  • Today we're painting the trunk lid and hood for the 1955 Mercury using the $50 HPLV paint gun and single stage urethane. The trick to spraying paint with a cheap HPLV paint gun and getting no orange peel is to spray at full pressure ✅

    I used to work with a painter when I was a young man, he could fix a wrecked car an put a beautiful paint job on it .He didn't have a nice paint booth. Just an old metal building and we had just finished painting a car one day and someone came by and banged on the door. Dust just filtered down all over our pretty paint job. As far as taping a car up,I've done that too. Watching your videos brings back memories. Thanks Chad!!

    Hi Chad, necromancing here. I heard your name mentioned in a less than favorable way, so I had to check you out 🤣🤣
    First, people want to be told what they want to hear, not the truth. All reality shows are scripted, even the Automotive shows. Anyway, well done, seeing as you don't have a multimillion dollar facility, you contend with the reality of this, and as far as I am concerned, you are doing a great job. Don't worry about the haters, as the song says, "it's your thing, do what you want to do". Also I could actually see the color of the paint going to red in the cup, so I knew you would be OK, your video's will help a lot of DIYers. Oh and thanks for keeping it PG13, and not every third word a bomb.

    I am older. I work and learn - pride that I do my best. Watching you for my first time, you bring my memories of my time prior to my now 17 surgeries (most big ones happened to my spine). But watching you reminded me of working hard on repairing and painting my mom's car so many years ago. Today I remember my mom's pride in her son and several body/painters complimenting me on a fantastic job well done under the conditions I faced. To you I complement you on the work you have done with the results you have achieved throughout your shop..... Fantastic to an older fellow who prides myself in doing the best job I was able and truthfully you do the same!!!

    I'm amazed at all the different trades chad has, then he combines them all for a finished costum project. There are only a few of us that are that talented. He reminds me of myself when painting, always checking and very impatient for the final finished product. People have no idea how much work there is to get to the actual stage of painting. The easy part is the spraying. Great job Chad.

    • @thetriggerman954
      @thetriggerman954 Před rokem +2

      The easy part is spraying? Yeah ok 👌🏼 painting an even film, even texture, no dry spots, no runs, while keeping overlap even,keeping paint to a desired and consistent peel throughout the entire job. All while not spraying to heavy to prevent solvent pop but also not to light. Then keeping in mind to give proper flash time so that the paint doesn't dieback on you. And while doing all of that still making sure to not get to much dirt into your paint. I could keep going but I think you get my drift. Mr. BODYMAN 😂😅

I've recently well....for the last 3yrs been moving towards starting my own liquid wrap/vinyl wrap/paint business, and I've found myself so worried about everything when it comes to the build, and design of my booth, as it is a home made booth, and not a professional $20,000+ one. Just relieves some of my stress to see the quality of work that can be accomplished with so little...not that your shop is trash, or anything like that I'm just saying it's pretty cool. Chad, I've been following you for a while and have great respect for what you do in your workshop. What I love is that you do all this without very expensive equipment. But sometimes I ask myself some questions about the tittles that you put in your videos. For example, Spraying with a very cheap paint gun without having orange peel. If your parts are sprayed in this video, you do not show that you do not have an orange peel. I certainly expected you to want to prove this, for example by putting a light on it or zooming in with the camera. We have not been able to see this at all.

  • @DavidBrown-mn3iy
    @DavidBrown-mn3iy Před 2 lety +7

    I'm sure we all stand with you under the truth banner. Keep in mind that the truth lies in the meaning giving form to the words. The problem as I saw it in that video was not in the truthful words your spoke, but in the tone. That is entirely subjective for me and for each of the others involved, both viewers and participants there in your paint room. If Jim and Jolele understand your meaning, the truth will prevail. If they were uncomfortable with your tone, the truth may be too bitter to swallow. You need to do whatever is necessary to assure that they understand both the meaning of your words and your genuine feelings for them - that will include your love and affection but also your respect and admiration.

I done bodywork before this, but never cutting anything out and welding new panels in.. So I’m looking things up all the time on how to do certain things, and I was super happy when I came across your videos.. I watched you on your tv show and I fell in love, with the car’s that you build.. So I hope your show is going to be back on again.. But I’m having problems with my welding, I don’t have a big welder or even a good name brand, maybe that’s part of my problem lol.. But my welds look like crap, I thought I was doing a good job, till I looked at it. I was using a 0.35 wire for welding, but the other night I was using it and doing other things as well, but I heard my welder making a strange noise and I couldn’t figure out what it was, till I looked at the end of my tip, I had the trigger sitting in a hole on a milk crate and somehow pushed it down and it fed all my wire out of it lol.. SMH 🤦‍♂️.. So I had to go buy more wire and I looked up what is better for welding panels on, a video I watched said to use .023 or 25, around that, they didn’t have anything like that where I bought it from, so I got.030 and it’s like a copper looking wire this time, because it said it worked well for panels, so I got it, but when I weld with it, it’s like I’m popping popcorn 🍿 way worse than the wire I was using, and it seems like it comes out slow, even if I keep adjusting the settings on it.. Do you know what I’m doing wrong or why it’s acting like that??
    I’ll be really surprised if I even get a message back from you.. I see this video is about 8 months old already.. But I’m hoping that you still get notifications with this video and you take the time to read all of it lol..
    Again I love your work and you being real and always saying the truth.. So I hope too hear back from you..
    Thank you

    I have no experience painting cars but I’ve got an ass of experience painting cabinets . Always used oil based products. I’ve found that if you have two separate containers of paint it’s best to “box” (mix) them together to assure color consistency. After boxing is the time to separate. I also use a product called Bloxygen to extend the shelf life and prevent skin over. It’s an inert gas that settles on top of the paint and pushes the air aside or if you use enough completely out of the can. If you have leftover paint from a job it’s great for long time storage.
    I really enjoy your videos and someone else commented that they liked that there was no raucous music to drown the speaking, I concur.
    One last comment. The worst part of spraying is the gun cleaning. I always tried to capture as much of the cleaner solvent as possible and let it “settle out” for a day or two and poured it into a container to be re-used as a gun cleaner again. After spraying used solvent through a few times I’d then switch to new for a couple of cleanings. Solvent costs more than gasoline so it deserves to be used as much as you can.

    I am gathering information related to the topic you are addressing, to repair a rear fender wheel well that is rusting on me. So you are totally correct the viewer, well at least this one, appreciates the facts or truth on how to apply the correct procedure to accomplish such a repair. Not interested in babble or entertainment at this stage of gaining information on how to address the fix. Good job as usual. Thanks much. Harold.

    I am new to your channel. I am also enjoying your channel! Thanks for not overlaying your content with needless music. I dont have to rewind time and time again to catch what your saying. Extreme pleasure not getting irritated with excess needless noise and not hearing the content. I have NO IDEA why some content creaters feel its necessary or desired by the viewer to have boxed music "talking" over them. It makes, me anyway, not subscribe and even unsubscribe to channels. Even if they are putting good information out there. Just as there are lots of "bs'rs" out there, there are lots of folks who also know what they are doin'. Theres my rant and my truth! I appreciate your knowledge and the sharing there of!

    Just know what the Bible says about truth.
    It says know the truth and tell the truth and the
    truth shall set you free.
    And I think that you Chad is a extremely
    honest person and tells the truth in everything
    That you do.
    And your work is some of the best work on

    Awesome instruction
    Back in the 80s. We used to mist our paint room with water to keep the dust down prior to painting. It was difficult for a kid to understand "mist" vs "drench".

    Nice lesson this is how I have taught my self to spray cheap urathane and single stage paints with a cheap 40 dollar harbor freight gun to avoid orange peel and flaws in the paint and comes out nice and flat and shiny with no imperfections. Only difference is when I do my first coat I paint it medium coat then my last 2 coats are literally as wet as I can get each coat right until it runs and is to wet so right before that point and it takes practice to get it right and know by just watching the paint and being able to have the eye for it but once you do it's very easy building scale model cars actually taught me that method and skill to paint car bodies with no runs and no orange peel and get a thick beautiful shiny glass paint job believe it or not model cars taught me how to paint cars sounds crazzy but true. But my way I learned of doing it almost exactly like your way of doing it after I watched more into the video so thanks for showing us all your tips and tricks in your videos very helpful. The way I avoid the light dust aka dry paint particles from coming back down and sticking to my freshly painted car as in my circle track latemodel and super stock or my hot rods I build is to wet floor and then I visquen the big two barn doors I open them then put the plastic sheeting then stick a blower fan to blow it all out I use two of those sealed around with the same plastic sheets covering openings cuse barn doors are open then I have two decent high power fans on each side of car one up front and one at the rear on opposite side blowing straight up and it helps a lot and I rarely get paint dust on my panels anymore cause that dry overspray paint dust will ruin a decent or nice paint job then you gotta wet sand with 5k grit sand paper and buff and polish it out
