Hi, Teez! I'm just now getting to comment after watching your reaction late last night (I'm still a bit under the weather), but had to get online to say I'm super glad you enjoyed the song so much! It was awesome to see you so hype over the music! I cannot wait for you to get into more Daughters of Reykjavik. You're going to be blown away by how talented and diverse they are! Alright, the best way to do this is a numbered list, so here's some stuff I think you'll find interesting (I'll try to keep it short and save some stuff for future reactions when you get to them):
1. Reykjavik is the largest city in Iceland and also the capital. It's pronounced like rake-yah-vick, so you got pretty close! Your smiley face sticker is in the mail. :D
2. Reykjavíkurdætur translates to Daughters of Reykjavik.
3. Salka Valsdóttir (aka Bleachy P) was the first rapper and Jóhanna Rakel Jónasdóttir (aka Cheezy J) was the second rapper. Those two are a duo called CYBER that started out as a punk group and evolved into hip hop, a lot like Beastie Boys, which I love!
4. CYBER held an all-female hip-hop meet-up in 2013 where over 20 women rappers showed up to intimidate the male-dominated rap scene in Iceland. Soon after, the outspoken, feminist rap collective Reykjavíkurdætur (Reykjavik's Daughters) was formed, which consists of both solo acts and several smaller groups within the collective, including the aforementioned duo CYBER. They officially changed their name to Daughters of Reykjavik in 2020 and there are now 9 core members of the group, but other ladies from the collective still collaborate with them on tracks and at shows.
5. The lady that had a few lines towards the end of the video is MC Blaer and OMFG she is DOPE! She's both a solo rapper and a member of the group. And that was most of the women in the collective sitting on the bed in the video. I can't wait for you to hear them rapping on other tracks.
6. They told their prime minister to suck their clits on live television because they dgaf!
7. Beastie Boys and a Tribe Called Quest have been my favorite rap groups my whole life (over 25 years), but I love Daughters of Reykjavik just as much. Remember how much you loved Ashnikko? She's amazing, but these ladies blow her out of the water imho.

@@TeezMcGeeNo problem! I love sharing! I've been trying to find out everything I can in English about this group ever since discovering them a little over two years ago. It's been really fun! It's gotten to the point that I've recently decided to try learning the language because I want to know exactly what they're saying. #obsessed I'm also hoping to catch a live show in Reyjavik someday. Not sure if I can do either of these things, especially because of a condition I have called Broke AF, but I'm gonna try! :D
Reykjavik is the name of the capital city of Iceland. They have a very vibrant music and arts culture. Reykjavíkurdætur means Daughters of Reykjavik (daetur = daughters). I vacationed there with some friends in 2019 (my third visit). I brought my guitar and harmonicas and another friend brought his guitar and we went downtown to do some street singing. We drew a pretty good crowd and had some people dancing in the street. A waitress came over from a bar across the street and brought us free beers! They seemed to enjoy the classic rock, blues and Bob Dylan songs we were playing!

Wow, awesome to see this! Iceland has a surprisingly good hip hop scene, my favorite song from daughters is Ógeðsleg. Also worth checking out Ulfur Ulfur (another Icelandic rapper) sometime.
Ógeðsleg was the first track I heard by them! I was hooked from the start! I've already added that video to my list for Teez to react to. I just know it's going to blow his mind! You get almost the whole group rapping on one track and get a real feal for their individual styles and a sense of their personalities. I cannot wait to see that song featured on this channel!
