      No not yet but it would be pretty much the same except with a solenoid. There are some things to add though like dealing with having solenoids on when flipper buttons are on so they don't overheat and a few other things. To be honest, my ssf is so good...I might not add solenoids.

    I'm gearing up do a VP cab. I have a MAME machine I want to finish up first, but then it's go time! It's something I have been wanting to do and I have been inspired by your videos. I found a gutted Gottlieb, circa 60's, for $275. Unfortunately that means I have to fit the playfield into it instead of the other way around, however that saves me time and money on building it! I went overboard on the computer and playfield monitor though. Mainly I wanted to fill the space as best I could and felt that I needed a computer that could keep up. The Monitor is an INNOCN Ultrawide Monitor 40". The computer I built has an AMD Ryzen 7 sitting on a MSI B550-A PRO ProSeries Motherboard with 64 GB DDR4 ram and a PowerColor Red Dragon AMD Radeon™ RX 6800 XT Gaming Graphics Card. Again Overboard... I will have to get your email so I can send some photos once I start!

      @wayofthewrench  Před rokem

      Wow! That's quite the pc.....my test build was just an i3....lol. Sounds like you got a good plan. I'm interested to see how your ultrawide goes cause the dimensions will be off a bit. Still will probably look great! Cheers!

    • @takingbytes1265
      @takingbytes1265 Před rokem +1

      @@wayofthewrench Yeah, I know it's way overboard, but I wanted to make sure I could hit the 144Khz refresh rate. Well that and I'm probably compensating for something... As far as the playfield monitor, I looked around but I couldn't really find anything sized right. The inside dimensions are about 20.5"W x 37"L. The Innocn just about fills the space lengthwise. However, it's 16.5" tall so there will be a gap on the sides. I'm thinking about doing an infinity mirror as a bezel using the RGB LEDs. I think it might fit the space theme I have planned for the side art. Unless you're talking about the video on the screen, Yeah, I worry about that too, If anything I can always swap the PC with my desktop and get a 32" to put in it. Thanks for doing videos on this stuff!

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Před rokem

      144Hz will be amazing at 4k! Your infinity mirror bezel would be cool!

    • @takingbytes1265
      @takingbytes1265 Před rokem +1

      @@wayofthewrench Well it's not 4k per se . 4k is 3840 x 2160p. Ultrawide Monitors have a resolution of 3440 x 1440p (at least the ones I'm familiar with), so the pixels per square inch isn't the same. I got to tell you though, making is the easy part it's getting the software working that I struggle with. Right now, I'm struggling with getting a stable 15KHz image on my CRT with GroovyMAME after a reboot.

    Awesome! I’ve got some beacons that I’m gonna wire up soon. I assume the process is basically the same?
    A few more questions:
    How do you know when/if you need a diode?
    Is it ok to just use 10A fuses for all the toys since the relays support 10A?
    Thanks again for doing these - awesome videos!!!

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Před rokem +1

      Yeah pretty much the same, just hook up another relay from the sainsmart and change your config file. The diodes are for anything that will cause power spikes after it is shut off (motors, solenoids, knockers, etc). Depends on what you're trying to protect as you add a 1.5 times the amperage of the part you're adding usually. Thanks for the watch!

  • @fernandojconti
    @fernandojconti Před rokem +1

    Thanks for the video, very instructive as always. But, why did you choose that horrible motor? I went for two small and light Black & Decker electric screwdriver motors wired electrically in serial mode and I can set up the "sound" of the gears by the Pinscape connecting them to a PWM output.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Před rokem

      Thanks. I used it because it was free, used, and Toyota which means it will be noisier and last forever. The motor had two speeds which helped pick the better gear noise too. Also the windshield motors are geared down so lot's of gear noise. Yeah my kl25z board doesn't have pinscape as its a Virtuapin Controller on it...so no PWM but that is cool to have alter your gear motors how you like it. In the next video I add a PWM controller board to alter the shaker motor so that would also be an option too if someone didn't like their gear motor speed/noise. Thanks for the watch!

    Awesome. Great video as always! -- It seems like there is some modifications to DOF install (shortcuts in the right folders) when you go to 64bit. I haven't done DOF yet, but I think there was a mention of that in Marty's video from Game Club Central. Have you done the upgrade yet?

    You mentioned that you can use space connectors to connect a diode. I don’t have any soldering skills. How reliable will this technique be and do you recommend it? • @wayofthewrench

    Hey man, I'm curious. When it comes to using inline fuses, is there such thing as using too big of a fuse? Such as, If I'm not sure what amp fuse to go with, could I just use 10 amp inline fuse for everything? Thanks

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Před rokem +1

      Yes, if you put too big a fuse than it will never pop if something is wrong.....it will literally let your wires melt/parts blow. I used 10 as it seems like most devices needed that. You usually take what the amperage is for the device and add a bit of a safety buffer like an 8 amp device would get a 10 amp fuse. Otherwise the fuse may pop when it first starts because the current spikes a bit on start up but then settles down. Thanks for the watch!

    I downloaded everything to do with dof. I'm trying to get a gear motor working with the same table but do I still need a cabinet file? I really can't get it working with the gear motor with the same relay board

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Did you follow my DOF videos exactly? I would start with some led lights to ensure DOF is working properly and then add toys. Off of the top of my head, I know you need a cabinet.xml file for the lights but not sure if you need it for just a gear motor. DOF is really picky with naming conventions and placement of folders/files so go through the video again step by step. Also if you have upgraded to newer vpx or 64bit, you may be missing the dof files in those folders. Good luck!

    Hoping you can help. So I followed everything as far as where to connect the wires. I got to the testing phase and when I select Relay 1 where I have my gear motor plugged, it worked! Then I turned off, then it back on and it only worked for a second and then the gear motor stopped working. It wouldn’t turn back on so then I plugged the gear motor directly into the 12V, bypassing the Sainsboard, and the gear motor was working again so I’m good there. So then I go back to plug in the gear motor into the Sainsboard and it’s not working still. Any thoughts why it work the first time and not after? I tried moving the gear motor to other relays but it’s like the Sainsboard doesn’t recognize it anymore.
    When I click on each relay, I do hear the clicks to indicate they are working but the gear motor still won’t respond.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Před rokem

      Hrmmm maybe check connections for polarity and loose/bad connections. What is the input voltage to the sainsmart board? Try to operate the motor with the usb relay manager to test and not dof.

    • @Rocelot15
      @Rocelot15 Před rokem +1

      @@wayofthewrench Ok. Thanks. I’ll redo the wiring and see if it’s that. Voltage going to it is currently measured at 12.07. If all else fails, I can try another board since I know the motor is working. And I haven’t tried through DOF yet since the Sainsboard stopped responding to the motor.
