet style infotainment systems on the dashboards now. I think the basic Sandero (not the Stepway) lacks the big colour central screen of this top of the range Stepway. The mount and USB port next to the screen is brilliant, more car should be like this. The Mokka is a bit bigger than this and is sold with the three cylinder turbo also used in many Peugeot and Citroen models.

    Could this Sandero "Step Its Way" into the place of your lovely Ssangyong Tivoli? A Renault derived vehicle would certainly be a departure from the MG3, Seat Toledo, Ssangyong Tivoli, line thus far.
    The earlier Sandero Stepway Tce was a good car and I know two very happy owners. One coming from a 2011 Ford Focus and one from a 2009 Vauxhall meriva. Two good cars.

      @markonmotoring Před 2 lety

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting True that the quality may have improved but the same was said of Skoda and they are no longer cheep. Sane with the Korean brands. The quality needs to be up there to compete at a higher price. The magic of the Facia was tried and tested mix or current and last gen Renault/Nissan componentry at a bargain price. Ok so in the UK nobody bought the entry level.sub £6k car which didn't even have a radio. The mid spec Sandero was a bargain though and later was available with AC and the TCE engine for around £8k from memory (I think 7k with the 1.2). These were so cheep for a new car and stepway versions were probably another £1k on top but still incredibly good value. I hope the new car has t lost too much of that budget conscious motorist appeal.

      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +1

      @@markonmotoring , the base model Sandero is still only around £9,000 for the Essential model, I believe. I think that still makes it Britain's cheapest car, and it is still fairly basic. Granted the Xcellence is a very well equipped car but there's no getting away from it being 3 or 4 years old and those previous owners on the logbook!
