    I've been holding off on posting this video since the summer due to all of the aftermarket backbox options that were being introduced. I still haven't seen anything that comes close to the $100 I spent, since most are above $399.

    Although, I caution following my attempt at putting your own DMD into the stock ALP Backbox. You will come out much cheaper in the end. It's a Risk vs Reward scenario, and you can destroy your precious ALP by doing what I did. So please do not do this :) or at least wait until you see Part 2 in the coming week...

    Pretty cool mod. I wish I had your patience. I probably would have snapped the plexiglass. I had already bought the AtGames Legends Arcade in May for me and the Arcade 1UP Infinity Game Table for the now grown family at Christmas, but alas I had to buy the Legends Pinball from Sam’s Club because pinball wouldn’t feel like pinball on the arcade. I told my wife I would save the pinball machine for Christmas. My curiosity got the better of me so I decided to assemble it. My wife saw me assembling it in the basement when she took the dogs outside. I got the “look” from her so I gave her the power cord and threw a blanket over the unit after I made sure it booted up. I didn’t even get to shoot one ball. I work from home so I sit beside this thing everyday….waiting. You have to pick your battles and I knew I had to give in this time. 😂

      Same thing here! I work from home all day, but fortunately I was able to start playing from day 1 :) You will definitely enjoy it on breaks throughout the day.
      It’s funny you mention patience in your comment. That comes into play in Part 2, lol

    Nicely done! Lots of scary stuff going on , in there. I've tried 8" DMDs, but my vision just won't let me see those tiny displays, from 3 feet back. I'd likely have to put a larger monitor, for the back glass, and a 15" DMD below it, with the speakers being moved to the back. Did do that on a GRS 3/4 scale table. Works well, albeit looking non-canon. Works for me. visitors can just play the A1up tables, if they don't like it. LOL Perhaps one larger vertical 16:9 monitor, split for the two display streams would work, too. Glad you were able to get it all working. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

      @FactorofGames  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for sharing ThomasGrillo. Good idea with the single verticals screen. I know there are a couple different aftermarket DMD & Backglass Backboxes out there, so at least there are options for folks wanting to and a decent sized DMD

    Why not have a piece of glass in place of the plexcy you can spray paint the inside of the glass and also you can cut a separate glass for the dmc screen so youll have 2 pieces of glass if you like

    Was it necessary to remove the stock dmd screen though as it's really fragile I've read? I'm thinking just 4" × 1" slot cut under the stock dmd so the cables for new monitor just feed in from back of monitor. Then I'd just 2 way tape with something strong like gorillas the new monitor to the box

    DMD mid is nice. I may do something similar. I want my mods to stay close to home, too. Replace exciters with stronger ones, throw in a rumble bass and call it done (except I might do a DMD) for me if my modding starts going too big, I'd rather buy a bigger, badder cab or build from scratch.

    • @FactorofGames
      @FactorofGames  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, I agree with you. At one point, you just have to make the call to build a more official cabinet. I’m well past that point, but I’m lacking space, which keeps me from building the full size unit, so I just keep hacking this ALP up, lol

      @@FactorofGames yup. Big deciding factor, right there. My game room is tiny. Maybe 10 foot x10 foot. Luckily removing doors on and clearing out a closet gives me some more real estate. But that's what steered me to look at 3 machines with multiple games and controls each to give me the ability to play the largest array of games I can. ALP I think really hit the mark.

      @@FactorofGames don't have yet. Arcade 1up Outrun that I want to modify with a Logitech G29 force feedback wheel and you can get a manual shifter and 3-pedal setup then load it with any racing game I'd ever want. that works together and the atgames legends ultimate. My dream. I should have the other 2 in a month or 2. My ultimate dream for my tiny setup is a custom cab instead of the legends ultimate and have buttons, spinner, guns roller ball and flight stick on a 2 player set up. But that's just a dream right now. I know nothing about building stuff.

      @FactorofGames  Před 2 lety

      Hey David, yes you’re correct. I mentioned that at the end of the video. You still need a way to back out of OTG. You can also just flip the power switch on and off if nothing else.

    Is the plexiglass clear with the names and black colour printed on it? If so, a ink remover might be better than actually cutting the plexi. Just a thought.

    Nice video! How can I separate the DMD display from the back glass? I want to do this with my legends pinball but right now my back glass and DMD are on the same monitor. Thanks

    • @FactorofGames
      @FactorofGames  Před 2 lety

      The only way to separate them is with a PC and using the OTG capabilities of the Legends Pinball. You need to also purchase the AtGames Vibs board to connect up an additional hdmi connection. This playlist should cover a lot of the overview for setting up your ALP for backglass and separate DMD czcams.com/play/PL8q1uu7_LJHRv9UJBEWtlqmWI1xrS8sNF.html

      I have my pc hooked up and I am using a separate monitor right now just for fx3 because atgames is out of the boards at the moment. Once they have them back in stock I will use the legends pinball back glass. I just purchased the 3rd screen for my DMD to be on i just wasn't sure how to separate the DMD display from the back glass. Thanks for the response and I will check out the link you provided.

    • @FactorofGames
      @FactorofGames  Před 2 lety

      Got ya, I wasn’t quite sure where you were in the process. So the Pc will need to see all 3 screens which means your PC Card will need to have a few DVI ports or hdmi out connection. I run a setup with 1 hdmi out and then 2 dvi to hdmi out and that accommodates all 3 screens. You might be able to use USBc to hdmi if you have that option on your rig.

    Do you have to purchase the artwork for the back glass for each table in OTG? If so how do you go about doing that? Also is there any programming for the DMD to get it up and running? I have a capable desktop and built a custom back box. Already have the 24” monitor and DMD. So questions are.. any programming to get the DMD running and also about the artwork for each table in the back glass in OTG. Tks for any help in advance

    • @FactorofGames
      @FactorofGames  Před 2 lety

      For the DMD, it depends on what PC game you are running. The most basic is Pinball FX3, and all you do is email them for a free cabinet code and then it unlocks the DMD and Backglass options. At that point it’s just adjusting the positioning on your screens and finding the images for your Backglass. I believe I found mine on a Reddit forum, but it was awhile ago. You essentially need the images in 1920x1080. Just do a quick search for “Pinball FX3 Backglass images” and you’ll find them. The DMD info is already in the game.
      Other games like Pinball Arcade, require you to pay to unlock them officially. There has been some mods that are supposed to enable “cabinet” mode support, but I haven’t tried them.
      Then there is Visual Pinball and Future Pinball, but admittedly I have little experience here and fight with it all the time to get it working. I would suggest Terry Red’s channel here czcams.com/users/TerryRed for information on those programs.
      Good luck!
