  • Exciting video as we test out the new smeding diesel drop in non vgt turbo! We spec our turbo out as a 64.5 billet compressor wheel with 360 heavy duty thrust, 68mm exhaust wheel and .70A/R housing. We go over the turbo and installation. Then we RIP this turbo to see what it’s made of!

    I really love Smeding Diesel and MDC Diesel are both the same kit. I bet Mack from MDC Diesel is a phenomenal man.

    You know what works really good to keep boots on pipes? Clean with brake clean, then a very light coat of Permetex high ttack spray. It's red in color(the product). I've NEVER had boots blow off. I've installed hundreds of cac boots, never had a single one come off with this method. I have seen them blow apart, but they never slid off the pipe.
    Sounds like this turbo light stupid fast! I was skeptical, but this seems like a good setup if you want to roll non vgt.

    However I have a question in regards to a engine build. On your previous 6.0 engines builds when u replaced the lifters and guides. Did you use the Oem stock ones from ford???

    Nice work and video. She sounds nasty 👍. Might need a dyno session in the future. I like rerouting the CCV to help prevent those boots from getting only and blowing as easily. What's your thoughts on that?

    I can't imagine the drive pressure is very good with that little exhaust housing. The exhaust housing looks smaller than the one on my 1.8l Honda.

    Cody, how did you finally address the odawg 3 and the 12an fitting that sits under it. Used a low profile 90* and just not enough clearance to snug it down so getting seepage. Can I dremel down the intake a bit or is there another way l see in video you have a 45* thanks for any advice

      It cleans these 155/30s up no problem. I was amazed. I see now they are rating it for up to 550hp (64.5mm turbo) and I believe them with how well it’s cleaning these injectors up. I could feel it ran out of fuel during these pulls, but turbo was ready for more

    Since the 6.0 doesn’t have a waste gate and uses the VGT to control boost is there a concern with overboost?

      For normal headstuds I think yes but if it’s studded it can handle up to around 75 psi of boost before stretching the studs

    So I been thinking about this set up also. With the MCD/smeding Is it legit. Or a waste of money and should just get the more expensive one. And also is it gonna be good with stock injectors.

      This is almost impossible to answer, it comes down to personal preference and what you are using the truck for. There’s advantages and disadvantages between vgt and non vgt

      It would peg the factory map sensor which maxes out at 28.9psi. I really need to get an aftermarket boost sensor.

      No, Smeding Diesel is made of materials for building turbos, manifolds, and components. They're proudly built in the USA.

      No unfortunately I think it would be way to much fuel. I’m thinking the cut off for this turbo will be 190/30

      The biggest wheel they say is only good for 550 so you wouldn’t clean up those injectors just not enough air

      @@Bacongrease00 Your point is true, but tell me, when are you driving around at WOT using all your available horsepower??? Or have us diesel guys never had more injector than turbo???190/30 is good for 600hp on a all out tune at full throttle. However your everyday driving, this turbo should be perfect! Just realize that it won’t clean up 190/30s on the top end.

      @@LeftLaneDiesels same as you, 155/30’s. I’ll get an identical turbo too lol. I also have a stage 2 cam. I’m gonna go with bigger injectors eventually but this setup is such a fun truck to drive and super street able. My buddy had a s364.5/68/.83 with 190/75’s and the truck was pretty fast and a good time but laggy as hell and ridiculously dirty. He’d be cruising at 60+ and smoke would just be rolling. With that being said I’m pretty sure he never got it retuned which would explain a lot of that

      @@psdleach I’m a huge 155/30 fan for your everyday guy that wants a good bump in power over just a tuned truck. I plan to bump up to 190/30 in the future, curious to know how this turbo will do on that large of injector.

      @@LeftLaneDiesels I’m curious too. If they could configure that with larger compressor and turbines with the .70 I think it’d open up a few doors. I’m assuming they probably can’t because of fitment restraints like you mentioned in the video. I gotta get to work on getting a turbo and we both gotta work on figuring out how these will handle 190/30’s. I’m hoping they won’t be too much fuel cause I think that’d be a pretty badass daily/street truck.
      In all seriousness if you wanna make stickers like that feel free. We’re not in competition in anyway so it affects me none.

      I’m not going to recommend the cast 62 option to anyone. Being that all options come with the same exhaust wheel and turbine housing, you might as well go with the 63mm billet or sxe-r option if looking to run it on stock injectors.
