  • They are back for another Habs Summer Targets video. Today, they discuss the NHL Draft 2024 and the Habs' selection. The biggest question is: Habs want a scorer - Will a scorer be available? Don't forget, the NHL Draft Lottery 2024 is on May 7th, 2024.

    I am impressed with Marko's analysis of Catton's game. Indeed, most people are mainly looking at how many points Catton got this season. Are his main skills translating well from junior to the NHL ??? 👍

      Thaks for your comment but here why i disgree with you and Marko... He is going to be a solid top 6 forward in the NHL. The kid is very talented....
      The WHL’s fourth-leading scorer this season, Catton registered 54 goals and 120 points in a combined 72 regular season and playoff games on a Spokane team that lost more games than it won. He had real pedigree even before this season, too, as a No. 1 pick into the WHL who was an offensive catalyst on a bad Chiefs team in his rookie season who also led Canada Red to a silver as captain at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with 12 points in seven games and then again captained Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup with a tournament-leading eight goals and 10 points in five games.
      He’s dangerous whenever he’s on the puck and shines with his knifing, slippery game. Inside the offensive zone, the way he baits and shades, drawing players to him and then playmaking past them with a pass or a cut, is pretty impressive to watch. Catton is a heady playmaker who uses spacing to his advantage and sees the ice at an advanced level, regularly executing quick plays through coverage or delaying into a pre-planned play. He’s got multi-dimensional skill, with an ability to play both with speed on the rush (he’s a smooth, fast and nimble high-end skater) and more slowly inside the offensive zone when the pace ramps down and he has to spin away from pressure (which he does so well). He’s got great instincts offensively. He tracks back consistently and will get up and under sticks to win his fair share of battles, with more room to round out his game defensively (mostly inside his own zone). He thrives in tight spaces and on cutbacks, he can play on the perimeter or take it to the net, and he’s got a dangerous and quick release while moving. He does such a good job losing defenders with his back to them to avoid getting pinned down because of how adjustable his skating is through stops and starts and tight turns. He draws a lot of penalties with his skating. Catton went from fitting right in as a rookie who was asked to play center on a top line and handled it extremely well (he even won the majority of his draws last year) to constantly threatening as a deceptive and dangerous player offensively has positioned him as one of the top forward prospects in the draft. He was also a top penalty killer in the WHL this year. He's got some very translatable top-six elements with his skating and skill set type. I believe he’s got the chops to stick as a center despite being on the smaller side, as well, because you want him getting touches lower in the zone so that his skating can lead in transition.

    Matheson and pick 24 for pick 2, 3 , or 4 adds up to at least 2 solid additions with our #5 pick! Catton, Iginla, Lindstrom or Demidov. So our lineup would be.....Suzuki, Cole, Lindstrom. Dach, Slav, Mesar, Newhook Roy, and Catton......or Iginla or Demidov. With a D that,'s deep we should be a strong challenge for the playoffs. MSL has a lot of promise. Oh yes a 4th line of Beck, Evans and Armia who can score and shut down as well as HABS checking lines from the past...

    silayev could go as high as 3
    ive also heard that eiserman has dropped below iginla at 20 .
    i now know that all this speculation came from basu .he was the one that put a fw in everybodys heads .
    this is a d heavy draft in my opinion . to not partake in that is crazy talk. to assume risk when none is needed ? crazy talk.
    the value of a first pair d is more than a second line winger .if the habs draft a fw it would be going off the board imo .a risk for a need .just like they did with kk....
    everybody thinking the same thing . is par for the course in habsland .
    after going along with the crowd .ive decided to deviate and pave my own path .
    that path leads to parekh . isnt the point of rebuilding a team ,to get better than what you have ? he would be better than anything they have . a fw "could" be better . that involves risk i dont want them to take .

      Good comment. Eiserman should be out before 15th and yes Saliev could be between 3 to 8. All depends the team etc. There are many defensemen in the top 10. Can Habs have a possibility to select Lindstrom over a solid defensemen like Parekh? Not sure but let's figure out the Habs selection in the draft first

    I've been saying the Habs need a Goal Scoring C/W forever I think. Habs finished 25th? for Goals scored this year, same story last year so the need is pretty obvious. I'd be happy with Lindstrom or Catton or Eisserman for sure as they seem the most likely to be Goal Scorers in the NHL too. I stand by that statement. I was a little suprised that none of you even hinted at taking a RD who scored more than 100 points in the OHL. If Parekh is there at the Habs pick, would they take him? It would potentially allow the Habs to package Guhlie with another players/prospects/picks to acquire a Top 3/6 forward...It's never easy, and almost always impossible to pull off those trades for a Top 3 C/FW for sure. The thought of having a 100 point RD on the Habs blueline for the next 15 years....Hmmmmmmmm.......

    Can someone explain something to me: Last year it was a draft loaded with talented forwards and the Habs picked a 15th place d-man (Reinbacker). This year we have a draft loaded with future superstar d-men and the Habs will pick a forward. Is it only me that thinks that we have the most incompetent drafting department in all of professional sport?

    • @HockeyNationLiveShow
      @HockeyNationLiveShow  Před měsícem +4

      Luc the best forwards of the draft was gone in front the them. They select a solid defensemen and now their right defensemen is very solid. Now all of them did not play one single game in the NHL. You have to wait 5 years before you judge the outcomes of the draft. Secondly what about Slafkovsky pick? What about Hutson pick? What about Fowler pick? Just be patient they are doing a great job so far…

    • @zblip22
      @zblip22 Před měsícem

      @@HockeyNationLiveShow Allow me to disagree. Reinbacker was ranked as low as 25th. The Habs had the chance to grab: Zack Benson, Mitchkov, Dvorsky, Ryan Leonard, Brayden Yager, Oliver Moore etc etc.. It was a catastrophic choice. This year, there are amazing d-men, much better and more exciting than Reinbacker. Reinbacker is a hockey player with a high floor, but he will never generate excitement and will rarely be the factor that won the game.

    Guys, ... Habs need size, skill, I.Q., speed and intimidation ( a nuclear deterrent )( ala Svetchnikov or Brady Tkuchuck) . If Habs do not get apick at first 3 ..... then trade away your 5th or 6th or 7th pick.... Because those picks are SMALL SHRIMPS. We already have too many shrimps in the organization who will get battered in the NHL playoffs. ... If Habs get Demidov at number 2 or 3 pick then trade away Caufield in a ( 3 for one ) ala Frank Mahovalich in 1971. ...
