Always liked watching Hal….but his record against TW? Well, he’s 1-81 ! He shined at TPC that day and has a story for a lifetime. Beating him in early rounds a few times helped his maturity, but we all know the rest of the story. Players should have given TW a thank you for playing the European Tour so often and giving them a break. ( he won about 30 events across pond and I believe only Seve has more in history )
If I could define wisdom on my own, I would say it could be defined as having the ability to find a solution in virtually every possible scenario in life. Of course, I am still young so you can take that definition with a grain of salt if you wish 👍.
Patience is a virtue of the wise , you don’t always have to figure out the problem or even find the solution , sometimes you just need to wait for it to pass .
The simple fact of the matter is he, Hal Sutton, believed he could beat Tiger at TPC because he conditioned his mind to think that way based upon past results. That is EXACTLY what Earl Woods taught Tiger. The reason Tiger was so great was that his mind was conditioned to believe he could, and would, beat anybody. Very few people have that strength of mind, and Hal had it that day in 1999 at the TPC.
1 stroke penalty on you, sir. "Too" is used when one means also, or when it's being used as an adverb. You're welcome. These off-course strokes can be expensive.

@@jamesfitzgerald6636 yea he was. He was gonna be the next Nicklaus when he came in the scene. Great player, bad captain but he took down Tiger on a huge stage
Hal was beaten like a rented mule more than once by Tiger. Nobody in the game has as many epic shots and putts when absolutely needed to finish off tournaments than TW. Before the round, during and after…Tiger had a good 10+ years of just owning the tour.
Exactly…Buster Douglas was not an all around successful boxer but on one night he believed he could succeed and he beat Tyson. It’s a good lesson. Tiger believed in himself. Hal showed he could be beaten by not caving psychologically…Tiger was the best in his era at keeping that psychological edge. Jack was the best in his era at doing the same thing. Most players were beat before they ever faced Jack, but Lee Trevino didn’t care about that…Trevino was better than Sutton, but none of that matters. It’s just a lesson about mindset.
In all the years since Jack was past his prime I have hardly ever heard that Jack had a mental edge over the competition. He was a great golfer and had a few peers that were great in his era too. Tiger looked and acted like a d*ck on the course. Cuz he hated you. You were trying to take something he wanted. And that was a W every time he played. Look at his interview with Curtis Strange. I wanna win. 2nd sucks. “You’ll learn.” Never have seen ANY interviews, stories, anecdotes about Jack being anything like that. And that’s fine. Jack was a nice guy, great golfer, one of the very best. But Tiger…think his dad put a chip on his shoulder and Tiger came off as pompous and standoffish…but THAT is what made him great. Everyone k ew he wanted to win but his game, attitude, epic shots called up on demand…those guys knew they were beat not Jack’s competition. My $.02
Tiger & Jack are the best ever no doubt about it. But give Hal is due.How many other golfers beat Tiger on Sunday Red in a Major or at The Players Championship when paired in the last group?
Is that the point of his story? Obviously Tiger beat most that he played face-to-face with... And for those that beat Tiger they did so believing they could. Same goes for those that beat Tyson, Ali,... name the guy of whose jock you'd like to sniff.
PGA player of the year Hal Sutton. He beat Jack Nicklaus by a stroke to win a major. He won the players championship twice, one of those times the guy who came in second was named Tiger Woods.
Not many players beat Tiger on a Sunday playing in the same group , especially at a signature event . Hal was definitely clutch but Tiger was on another planet lol
