Award-winning journalist Arwa Damon has just returned from a humanitarian trip to Gaza in her capacity as the founder of INARA, the International Network for Aid Relief and Assistance, a nonprofit currently providing medical and mental healthcare to children. Damon describes the overwhelming need for aid under Israel's siege of the territory. "Nothing goes in and out of Gaza without Israel's approval. That includes aid, and that includes people," she says, calling the Israeli military's rules for what is allowed in "illogical" and arbitrary. "The zone needs to be flooded, not only with aid … but also with humanitarian workers," concludes Damon. We also discuss the mental health crisis gripping the population, U.S. military assistance to Israel and how anti-Arab racism and fearmongering in Western media coverage has and hasn't changed in the post-9/11 era.

I met two people who lived during the second world war and could not forgive the Germans. I thought this was incredibly unfair with so much happening since then and Germany a new country, having learned their lessons (not so sure now). I am starting to understand those people. once you go back in time, every nation has commited killings. My grandfather was in an Arbeitslager (work camp) in the 40s in Germany. Why should I hate Germans born decades later for that? I'm feel ashamed watching this while sitting on my couch, warm, watching it rain outside. To be stuck outdoors in the elements with little to no help, no sanitary conditions around me, and FOREVER BRACING for another strike is unimaginable. Seeing those children with skin stretched tight over just bones is horrific and makes me question why my country is supporting this, PRETENDING to warn Israel of more attacks. Sadly they have more than likely killed the hostages that they're fighting for while blaming Hamas so their hands look clean. Gaza's conditions insure a whole new generation of fighters who grew up with fear in rubble. They will have nothing to lose.

She's good in her descriptions of the situation, but her simplistic, naive, ignorant analysis of Syria and Russia as dictatorshios and Israel and the US as democracies is devoid of any understanding of imperialist dynamics. It's hard to believe that she's had years of experience in various war zones without trying to understand what was happening geopolitically. Just reading the book by Aaron Loewenstein on what the US gets in return for funding Israel at billions a year over decades. She should have been challenged on her but Democracy Now shares her problems and never presses such guests....The ICJ participants all made airtight cases for the indigenous Palestinians having the exclusive right of self-determination (the right to form/maintain a separate state on their homeland) and the right of self-defense against a violent occupying army yet she and others refer to a colonial-settler apartheid state of Israel as a "democracy"....she's either corrupt or seriously obtuse!
Thing is, I don't think anyone can really wrap his or her mind around this thing that is happening. It's a kind of stupefied numbness those poor people are surely experiencing, and I think the whole world feels it too, to a certain extent. It's just an unfathomable Evil. There can only be a one state solution. The two-state solution was never going to work, since the powers that be always intended for the current situation to exist. A viable and stable Palestine was never an acceptable option within the Zionist two-state model. Anybody who still mentions the two state solution has zero understanding of problem, or understands it well and is using it as an excuse to continue in the destruction of Palestine. The true toll could be a hundred thousand or more. Children succumbing to diseases, malnutrition, and lack of clean water are being buried uncounted. Hamas lost the ability to count a long time ago. Those under the rubble were never counted. I have heard from more than one source the toll could reach 200,000 or more when it ends. More than 10% of the population is not inconceivable.
Remember in 2002 the Jenin massacre killed 500 Palestinians, then the Red Cresent counted 22 civillians and 27 combatants , in addition to 23 IDF soldiers.
High casualty estimates based on no facts are generally reduced as facts become available in the case of Palestine. In other conflict zone, such as Yemen, more information leads to increased casualty counts.
The images on TV are nothing like we have seen - ever.That says a lot.
