Finally. Someone who won’t have to go buy another Sportster to replace the one they sold.

I can see the feelings for wanting to keep a bike. Through the years I have done the same and at one point realized I never drove the one I kept IF they are too similar to what I bought. So I stopped keeping bikes unless it's a completely different kind, like having a Cruiser and a superbike, or a Supermotard and a Cruiser etc. etc. Letting go is always hard.

Good point that was definitely a consideration. I figure even if I'm not riding though it will still get use as a project or tinkering with it

When you look at what the dealer offers you for it, your first question is "would I buy this bike for that much?" When the answer is yes, you keep it. Always good to have a spare for when the other one is in the shop.

When I first started motovlogging I started with my Duke 390. After I got rid of it for a bigger bike my subs suffered for a while. You made a wise choice keeping your "founding" bike. I'm on a 04 sportster now myself. Been fixing it up and just getting it running right. I threw an air cleaner on it, rejetted it, changed up the exhaust set up. Other than that I'll do some aesthetic mods I think for now.

Good for you. Like you mentioned they are very similar the Sporty and Street Bob so in a perfect world maybe a different Softail would've been the best of both worlds. Of course you can always massage the Street Bob into something that will make it a nice lightweight sporty tourer. Have fun!

Same here. I just got the same bike a month ago. Rode it three times, rain settled in, then I got sick. I well now. I have a Sportster too. A 94 XL1200. And a 94 FXDL with over 100K miles on it. Had em all since new.

I have three bikes now after recently purchasing a 2022 HD Heritage. I also have a 2018 Kymco Spade 150 and a 2016 Kawasaki Versys 1000. All three bikes are definitely way different from one another. I had considered trading the Kawasaki in for the Heritage and was offered a little more than what I thought I could get for it but decided against trading it in. I love me a Japanese in-line 4 cylinder engine.

I have 3, it's worth it, as long as you can afford it. 1200 48, Streetglide ST, and a Pan Am. Glad you kept it. I bought one cause it's the last year, my first HD was a 1988 1200. The first year Evo 1200. Put a nice front and rear suspension on the sportie.

Took me 35 years and 9 Hds to get back to a Sportster. Never, ever get rid of it, I say! Bigger, heavier bikes are fine... I went all the way up to a M8 Limited...rode it for 35k miles and decided I was done with the mini van bike concept...sold it last month and bought a 2008 Sportster 1200. Love it! And I love all the extra money I got from the sale, lol.

@@ronyjan007 thanks. I know its certainly not for everyone... but I sure smile a lot more when I'm riding the lighter, nimbler Sportster and I sure don't mind moving it around in a parking lot...unlike the big 900 pound bagger, lol.

With the pool being closed for a month now it's finally time to ride!
    Today's ride was a 170 mile loop with a destination: Cooper's Rock.
Headed south on PA51 from Pleasant Hills to Uniontown. Head south on US119 to US40. US40 east, up and over Summit Mountain to Markleysburg and PA281.
Turn left on Friendsville Road. 9 miles of one of the best roads in Maryland. Pick up I-68 west in Friendsville, go west to the Cooper's Rock exit.
Took pictures, took time to remember my brother in law John, lost to Agent Orange two years ago now. He loved The Rock and was always up for a ride.
Come back west on I-68 to Cheat Lake and gas at 110 miles. North on US119 to PA51 in Uniontown.
    You know the rest.
It was a day I'll remember when the bike is covered up in the back of the garage for the winter, coming all too soon.
