Hi Charlie, follow you very closely as you’re modelling is spot on and very informative. At least it proves that it doesn’t matter how long or what age you are, we all make mistakes. In making yours public on here has earned you miles more respect from me at least. Great to see you also won’t accept anything but spot on. Nice one and look forward to next update..cheers, Chris
At least it made you smile Chris.
You might have said that you're not that creative with an airbrush but you certainly are with a video camera! Best ending ever! We learn from our mistakes and move on! Happens to the best of us!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Kenneth
Love the last clip 🤣😂🤣. Love how honest you are with your videos
But at least it made you smile
It's great that you show your blunders. I think it actually increases ones confidence to just have a go and not just be frozen due to lack of experience or knowledge. We all make mistakes I suppose.
Yes, we all make mistakes, but hopefully you’ll learn from some of mine! Regards, Charlie
5:38 Actions speak louder than words. To the usual perfection in video editing, you have now added comedy timing. Applause and sympathy in equal measure.
Thanks Allan, you’re too kind.
I've just watched this based on todays video, what I like about Charlie is his honesty and as other s have said we all make mistakes
I’m so pleased that it brought a smile to your face Martyn. Regards, Charlie.
Ah, the joys of watching other people work! What a great addition to your layout. No doubt it will make operations easier.
I hope so Michael. Regards, Charlie.
Now that's what I love about your videos Charlie, you get it wart's and all! Show me someone that hasn't made a mistake, and I'll show you someone that hasn't made anything!! Better luck next time!....Cheers Les.
Thanks Les, your too kind.
I didn’t notice the seam until you pointed it out. Looks great Charlie!
Did you watch the end?
Started to paint a back scene confidently thinking of portraits painted years ago successfully. Ha. That came to nothing too. Watched too many videos on landscapes and gave up after a day. Thanks for the laugh at the end. Made me feel so much better. Excellent video on the Class 22.. The sound of metal on metal is what I love to hear; many of the old steam videos the sound is solely of escaping steam which is good but not what I listened to in nights near Plymouth North Road with the carriages being shunted to the cleaners and back ready for the next day. My souvenir of an open day at Laira was a 3 to 4 inch lump of track which I asked for and weighed a ton by the time Ihad carried it home.
Great comment Sarah, painting backscenes is a real gift, but clearly not one that I have.
your face at the end..... Charlie you made my day.
Here to please Rick, here to please.
Charlie...
You're priceless mate.
Luv ya to bits..
So pleased I found your channel..
Thanks Nick, I’m so pleased that you find the channel interesting. Regards Charlie
Thanks for showing us all where it all went wrong and 10 out of 10 for the finish. Good luck with the next one. Martin (Thailand)
At least it made you smile Martin
Welcome to the club! No surprise, I'd guess. Think of it as a character builder. Thanks for the lesson..
At least it made you smile Austin.
Hi Charlie. I always say it's not that we make mistakes it's what we do about them. I learn from them and try not to repeat them. I did smile when you said you could just live with it. And the look on your face said it all. I have used that look and said the same things only to start again at the task. Hats off for showing other people in the hobby that mistakes can happen at whatever level of expertise. This is the reason i watch your videos. Thanks. John
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it John and hopefully you’ve subscribed too.
Hi Charlie, I am also a member of the BBC (Backscene binner's club). I should have trimmed a couple of inches off the bottom of mine as it became immediately apparent as I stood back to admire my work that the distant buildings were simply too high in relation to the passing trains. I left it up for a week before it drove me mad! An expensive mistake but one that could not be allowed to remain.
Well done Alec, I’m so proud to be our club’s founder member!
That is funny! Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger. We have all had those moments. Crack on!
Yes, Ken, it’s a shocker. Regards, Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway I wait to see your next adventure.
Oh bless you Charlie
I feel your pain mate but just loved the way you’ve demonstrated this
Made me chuckle in your despair 😩
All the best Garry 😉
At least it made you smile Garry
I keep coming back to this one Charlie. Love it.
It's reassuring to know that for those of us prone to making mistakes, we are not alone.
You know the old adage, the man who never made a mistake, never made anything.
Thanks,
Bob
At least it made us both smile, eventually!
Smile Charlie , these things are made to test us !
I’m sure that I laughed just as loud as you did ..... eventually!
I love the look on your face when you scrapped those sheets, I can imagine exactly how you felt, hey ho! back to the drawing board.
Hopefully it cheered you up.
Well you made me smile its nice to know that im not the only one who doesnt get it right all the time
None of us ever do, hopefully!
I love your honesty lad, keep doing it your way, it's fun.
Thanks BB, you’re too kind.
We never stop learning and we learn from our mistakes and become better for it 😀
At least it made you smile John
LOL! 🤣 That's about what I would have done as well had I tried to air brush a backdrop. Well played Charlie. Bravo! 😉
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it a.m. Stay safe, regards, Charlie
You’re not the first and I doubt the last! We ruined the first set trying to use wallpaper paste onto plywood. Then started again this time we used 50:50 PVA to water onto sealed plywood. No bubbles or stretching. We avoided gaps by using double sided tape. Will have to live with some minor gaps and put trees etc to hide them. Love watching your builds and using some of your tips. Steve
Hi Steve, at least it made you smile
The kind of scenic modelling we can all relate too ;-)
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and that it made you smile.
Charlie, your ability to laugh at yourself is so endearing! We've all been there and all feel your pain!
Thanks Stephen
Loved the bit at the end Charlie. No dialogue needed. Brilliant!.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Dave.
Oh, Charlie! Bless you! *manhugs* Kudos for showing your humanity though. Much as I love the hobby and looking at other people's work I do feel a bit queasy when it is a bit too perfect.
Thanks mate.
@Chadwick Model Railway What I meant by that was, it's reassuring that other people make mistakes too, not that I delighted in yours, though I did let out a short, sad "Ha!" It was in panic more than amusement, honest!
Very funny and honest clip. Well done Charlie for illustrating the frustrations of railway modelling as well as the good bits.
At least it made you smile John
Hello from Kentucky, love your informative videos but that last scene,I'm sorry I couldn't help myself from laughing. I think we all had that experience at one point on our layouts, where we had to tear something up an start over. Best of luck on the do over.
At least it made you smile Jeff
Nice presentation. I think we can all relate to that last scene! But you did handle it more graciously that I would have. Best, John.
At least it made you smile.
Nothing but blue skies or clouds got in the way....the sky's the limit....lol I once stayed a weekend putting a sofa together only to find that once assembled, the main seating bit was back to front - aggghhhh!
Part of life’s rich tapestry I guess.
Hi Charlie, I've just gone back in time from your rail monitor installation video where you pasted a link.
It's a lovely bit of film one to look back on from the future and remembering all the hard work and chuckling at all that went on to get you where you are now. It's bits like this that make your channel so popular.
Well done and good luck from Spain!!
Thanks David, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, and I’m sure that it made you smile. Regards, Charlie
I really like your perfectionist approach to modelling. I’ve seen a few back-scenes where the join was glaringly obvious and I couldn’t live with it either. It’s the one part of building a layout that I’m going to really spend as much time and concentration on as it needs, however long it takes or costs me.
My point exactly JM, it must be right.
At least it made you smile.
Love the end....Says it all....If its not right it will just dig away at you..Hope the new scene goes up better and at least you have a chance of disguising the joins with trees etc....
At least it made you smile.
Hi Charlie another excellent Blog as always, and a huge 👍Thumbs up👍
Thanks Jamie.
Charlie, you made me laugh. I went through three backscenes so I know how feel. But an Oscar for the last scene is yours. Mark
But at least it made you smile.
After watching episode 96, I had to pop back and watch this one again, the last 90 seconds twice! One of the saddest but best comedy moments ever. Thanks again Charlie, and glad it's sorted now.
I'm here to please Nigel!
Great video, In appreciate you showing us all the bod as well as the good when it comes to layout building. I confess I have not yet sorted in my own mind what I will do for a backscene, but I do know what I WON'T be doing......thanks for the video!!!
At least it made you smile.
Oh dear. I genuinely didn't think it was that bad......and then I saw your face at the end! I look forward to the next video
Thanks Davie
Brilliant Charlie. As always informative, interesting and personable but now genuinely funny too. Thanks for sharing warts & all.
At least it made you smile Paul
Charlie, I have been watching Your Videos and tutorials for quite some time, but this one had me rolling on the floor with laughter. Did not know that You had that kind of sense of humor. Good show. Ray in US
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Ray at that it made you smile.
Charlie, I have gone through these problems also and you will figure it out. I got a good chuckle at the end of the video and will be looking to your next one to see your solution. --Jack
Hi Jack, a least it made you smile.
Perfect ending. And my condolences.
I bet that you laughed out loud!
Thanks for sharing and kudos for being willing to show the mistakes we all make from time to time.
At least it made you smile.
My heart just went out to you...
But it made you smile!
Nice video Charlie, especially the final!
At least it made you smile Marcelo.
Oh Charlie, that was perfect comedic timing. I feel your struggles and I hope this gets sorted quickly. Best wishes, Alex.
At least it made you smile Alex.
Loved your ending.
Thanks mate.
Hilarious!
Love your honesty and self-ironic style of dealing with your happy accidents :-D
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it
Hi Charlie. Just watched your latest video on your backscene. I’m totally with you on it being perfect for the focal point of your layout. The rest of your layout is built to a very high standard so it’s right you don’t compromise it with that line in the middle of your backscene.....🙈 I’m sure you’ll overcome it and the next video I’ll be just as good if not better than previously 😄 Thanks for sharing this one with its faults!! Cheers Stevie 😃
Thanks Stevie, at least it made you smile.
Sorry for your woes Charlie, we've all been down that road. I think your second option will be more successful anyway. For my layout I'm glad I've opted to get someone else to paint it for me. Looking forwards to seeing your next installment. Be positive.
At least it made you smile Dave
The best presented model railway channel on CZcams. I made a mistake a while back with my backscenes, I thought I'd save a few bob and went for the 9" high rather than the 15". After putting up about 10ft of it I realized it didn't look right so ended up ripping it off and buying the 15"
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Mike and well done for tearing yours down and starting again
LOL, You broke me up at the end. In fact I'm still laughing. I've seen all your other videos, so I know you'll get it straight. Thanks for the chuckle and keep up the good work!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Sam
I can so relate to that Charlie! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Rick.
The best laid plans etc Oscar performance at the end
At least it made you smile Robert.
Oh dear Charlie, so sorry but made us giggle at the end your face said it all, but better to do it now than regret it later, hope it goes better next time 👍👍
Thanks Tricky
Such a superb demonstration of applying the backscene and explaining the issue you had regarding the join and how you planned to rectify it, but then........ the cut scene had me in stitches 😂😱😂😱😂😱😂
Regards Jason
P.S. John at Art Printers (aka ID Backscenes) is a top bloke and will do his best to help any modeller.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and the replacement has arrived.
Wish me luck mate.
The face at the end says it all 🤣😂
But I bet you laughed out loud. Regards, Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway sure did
Hi Charlie just loved this video - absolutely hilarious. On a more serious note I'd have done the same myself. Keep the videos coming as in all honesty your a good modeller and the layout will reflect your excellent modelling skills once finished.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and had a laugh at the end.
These things happen Charlie - it looks great now.
Thanks Neal, regards Charlie
You can’t win them all, but hey ho, life is about teaching and mistakes can be learnt from. Love the honesty, it’s very refreshing and shows this modelling lark isn’t always easy!
And hopefully you had a laugh too.
Of course, always good to have a chuckle. I occasionally put out takes at the end of my videos, just to give people a laugh (myself included! 😁)
Just found your channel. Very nice. I've started a project and regretted it, sometimes just moments later. I prefer photo backscenes but you do have a lot of area to cover there, so airbrush or spray can may well do nicely. I went to B&Q or Homebase and got them to mix me up a blue that matched the top colour of my backscene, so at least the inside of the room matched the sky but of course there is a join. Tricky issue to solve completely. Cheers, Laurie.
Hi Laurie, I’m so pleased that you enjoy my videos.
Yes backscenes are such a challenge.
Good luck with your layout.
Regards Charlie
Brilliant funny and informative Charlie good luck with plan B
Thanks mate
Charlie - a tall factory chimney would have fixed that! Love your videos and your honesty. It will get there mate and when you have got there I'm pretty sure you will have something to be proud of.
Thanks CJ, you’re too kind.
Hi Charlie, Now i know why i keep putting off doing my back scenes, Hope you get the finish you require, keep up the good work :) Cheers
Ian
I’ll get there in the end Ian but backscenes really ought to be done first
Hi Charlie, nice one ,keep. Taking the tablets,, All the Best Brian 🤗
Thanks Brian
Haha I feel your pain Charlie but I had to have a massive giggle at that last scene. Good luck with the next idea mate!
Wish me luck tomorrow !
Great video. The last few seconds were the best . Made me laugh out loud , thanks
Looks like it’s on to plan B .
Wish me luck Jim
Good luck Charlie . Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Beautifully presented. Made us laugh! That last few seconds!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Keith
Good honest video Charlie, thanks for posting, it's good to see even experienced modelers make mistakes!
I'm sure there must be printers out there that can print an image in one continuous run for the length you require, thereby avoiding joins, which are always going to be visible at some point. Putting such a large print up successfully would be the thing mind you!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Grant, the replacement is in its way
Hi Charlie just a very quick acknowledgement to your reply.I will indeed continue your process like i do with Jenny Kirk-Dean Park Station-Evarad Junction.I agree with your comment i have a long haul and task before myself,( Rome wasn't built in a day,as they say.Photo's have been taken from the bare earth, then footings upwards so far.A friend of mine from my old UNI days.who is a wizz on computers. Will set up my own U-tube in due course. Not bad for retired Senior Theatre Sister to take on.Far better than knitting watching soaps. My other half loves his fishing.out in all weathers. My kids think i am nuts to take on such a task !!!! .All the best Charlie and thank you once again-----Cazz
Just be careful Carol not to be over ambitious.
Model in stages.
Crawl, walk, run.
You've been great inspiration - I've just ripped out my back scene also!! I think they never look quite as good in real life as they can on video / in magazines and the slight imperfections mine developed increasingly bugged me - a 3D hill side with tall trees in front of a white wall will grow in its place! Keep up the good work..
I share your pain!
I know I shouldn't laugh ... but I had a good chuckle at that last scene....
You and me both mate.
@@ChadwickModelRailway 4 years later ... still makes me laugh ...
Charlie I’ve done that end bit with ceiling paper many years ago.... the difference was it was all over my head a rant and rave and out the bedroom widow 😱...... The printer looks like they are good , although I did paint my sky scene ..... onwards and upwards Charlie.... thanks for sharing.... regards Fred
At least it made you smile Fred
Thanks Charlie, that LOL did me the world of good!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it
Nick
I've had similar troubles in the past so I really feel for you.
Thanks mate
Hi Charlie. When I said I was looking forward to the next video the last ten seconds were not what I had in mind. Ha ha. Don't get to despondent even Lionel messi misses the odd penalty. Just remember if at first you don't succeed.......... Get in touch with the printer again. Good luck Charlie go again.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and the replacement is on its way.
Very entertaining indeed Charlie 🙂
I’m so glad that you enjoyed it Darryl. Regards Charlie
Remember those days in UK wallpaper , just glad in OZ painted walls👍.
Looking froward to seeing final outcome, what ever you choose, know it will be great.
Thanks Richard, but at least it made you y.
lol love the ending - Drew
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Drew
I laughed so hard at the last 5 seconds! Very comical, unlike the problem at hand, I will watch with interest as I have yet to do my back scenes
At least it made you smile
You have my sympathy on the back-scene - it is one of the hardest things to achieve when modelling. I've messed up a few in my time. Keep up the spot-on detail though :) Cheers, Brian
At least it made you smile Brian.
Oh Charlie. Feel for you mate. I would have considered a Radio Mast to disguise it. But hey ho. Good luck next attempt. love the vids.
At least it made you smile.
Charlie i know what a sodding nuisance these things are, and its for this very reason i have now chosen to just paint the walls, the colour i chose is "Johnstones Waterfall Blue Matt emulsion" its a beautiful summer sky blue and it looks outstanding, with a summer sky there doesn't need to be any clouds at all and it looks better when i run things at night too. I cleverly did one wall a slight shade lighter to stop room reflection, now it looks identical in colour all the way around no matter what angle you look at it.
A good alternative plan. At least it made you smile.
The look at the end said it all!!
Sorry it didn't work out Charlie!
Laura
At least it made you smile Laura.
Brilliant! We have all been there. I’m fighting a similar problem at the moment, I didn’t rip it up to start again, I thought I could live with it. How wrong.
Rip it down if you’re sure that you can improve it.
what a great piece of entertainment, i couldn't live with that seem ether
It was too much to bear Tony.
I’ve been thinking about that problem of the seam of the large panels, and i think your idea to go to three panels, rather than two, is definitely a good way to go. Place the location of the seams away from the focal points, and as much as possible behind a structure or foliage to mask them. If the focal point is the viaduct, then place the seams as far away as possible from there, and that should solve the seam irritation issue. Also suggest talking to the vendor for a recommendation about what would be the best type of paint, what sort of paste works best with their product, and a wall paper roller to run along the seams.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. The roller wouldn’t as there is no overlap. Stay tuned for the update.
Great video Charlie, I feel your pain. It’s a bit unfortunate the join is in such an obvious place. Good luck with Plan B!
Thanks Crispy
Hello Charlie,I have been ploughing thro all your video's or part 1,very interesting.constructive easy to fellow as you have explain things in detail easy to fellow and understand,i thank you.Just a quick insight of my own project.I'll shall not be too long in the tooth as they say.Erecting on going still a 20' x 18' workshop erected up on 6 bricks,to prevent dampness,.5 mil, thickness, roofing lining, marine ply all round, plaster boarding, even the inner.3 layers.electricty, cctv, alarmed going in.Its really funny how afew neighbour watch over the fence in my process. But once i had started to place 8'x4' the marine ply sheets on the top,a few did come to my aid.So a few beers were handed out and around my way of thanks!!! Drain pipes on next to run into the river Wandle only 40' away.Hence the height of the cabin/workshop.My main railway layout will be Southern EA's 3-4.Hayling Island-Morden Underground(late 50's 38 stock)-Chatham,with a few A 4's thrown in.(will look rather odd to say the least Link/fox etc.It be DC not DCC as i have well over 180 Engines + rolling stock which cost a bomb to convert over.To conclude my father was a driver on the Goldern Arrow and on the Alantic Express.I'm the old school like yourself Charlie, steam is a living thing.Gained the bug way back when Lines brother's were at South Wimbledon on a school visit, with a free gift of the Princess Elizabeth, black .Then it was triang,hornby/double oo etc then moving to Margate in the 60's.All the very best Charlie----Carol.(Cazz)
Well Carol,
You are certainly ambitious.
That’s a very challenging project.
I’m so pleased that you enjoy my videos and hopefully you’ll stay tuned.
Regards Charlie
You made my morning. Sorry it did not work out, but funny ending.
At least it made you smile Larry
Ahaha!!! That last bit!! :-D
I've just discovered your channel. Nice work, well presented and I'm looking forward to more. :-)
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Sammy.
Great! Love it! I'm not laughing at you, Charlie, but that was hilarious. Good luck with back scene 2.0
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, wish me luck tomorrow!
Charlie...Charlie...Charlie, you cracked me up with that video, I sure am looking forward to your next attempt. Cheers Greg
At least it made you smile Greg
Hi Charlie , I got a good laugh at the last scene, well done ! Hindsight is a wonderful thing ! I know that feeling well ! I am currently re doing some of my layout for similar reasons (just know I am not happy with the way it looks/works) I suspect everyone goes through that on every layout they're building. Cheers, Richard.
Richard, that’s so true.
You are passionate about your hobby and you are a delight to watch... with a great sense of humor. however no BAFTA for that performance .
I’m clearly no actor Patrick.
Nice one Charlie, I believe I have there too.
Yes, it harder than folks think.
Regards Charlie
