  • Phil Mickelson slammed Tom Watson's leadership of the USA after they lost for the eighth time in 10 Ryder Cups at Gleneagles. Watson's charges were outplayed 7-1 in the foursomes across two sessions and questions have been raised about the US captain when compared to his counterpart Paul McGinley.

In a new book about Phil, the author says that he wrote an article right the night of this incident claiming that’s what it was and apparently got a text message from Phil saying “it’s like you can read my mind”. So I think that’s exactly what happened.

Think we need no less than three captains,(coach’s), headed by Jack Nicklaus (Think Tank).
The Europeans far outperform the US guys in the area of what you call a TEAM!
The last three years I’ve seen a bunch of individuals trying to participate on a team with big EGO’s (not waffles). Having lived in Europe, the Europeans are in general more friendly (synergistic) than Americans. You don’t see anything like a Koepka calling his fellow brethren out publicly.
WORDS are so powerful and can inspire people or make people feel more apart rather than more together. I’m shocked, that no veteran PGA pro’s have had the b@lls to make a comment to shut Koepka down. PGA history is about honor, integrity, and family, keeping the heritage of the PGA in check which is more important than drawing attention to build images or brands individually.

Phil got slammed pretty hard by the media, especially Brandel Chamblee, but since then things have changed and the Americans are playing much better and seemingly getting along with each other as well as the Europeans and the rest of the world. What he said might have been a jab at Tom Watson, but it's the players that get the loss and have to answer for the poor play when they're paird with someone that maybe isn't one of their best friends. I know when I pay four ball tournaments through out the year, I never ask a complete stranger to be my partner. It's always one of my best friends. I'm glad Phil said what he said and I think it's helped the Americans make the Ryder Cup more competitive. The Europeans have owned our asses the last twenty years and it's time for a change. Go USA in September!!!!!!!!

Also he said it wasn't an attack at Watson, but more the PGA and their approach the past 3 ryder cups.

Phil spoke the truth and sometimes the truth hurts. He knows what it takes to win in Ryder Cups, look at his record. He WINS way more than he loses so he can back it up. Azinger SMOKES Tom Watson in coaching and leadership. Watson is OLD school, Paul is new and knows how today's players want to be handled, PERIOD 😤. Way to go Phil. Everyone else on his team I guarantee agreed to what he said, just didn't have the BALLS to say it 🤔

    • @jamesanthony5681

'He WINS way more than he loses..."- your comment.
Really? Mickelson's career Ryder Cup record is 18-22-7, which includes a 5-6-1 record in singles. That's NOT exactly stellar - a losing record, correct? - for a Hall of Fame player with 40+ PGA tour wins.
Phil spoke the truth? The truth as he sees it, perhaps. Another golfer said this about Mickelson in regards to the Ryder Cup: "When things are going well, he's a benefit to the team; when they're not, he'll drag it down."
"Everyone else on his team I guarantee agreed to what he said, just didn't have the BALLS to say it." - your comment.
Really? How do you know that? It DOES NOT take 'BALLS' to trash your captain in public. Maybe some of the players had issues with Tom, but instead of airing them in public like High Maintenance Phil, they had the common decency to address them with Watson behind closed doors. I'm OLD SCHOOL, and that's what I would have done, i.e., in private. Certainly not in public. And being OLD SCHOOL, if I played poorly, then I would have said I lost because I didn't play well, and left it at that. Period.

How can you "guarantee" anything? The U.S. lost even worse in 2018 but Mickelson the Bully didn't attack Jim Furyk because they're buddies. Mickelson went after Watson because he was threatened by him, period. He didn't like being questioned because he's an arrogant, pompous, aging, sad excuse of a human being pretending to be Mr. Christian while behaving like a Judas.
