I also want to protect future buyers of these consoles from ripping themselves off and wasting money on tech that won't serve to improve their experience. I will be making a monitor recommendation video for both of these consoles after they launch and we get to test them out!

Pease like to make people aware. This video has some false information. You absolutely do not need HDMI 2.1 to game at over 60 Hz, HDMI 2.0 is perfectly fine for the next gen consoles. HDMI 2.0 can be used for up to 240Hz at 1080p, 144Hz at 1440p, and 60Hz at 4K. So the absolute only reason you would actually need to buy an HDMI 2.1 compatible monitor is if you need 4k gaming at over 60fps, which tbh these new consoles probably wont be able to do in most games anyway. Now HDMI 2.1 does offer other new features including audio improvements and future possibilities of even less input lag, but these wont become standards in devices for years. So if you're on a budget, like myself, you are perfectly fine picking up a high refresh rate monitor as long as it has HDMI 2.0, be very careful to make sure the monitor has an HDMI 2.0 input though as some monitors still come with HMDI 1.4 which will not support refresh rates above 60 Hz.
But it is unlikely we will get to choose the resolution on console. So surely if the game renders at 4k hdmi 2.0 users will be locked to 60hz.
hdmi 1.4 does support 120hz at 1080p some even supports 144
correct. And there is no monitor released in the market as of now that support hdmi 2.1. The first monitor to support hdmi 2.1 is said to be released at the time of the the holidays.
@@Enforcer93 You can google if it supports 120hz. Hdmi 1.4 supports up to 120hz but that may not be the case with your monitor

You don't need to wait I got the viotek gft27db monitor it will do 1440p 120hz with freesync on HDMI 2.0 there is going to barely be any games that could run 4k 120fps next gen that is very demanding to run this video is misleading by the way this monitor is amazing and only cost $250

Would an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter be sufficient? My monitor is capped at 60Hz for the HDMI input but 120Hz with DP. And would an adapter cause additional latency or anything?
Yes but can’t hdmi 2.0 support 120hz at 1080p so cant you downscale from hdmi 2.1??
P.s I am inexperienced with this stuff just need some help.
Great video bro, I've been researching this subject a lot for the last few days and you're absolutely right. 1080p with higher frame rate is the ways to go if you take your online gaming seriously
But what if the new monitors come out with hdmi 2.1 which would enable 4k 120 fps. Would be a shame to get the new console and miss out on the best picture and performance. I just want to know if fps games like cod will be able to do 4k 120fps or is that out of reach for the xbox series x?

I have been talking about this for the last couple months. I don't understand why consoles don't just use a DPI port period.

@@Dan_Jams I doubt upgrading a new hdmi port vs dpi port is much difference. Low budget monitors have DPI. DPI would be 100x better especially for consumers. Maybe 2027/2028 PS6 will finally have a DPI port.

The monitor has hdmi 2.0, however it says it can run 144hz on hdmi and 280 on display port should I get it?

Pardon the ignorance, but i saw some Samsung monitors that Samsung itself claims that they can reach 144hz / 1080p via display port and 120hz / 1080p through hdmi, but it doesnt mention the hdmi input the monitors have, does this mean they might be suitable for next gen? Or is there a key factor that i’m missing here?

Thank you for the knowledge. I didn't realize we would need HDMI 2.1 to enjoy the higher refresh rate. I will keep the LG 4k 60Hz monitor I have now and try it out then. If anything I will see what you follow up with when the consoles are out and you've tested them out! You just saved me from buying a monitor before the console even comes out! I appreciate you!
I'd add though, that for 1080p or 1440p both at 120Hz, HDMI 2.0 is enough, and it's also enough for 4K@60Hz and 8K at 30Hz

Sony xh900 will have hdmi 2.1. It’s a tv but it also has very low latency. It has hdr and vrr also
Search up the eve spectrum 4k it’s the only 4k monitor that will support next gen consoles but it’s only available for preorder

I don't know about XBOX supersampling, but for ps5 more than likely a 1440p@144Hz monitor will be able to output both 4k@60Hz and 1080p@120Hz if it has HDMI 2.0
