For those of you commenting about the achievable frame rates: Several games will achieve 120fps at 1080p although the frame rates may fluctuate. For XBSX users the frame rates are more consistent in the 1080p ballpark. As far as 4k goes, most games will default to 30 or 60fps on PS5. I can't vouch for the XBSX's performance in the 4k realm, but as far as PS5 goes my testing showed 4k at 120fps to be very inconsistent. It says that this video was posted a week ago, however the information here is very dated. For example, Spider-Man runs at 60fps with Ray Tracing in Performance Mode on the PS5, not 30.

In my opinion, it's definitely best to wait till supply starts matching the demand (because having to rush these consoles out presents a huge Q.A. issue in the long run), a redesign would be greatly appreciated and fully compatible upgradable storage for PS5 is actively available.

It’s funny that I have a display capable of 120hz and I’ll just be happy to see every game running at 60fps at least. 120fps is nice but if we can just get away from 30fps being the standard that would be great. On another note Xbox’s FPS Boost is absolutely awesome.

The reason games still run at 30fps is because games aren’t using much of the new hardware and features from the ps5. Until then we’ll have to stick with 30fps
yeah 30 to 60 fps feels like 5 times smoother and 60 to 120 fps feels 50 % smoother
@@balloonb0y677 Not to mention, from a design perspective, cinematic games aim for movie quality visuals and 30fps helps better achieve that 24fps movie quality output without jarring the experience by doubling the frame rate to 60fps. A lot of the time, it’s not just hardware limitations but also an artistic choice on the behalf of the creator.
Before going into 120fps, I kinda want 4K and 60 FPS simultaneously on consoles. As of now you typically get one or the other. Then we can move in 120 FPS or 8k.

It actually was not, there were a few glaring over sites. Ps5 games are built and optimized for the very high speed internal storage. So with this benefit to quick loading and zero texture pop-in you cant play the same games off a USB 3.0 drive. In many cases people have external drives that are slower in performance compared to the original Ps4 5400 rpm drives. You cant assume everyone has an external USB 3.0 SSD drive. So SONY drew a line in the sand and said it's not worth it. I totally agree. So if you want that zero loading move to internal if you have PS4 titles move to external. So when you said spot on did you mean what he said was similar to what you thought or what he said was factual. Factually many things he said were design choices SONY made. It's not a CON if they did not make it the way he wanted it made.

It's so good and I am happy/In love for the first time in my life! I feel so good after I have played the ps4 Rust game on my new Ps5. Bullyed raided smacked around and left for dead on the beach.....
The look, feel, design and performance are bloody spectacular. There's NOTHING I'd change about the console yet and that's an Honest review. Sony haven't bothered with backwards compat, but i didn't buy a next gen system to play old games, that's a FACT. I've got a 120fps TV but it isn't worth it for these console. the games have to run 1080p (or in the case of the XSX) even lower to maintain that frame rate (Titanfall 2 running at 810p, WTF). 6 new games in the last 6 months and much more on the way, the new UI ,new controller and LIGHTNING fast SSD (loading some things in under 2 seconds), Sony have done a fantastic job... PS plus has over 1000 games as well (including PS4 titles) so if you do want to play older stuff, you still have that option.
So far, having had the console since its release day, id give it a solid 9/10.
I have owned my PS5 for a few months.
It’s a huge improvement over PS4.
my 3 big negatives with it:
1. Controller does not last long
2. The Hard drive is small on space
3. Not enough games considering it’s been out for almost a year.

I have both ps5 and series x, and series x is much more pleasant experience. I hate those DualSense controllers and Sony don't let you use your last gen pro controller (astro c40 for example). But in Xbox you can just play with elite series 2 which might best pro controller.
With regards to the controller, can’t you just play with the cable attached and have the ps5 near you and the tv far from you? That’s how I would get around that. Even though I use my one x and PS4 pro controllers without the cable I generally play close enough to both consoles that I could play with the leads still attached. My leads are long enough. Another way I get around that is having two controllers and charging one of my pro controllers while I’m playing with the other and charging the other one when the other pad is fully charged. I do agree about the storage space being small though. It was the same issue with the vanilla ps4 when that launched which is why I waited for the PS4 pro and why I’m in no rush to get a ps5. Always saw benefit in waiting. “In chess the pawns go first” Magneto.😂😂😂
@@Loophole23742 Exactly.. I always use 10ft USB cables personally and out of say 1000x of playing PS4, I've probably only used the controller unplugged maybe 5x if I wanted to charge a phone or something else without getting up.
Isn’t it like that when a console is out longer they get the performance more utilized, like old ps4 games look and run way slower than ghost of Tsushima or new ps4 games
That’s the perfect example. Sucker Punch made both inFamous Second Son (2014) and Ghost of Tsushima (2020) and the difference is staggering. inFamous Second Son is still an impressive looking game, despite its age, but it’s clear that Sucker Punch utilized the PS4’s hardware much better over time.

Great video AirBear! That no optical port really does suck had to buy an hdmi extractor for my Astro a50’s for Ike $60. Ghost f Tsushima runs AMAZINGLY on the ps5 you can get 60 FPS with really great resolution. i feel like the console would be better if more games were optimized for it. Like Warzone almost feels the same on ps5 than ps4

Whenever I play overwatch or Cold War it does play at 1440p at 120 FPS in the multiplayer matches. It does have FPS drops on the interface though. This is when I test it ofc.
Are you sure it’s not upscaling to 2160p? 60fps. I had the ps5 and it was either 1080p 120fps or 2160p 60fps.

7:39 I don't agree with that point to be honest.
There is a clear reason to why it's not possible to do such a thing. Because PS5 exclusive game that are not on ps4, are made in way to use the full speed of the ssd, and this data transfer is implemened in the core of the game itself. And this is why a normal storage can't keep up with the speed transfer the PS5 games demand to work. It's not a drawback to fully experience the new game designs.
That's also the reason why the PS4 games can be played with the external storage. Because those game don't require those speed.

I finally got an xsx about a week ago at retail price. Initially I wasn't very hyped about it cuz I really wanted the ps5, but the more I use it, the more I'm loving it. Now I can wait till next year and hopefully I can just walk in the store and buy one instead of being on the lookout for drops. Also game pass ultimate is pretty f*in lit.

Theres a fair few for Xbox (like 75ish games,which is really good,at least for consoles,but its mostly backwards compatible games so the games are not as demanding),but only like 15 for PS.
but compared the whole library of games,its probably not be worth sweating over the 120hz just yet,time will tell if it gets to the level of PC or is more of a novelty this generation.

I get 1080p120hz on cold war and looks hella good on my IPS monitor. And i just ordered a HDMI 2.1 monitor to run games at 4k 120hz and I'm sure it's going to look astonishing. As cold war at 1080p 120hz already looks amazing.

Bro I got the Ps5 and I absolutely love it. I unplugged my external hard drive from my ps4 pro and plugged it in to the ps5. I didn't have to reformat it and everything was immediately available. Ghost of Tsushima on the internal ssd is amazing as is God of War. The dualsense is the absolute best controller I've ever had the pleasure of using, and I pre ordered the new red and black options. Such a great upgrade in every aspect.

The slim is at least 3 yrs away. The upcoming "upgraded" one you speak of due next year isn't gonna be upgraded. It's gonna be a revised version of the current in order to combat the current chip shortage.

Fortunately I have very fast internet and downloading new games takes a couple minutes so storage isn't much of a problem. If you have high speed internet consider that as well.
Serious question - why is massive storage needed? Call me old fashioned but we only ever play 1 or 2 games at a time. With download times getting quicker and quicker what difference does it make to delete a game if you need space then just downloading it again from your library when you want it?
I'm playing warzone right now at 120 fps on my ps5......the devs have already said they are just scratching the surface with the ps5.....I don't feel like you really understand what these consoles will be able to do in a few years from now.... especially when devs start using game engines built ground up for the console.

I am blown away by my PS5. I do not touch my gaming rig atm, or my xbox series X. The PS5 knocks everything out the park, hands down! Also; I was able to connect all my old devices from PS4 - to my PS5. This includes PVR and controllers. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart - looks insane and is true next gen. Plus the PS5 controller is incredible!

I think it's important to remember how difficult it was to even launch during a pandemic. I'd imagine there were a lot of compromises made to get it out on time!
Sony likely had every intention of releasing things like compatible storage and different face plates at launch or at least soon after.

First off, great review - I agree on a lot of what you are saying about the console and how it is a step up from the PS4. Unfortunately, there are 3 things that I want to add, and I apologize ahead of time due to how it will be long (the 2nd and 3rd are the two major ones and are tied together, 1 is a more minor one that does change a few things - but it is not a big deal). Here are the 3:
1) Spider-Man Miles Morales does have a 4k 60fps RT mode. It is called Performance RT (or something similar). It is by no means as good as the resolution mode, but I think it should be mentioned.
2) While yes, using previous gen games can give an indication of what is possible - it is not as accurate for consoles as it would be for PCs. The reason why I say it is not as accurate is due to consoles having their own customizations and differences that you would not find on PC or the previous generation of consoles - which can alter performance as well.
For instance, the PS3 had 1Power PC core (which is what the 360 had 3 of and most PCs had 2 of at the time. I will refer to it as PPE) while having 8 Special Processing Elements (SPE). The SPEs were more specialized in their function than the PPE and allowed for more specialized functions as well as higher res and polygon counts. Problem is that the SPEs were under utilized by most devs and thus caused a performance gap between the 360 and PS3.
In fact the only devs to really utilize the SPE was Naughty Dog. They said that Uncharted 1 used 30%, 2 used 100% but was not efficient in usage, 3 was a bit more efficient than 2, and Last of Us pt. 1 utilized 100% and was the most efficient usage they could achieve. LoU1 was something that no one could have possibly thought the PS3 could run or achieve, but it happened due to the utilization of the SPEs.
3) Performance, graphics, detail, even draw distance are decided by the devs - how the devs code - and how well the code runs on the hardware.
The PS3 is a great example of this, most devs did not want to bother with the SPEs - which resulted in them not coding for those units and thus causing the PS3 to underperform.
Horizon Zero Dawn on PC is another; the game ran well on the PS4 and PS4 Pro, but those on PC had numerous crashes and even downright horrible performance on top tier rigs simply due to the code not running well on PC without being patched - and the game also could not be played at 60fps for awhile due to facial animations being locked at 30fps, which broke the game.
Even Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne are examples of this; Dark Souls 2 had mechanics - like weapons durability bar depletion - attached to the fps - so playing at 60 fps would cause the weapons to break twice as fast as playing at 30 fps - while bloodborne has its animations tied to 30 fps and playing at 60 fps without patches/code that unties the animations from the fps causes the game to break (like falling through the floor type of break - so Skyrim level/ fallout 76 level bugs).
In essence, I guess I am saying that we should not put all of our eggs into one basket about the performance that either console will achieve until we can see devs fully utilizing the consoles' hardware. That goes for average performance as well since it is too early on to actually estimate what multiplats will achieve due to 8th gen also having to be coded for (which can hold devs back on fully utilizing what the 9th gen is giving them).

With the adaptive triggers couldn't they simulate trigger stops by bottoming out sooner? things like that are more practical for me since I turn most controller features off to save battery anyways

Miles Morales has a performance RT mode which runs at 60 FPS. Also Returnal runs at 60 FPS with an upscaled 4K resolution. I imagine as developers grow more accustomed to the PS5 architecture, we’ll see higher resolutions being displayed at higher frame rates.
It depends on the developers, game engine and game genre. I would say you dont need 120fps in spider man or any single player game. However in competitive pvp/multiplayer games you could need or at least have an option for 120 fps for faster and more precise feel. At the cost of graphical fidelity/immersion.

Definitely a great review! I have a PS4 and I'm perfectly happy with it! I got mucho games on it. I think I might have had to uninstall two games of free up space since I had my system... But my other brother he has a ps5 and is sitting on a console collecting dust.. while hes constantly playing the PS4 with no complaints.
AI has a new gaming concept that will upgrade gaming as we know it, gaming gloves turn your hands into the game pad, and then the gaming outfit turns your body into the game pad, I have took it through a circuit a few times, it was addictive

@@TheIntunecatu I really don't rely on official statements because they release them so late. I knew the PS5 was coming a year before any official statement because of patents being filed. Next year should be PSVR Gen 2 and PS5 slim. (Late next year) but here's a video with some info. You can also look up patents that Sony has filed which are a great "heads up" to what's coming

What about the reliability? Soldered SSD on PS5 tells me that in the case of malfunctioning, PS5 is dead totally. I think additional M.2 storage cannot be used as a system memory.

Nah i'd rather spend that amount on the steam deck, not every gamer is into building their own PC that's not the main interest for most gamers. PC gaming is overrated, you're all obsessed with upgrading your rigs, to support the types of games that are still years (possibly another decade) away. Look at Star Citizen, that game was way over-ambitious, but that should be the standard of games on PC; that's what you buy and build a PC for.
The thing that makes me laugh at PC elitists is you guys look down on console gamers, yet all you're doing is just playing the SAME GAMES but just with slightly better graphics and frame-rate, that's it. It's not like the big devs are catering specifically to you guys, and making DIFFERENT versions of games, bigger in size and more indepth purely for the PC market lol.
This is why you PC gamers act like Jehovah's Witnesses, always trying to talk console gamers into going PC lol - "come'on just build your own PC, it's better!" That kind of rhetoric, like IF the PC market is big enough, why do you all need to keep trying so hard to persuade us console gamers to switch to PC!?!!?
WHY can't you PC gamers just be happy as you are and stop trying to get everyone else to go PC?
Just ended up finding a PlayStation 5 disk version brand new. Still wasn’t 500 but did pay about 700 for it. Thought that was relatively reasonable considering how the prices are right now. Only have a couple games on it so far. I’m normally a Nintendo guy and have a switch myself. But I have had playstations in the past and loved them. So far so good I like the Design of them too.
Same boat, mine came with an extra remote and mule morales though so I think I got hooked up but still 700 not bad

Just wait til Amd Releases there version of DLSS on the there GPUs, ps5 and Xbox SX will support this in the future. Then we will see 4K @120fps stable frame rate
AMDs Super Resolution is most likely not going to be as good as DLSS because it's entirely software based, as opposed to DLSSs hardware acceleration.

I went through 3 ps5 controllers already, 2 of which the triggers became loose and one with a stick having discusting dead zone. Just putting that out there for people reading comments, very bad experience with the ps5 controller so far.
As someone who has always been playing on PC, getting a second hand PlayStation 4 Slim is one of the best things happening to me! 🙂
With the fps i have to disagree. I have a 240 hz monitor for my pc and i plugged in my ps5 to it. I turn on the fps counter i stay at 120fps. It is a live fps counter on the monitor. When playing fortnite i noticed i hit up to 131 fps while testing out the features of the playstation. Im not sure why it went over 120 but i know for a fact i can hit 120 fps easily. Ive tried 4k 120 and it showed that i was able to get to 120 fps while on 4k.
Dude I now this has nothing to do with this comment but I have a 144fps 1080p monitor with hdmi2.0 will I be able to play 120fps 1080p on the ps5?

Just a few notes, PS5 uses a compression system that makes file sizes usually just over half of the file sizes compared to Xbox. Look at Control...XBoxSX is 42.5GB while PS5 is 25.79. Also Apex Legends on PS5 is 38GB, not the 90GB you mentioned.

With Samsung SSD you could transfer games from console to external drive under 3min it’s pretty quick so I ain’t tripping that bad on storage

4k 60fps at the $500 price range is good. However to say that all games will run at 4k 120fps or even all games at 1080p 120fps consistently would be inaccurate for the PS5. The series x is definitely different

Speaking as someone who got the PS5 on day one...I love the system. Love the tech and the games, especially PS5 games, and I’m glad I was one of the first to try it out...but knowing what I know now, I could’ve def waited. There’s not that much out that is exclusive to PS5, majority of games I’m playing are available on PS4. And the PS5 games that are out now aren’t even fully utilizing the PS5’s specs and tech. The game that seems the most advanced to me is AstroBot which came free with the system.
Man, Rachet & Clank is PS5 exclusive and looks amazing. Would love to get my hands on that PS5+R&C Bundle 😱😱😱

Are you speaking of the system level options for resolutions? FPS boost is cool, but it unfortunately cannot be replicated on the PS5 because PS4 games have a "coded" 60fps cap and even if the PS5 has the power to achieve more frames, it just cannot go higher due to that cap
@@Chr15Payne have both systems, and other than the exclusives l game on the SX. Cod at 1440p @120 is that sweet spot where the SX excels over the PS5.

Miles Morales has Performance RT mode with Ray Tracing at 60fps btw. Also PS5 games can be half the size of PS4 games thanks to compression and the speed the ssd can decompress data

And it plays so good! Gets you wicked it very quick and overwhelming games to try makes you want to download as much games as possible literally can play 4 games at a time it’s insane, I don’t give a damn about frames per second if it’s native 4K or performance mode?? Who cares it looks and plays amazing you forget it doesn’t have adaptive triggers and can’t even tell the difference between 4K or 1080p upscaled no normal person is going to notice what all these damn reviewers keep taking about

was cranking my ps5 at 120fps on CoD Warzone after the update which allowed 120fps on my 1080p monitor and it looked incredible and was insanely smooth. I then switched to PC and can max out my 144hz monitor at 1080p but it doesn't look nearly as good as the PS5
Im so glad I got finally lucky and got one (comes in tomorrow). I don't want to end up with the one using less semiconductors and end up with less performance because they had to cut corners to meet demand.
They will probably not make it less powerful. If anything it will be more power efficient. Unless they’re just fucking stupid
@@LuaCynthia thats hard to do with less semiconductors. I have no doubt its possible but the pessimist in me realizes how companies work. It wouldn't be a massive drop in performance if it does but the hoops necessary to use significantly less in them are pretty small hoops to jump through.

Without having finished the video, I don’t think the PS5 is worth it atm. I’ve had one since launch weekend and kinda wish I would’ve stayed with my original thought and waited to summer 2021.
No game that has come out only for PS5 did I absolutely need to play immediately. I had a pretty big back log of PS4 games that I probably won’t ever get to because I don’t want to download them to another ExHDD.
It’s not worth it atm. If you want customization then wait until they have more than 3 controller colors.
If going to from Xbox to Sony, I say go PC and if you have a ps4 keep it and use the endless games on PC and Xbox Game Pass.
This is just a bad take. First off your external drive that you had for ps4 works for ps5 (since you are saying another means you have one currently).
The ps5 is absolutely worth it. First off all ps4 games play better on it. Every game runs at or near its highest points through out. Where as the ps4/pro versions don't. Where the ps4/pro hiccup on the ps5 handles like a champ. And also no noise.
Also if going from a Xbox to Sony that's actually pretty big and Sony offers a lot for said player(s). Psnow has over 800 games. All for $60 a year. That's 50+ ps2 games. 600+ ps3 games. 200+ ps4 games. Not to mention combine that with ps plus and you now have instantly 20 games via plus collection and you also get 3 games every month. 2 ps4 games and 1 ps5 game. And given the fact that a lot of these titles are playstation only titles that you can't get with going to PC. Granted psnow is on pc but that's entirely streaming only where as if you are using a playstation only ps3 games are streaming only. Ps2 and ps4 are downloadable.
And while you find no game worth it day 2 that doesn't mean for others it's not. There is currently 6 next gen only titles on ps5. Compare this to 1 game on xbox with a second game coming soon. Meanwhile ps5 has quite a few more due to release before the end of year.
So hey if you want to stick to slow loading speeds, loud noise from the system, and not playing the best version of ps4 games then thats on you.
I kinda like playing ps4 games with their best leg forward. Whether that is 30fps with the highest DRS possible running almost always at the highest. Or whether it's 60fps with DRS running at its highest resolution for nearly if not the entire play through with the most stable fps.
Playing BC mode 3 ps4 games as well as playing the ps5 version of the games when they have a cross gen release.
There's a lot of reasons to own a ps5. And a lot of people tend to agree since it's always sold out in seconds when it goes on sale. Hence why they already sold over 10mil and are projected to have sold over 20mil by the end of the year.
If you play ps4 games through an external hard drive on the ps5 can you still get the same graphics as the ps5 version of the game?

If they change the design and lose performance at 60fps with 4K I’m ok with that. As I said barely any games will run at 4K 120fps. When do you expect the the model of a Ps5 to be released? Heard mid 2022 sometime.
