    So compounds on the 7.3. That's what I heard...

    For a daily driver, I love the VGT. If you are going full on race truck, then you may need the non-vgt. But most people don't race their trucks. And from my experience, non-vgt trucks don't tow nearly as good as VGT trucks.

    I guess you could get less drive pressure with a larger fixed A/R turbine but for most folks a stage 1 or stage 2 KC turbo VGT will move enough air to do the job.

    You can add a 369 or 400 series with a DPS vgt and really compromise. Had to go to a single 6.4 and added a DPS vgt to regain drivability.

    My 6.0 Power Stroke is 100% stock with the VGT Turbo, since I am not modifying the truck in anyway, It works just fine for me! All I am doing to it is a blue spring kit, along with a 4"Flo Pro Exhaust, the rest is just fine the way it is!

      Don't sleep on a good alternator. Reliability benefits especially for the FICM. Just FYI

    We love a good VGT turbo. Yes, you do have to maintain them and the stock 6.0 turbo can have solenoid issues, but the tuneability is great for most applications.

    Charlie, what are your thought on compounding a 6.0 with the vgt and a s400? Should still have fast spool up and have crazy top end, right?

      Yes, thats the beauty of it! VGT spool up, with S400 Top end poser.

    I have been contemplating the DPS VGT on my T4 364.5 7.3, the benefits when towing seem like a no brainer

      Someone on the forums did that with some injectors and a 66 I think. Ended up overspeeding the turbo and blowing it up. I think he switched to a 72 then? Maybe 76? If you're staying stock injectors though it might be the cats meow

      There's not much support from DPS or advice on turbine/compressor sizing when you're strapping one of these housings to a 7.3. I know from my experience and from others that I've spoken to that have one on the 7.3 is that they are prone to surging on the S300 platform, when sharp lift off the throttle, under almost any amount of boost, manual transmission surge every shift, auto trans surge @ part throttle shifts when dropping into OD at moderate speed. Seen a few different solutions for blow off valves, all using the throttle signal to activate, so good for the manual trans guys I guess? But how do you fix all the surge on an auto trans?

      @too-stoked-about-2-strokes Před 3 měsíci +1

      Perhaps S400 platform a better way to go to scale to the 7.3 for the DPS housing, but a hard pill to swallow when your 7.3 is already setup for S300, as you'd have to change downpipe and up pipes also (if you're using irate kit). Compounds looking more appealing at that point, especially if you're on larger sticks.

      Yeah Jim, he oversped his and broke it, his fix was a blow off valve and did a larger turbo while he was at it.
      2strokes, I agree the surge problem has been an issue for auto and manual guys. I was ready to give up on the VGT but then one guy with an S363 had a lightbulb moment. He noticed factory VGT turbos like the L5P run 11+0 wheels. He swapped out his wheel for an 11+0 wheel and the surging stopped

    Really the only downside is reduced reliability from the moving parts in a VGT. If you want 800+ HP, then you should run compound with a VGT. Single turbo is just dumb at that point.
