@@Top10YTx that's because of his goalscoring statistics and his 3 world cups. Football was slower back then, you had much time on the ball compared to today so it was easier to score goals (that's why there was more players back then who had lots of goals compared to today which only CR7, Messi and Lewandowski have over 600 goals). And btw in all the 4 world cups Pele played in, he was never the top scorer in any of those.

Cause we younger people rate all these players based on opinions from older people, youtube compilations and stats and many other things. Also you cant say 100% sure that it was easier to score back then, just because the game was slower. There are way more parameters that are relevant. Some people say maradona is more talented, some say messi. I dont know 100%, but they have to be on a similar level. And that level of natural talent is probably the highest in the history. That alone would be enough for messi to be in the goat debate (see maradona) But on the other side messi also has goat level stats and numbers, on pele/cr7 level. And not only goals like pele cr7, also around most assists ever. While maradona, pele and cr7 are in the debate because either talent or stats numbers, messi combines both. Thats unique and thats why he is untouchable to this day and for at least the next 15 years, because even if haaland and mbappe reach a similar level of standing, they will probably be mainly there cause of numbers and goals, just like CR7.

My late father got me into Cruyff. He said there was no one like him. Unfortunately I was a bit too young to remember the great Holland team of 1974, or the Ajax team that won 3 straight European Cups in the early '70s, but I remember my first World Cup of 1978. Unfortunately Cruyff had had an argument with the Dutch FA and didn't play in the '78 world cup. If he had I believe Holland would have won it. Like 1974, they made the finals again. I watched every Holland game. The team had Cruyff's fingerprints all over it. Player's like Johnny Rep, Rensenbrink, Neeskens, Arie Haan with his 2 amazing long shots against Italy and Germany. Please look them up on CZcams, you won't be disappointed. Cruyff was majestic. He's got a move named after him, 'the Cruyff turn'. Pep Guaduarlo is very much inspired by Cruyff, having played under him at Barcelona. The way Pep loves to play, out from the back, both left back and right back right up the field, pushing their opponents right back into their own half. Every member of the team has to be good on the ball, including the keeper, really lovely football to watch. This was Cruyff's vision to play total football and to keep passing, pressing, scoring as many goals as possible. It was Cruyff's influence that made the great Barcelona team of Xavi and Iniesta and Pep as manager, were they won Champions Leagues and Spanish League titles over the mighty Real Madrid. It was also because of Cruyff this influenced the incredible Spanish Teams of 2008-2012, where they won European Cup, World Cup, then European Cup, consecutively. Thanks for everything Johann Cruyff. He made football a much better game to watch. Genius.

Definitely in the category of the greatest footballer of all time. Johan was an artist who defined “the beautiful game”, he was elegant, creative, superbly skilful. Watching him was like listening to a piano concerto by Mozart or Beethoven, just simply breathtakingly beautiful! And unlike other truly great players, he became a legendary coach! A true football immortal, legends never die.
Cruijff was so fast. He came at a defender, then accelerated, and just as the defender started his tackle, Cruijff would accelerate again. He had an extra gear. And he was superflexible, he could turn on a dime, switch direction in full sprint. One of a kind.
Messi aint 180cm and a beast in all types of atack. I am not saying messi cant do the things that Cruyff did but Cruyff just does them better. Twice as large and Twice as fast, Twice as astonishing aswell.

I like Messi and few other great players, but for me Johan was and will remain forever the GOAT. Thanks to him, when I was 8, back in 1974 I became a huge fan of Dutch football. Johan and Holland forever.

Totalmente de acuerdo, soy madridista, pero reconozco que Cruyff a sido uno de los mejores de la historia, yo lo vi la primera vez con el Ajax y quedé impresionado, desde entonces a sido mi ídolo, para mi él mejor.

I met Johan Cruyff several times.He was a genius.1983 i took the train from Hamburg to Amsterdam.I saw a game against Twente Enschede in the old Ajax stadium.The next day he signed some autographs and posted for a picture.Unforgotten.RIP

you are rediculous. John fell down on the pitch more than he scores a goal. His only technique is speed. He didn't know dribbling, passing or keeping control of the ball, so he always fell down .

Now Am not saying he way better than Pele, Romario or Ronaldo Luiz Nazario whom i think might have ben the best attacker ever lived, but there are so many of them with so much diffrent qualitys. And Cruyff was one of the absolut greats during the 70’s. Hes movement with the ball was just as good as any player in (ex) todays La Liga. He was way ahead of time. Scored lots of golas as a player and did very well as a coach. Iniesta and Xavi got their roots in the technical area and the tactical way of playing from Cruyff. If it was’nt for Cruyff= No Iniesta and no Xavi. No Iniesta and Xavi= No Messi💯

Cruyff, Maradona, Ronaldo, Messi, they all have the same thing: they think faster than everyone else, are always 2 or 3 steps ahead, have seen the space where it will open up, have the technique to put the ball in that space and the explosion to get there before the others do. It's beautiful to watch.

Thank God i was able to see Cruyff play at the tail end of his career. I wished I could have seen him when he was playing for Ajax and Barcelona at the beginning of his career but at least it is something.

Football was slower back then, you had much time on the ball compared to today so it was easier to score goals (that's why there was more players back then who had lots of goals compared to today which only CR7, Messi and Lewandowski have over 600 goals). And btw in all the 4 world cups Pele played in, he was never the top scorer in any of those.

You see one game of messi, he doesnt even need to score in that game, and u instantly know why he is in the debate. He is so talented and naturaly gifted at least on maradona level. Some people say maradona is more talented, some say messi. I dont know 100%, but they have to be on a similar level. And that level of natural talent is probably the highest in the history. That alone would be enough for messi to be in the goat debate (see maradona) But on the other side messi also has goat level stats and numbers, on pele/cr7 level. And not only goals like pele cr7, also around most assists ever. While maradona, pele and cr7 are in the debate because either talent or stats numbers, messi combines both. Thats unique and thats why he is untouchable to this day and for at least the next 15 years, because even if haaland and mbappe reach a similar level of standing, they will probably be mainly there cause of numbers and goals, just like CR7.

My late father got me into Cruyff. He said there was no one like him. Unfortunately I was a bit too young to remember the great Holland team of 1974, or the Ajax team that won 3 straight European Cups in the early '70s, but I remember my first World Cup of 1978. Unfortunately Cruyff had had an argument with the Dutch FA and didn't play in the '78 world cup. If he had I believe Holland would have won it. Like 1974, they made the finals again. I watched every Holland game. The team had Cruyff's fingerprints all over it. Player's like Johnny Rep, Rensenbrink, Neeskens, Arie Haan with his 2 amazing long shots against Italy and Germany. Please look them up on CZcams, you won't be disappointed. Cruyff was majestic. He's got a move named after him, 'the Cruyff turn'. Pep Guaduarlo is very much inspired by Cruyff, having played under him at Barcelona. The way Pep loves to play, out from the back, both left back and right back right up the field, pushing their opponents right back into their own half. Every member of the team has to be good on the ball, including the keeper, really lovely football to watch. This was Cruyff's vision to play total football and to keep passing, pressing, scoring as many goals as possible. It was Cruyff's influence that made the great Barcelona team of Xavi and Iniesta and Pep as manager, were they won Champions Leagues and Spanish League titles over the mighty Real Madrid. It was also because of Cruyff this influenced the incredible Spanish Teams of 2008-2012, where they won European Cup, World Cup, then European Cup, consecutively. Thanks for everything Johann Cruyff. He made football a much better game to watch. Genius.

Definitely in the category of the greatest footballer of all time. Johan was an artist who defined “the beautiful game”, he was elegant, creative, superbly skilful. Watching him was like listening to a piano concerto by Mozart or Beethoven, just simply breathtakingly beautiful!
And unlike other truly great players, he became a legendary coach!

Now Am not saying he way better than Pele, Romario or Ronaldo Luiz Nazario whom i think might have ben the best attacker ever lived, but there are so many of them with so much diffrent qualitys. And Cruyff was one of the absolut greats during the 70’s. Hes movement with the ball was just as good as any player in (ex) todays La Liga. He was way ahead of time. Scored lots of golas as a player and did very well as a coach. Iniesta and Xavi got their roots in the technical area and the tactical way of playing from Cruyff. Me es imposible describir lo que sentía cuando le veía jugar tanto en el Camp Nou como en el resto de los campos de la geografía de España, pues solía desplazarme cuando el FC Barcelona jugaba en campo contrario y siempre salía satisfecho con lo que demostraba y hacia disfrutar a todos los aficionados de ambos contendientes. Personalmente he tenido algunas conversaciones con él y me asombraba todo lo que comentaba, especialmente el reglamento del fútbol que lo sabía incluso mejor que muchos colegiados de la Primera División del fútbol español y no era para nada un presuntuoso, se mostraba muy natural y muy seguro de lo que decía. Me quedaba embobado por su impresionante personalidad y por su tan humano y humilde trato con todos los que le tratábamos y eso me hacía sentir un privilegiado por estar tan cerca de mi ídolo. Un gran vacío sentí cuando nos dejó aquel fatídico día del 24 de marzo de 2016 y a pesar de los años transcurridos, sigo recordándolo y jamás lo podré olvidar mientras viva y siempre estará en lo más profundo de mi corazón ¡GRACIAS POR TODO LO QUE NOS HAS DADO Y FUE MUCHO!

Thank God i was able to see Cruyff play at the tail end of his career. I wished I could have seen him when he was playing for Ajax and Barcelona at the beginning of his career but at least it is something.
