  • It may have been nearly a decade coming but the second generation Q5 has arrived and it's got a lot going for it. We spend a week in it to see how well it works for family life.

    Very impressive review. I really enjoy your take on cars, you touch on all the useful stuff to know about day to day driving, not necessarily from an enthusiast perspective, as some other auto reviewers do. Thanks, keep them coming!!

    Just got my 2018 Q5 2 days ago. I'm having difficulty finding anything to complain about. I'm coming from a 2016 S3 so power is a bit less but for a Compact SUV it does quite well I think.

    Nice to see a excellent review close to home in the Calgary area.

    I know this video is a few years old, but would you mind sharing which car seat is used in this video? Thanks!

    Hi Paul. I very much appreciate your perspective on both this Q5 and the 2017 A4 Allroad. How do they compare seating width wise? A car can get tight once winter comes and the heavy coats come out of the closet. Thanks!

      Hi Dave... I didn't check that out but I imagine they'll be pretty close to one another.

    I just got a 2017 Q5 and I have no idea how to let the back seats back up.

    the center arm rest looks really short/far back and looks like using it's slide forward position would need to be used..and if so, it'll then block the coffee holders ... is that correct ? you mentioned 62 DB, I saw another review say 72 DB's, is there different ways of testing DB and Canada or U.S. have different DB rating system ? quiet cabin is a must for me in my next car and need to verify this. i don't want to trust my ears, as maybe any specific test drive with any car, may vary, depending on environment of such specific test drive and skew my opinion... is the front dash soft touch or on the harder side.. I'm comparing to an RDX.. I'll likely go test drive this car this week..

    Nice review, especially the car seat part. Would you recommend this or the 2018 Lexus RX350?

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  Před 6 lety +1

      In terms of style, infotainment, comfort and driving experience, I would choose the Q5. For reliability, Lexus and Toyota are tough to beat.

      Thanks Paul, this is the most comprehensive/detailed review I have seen of Q5. I have the same dilemma as the above user. Can you comfortably seat two adults, with the car seat going in the middle, in the second row of Q5?

    What did you update from yesterday?

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  Před 6 lety +3

      Dongi just made an edit about the Lane Keeping Assist. There IS a way to turn off the system easily on the end of the turn signal stalk.

    Good job dude.. I am looking at buying a 2018 progressiv in the next few days. Love your take on it. Especially since you live where I live in Southern AB. I was thinking a Q3 since I am just a single guy, and kids are all grownup and gone. But, I really think the Q5 is a better vehicle. If you see this in the next 24 hours, (Jan 20/23 ) feel free to send me your opinion. Is the 2018 still worth it today? 16,000 km's on it.

    one thing you missed out on is the maintenance costs of owning an audi.. since you're aiming this towards new families.

    Why cant second row seats have height adjustment

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  Před 6 lety +2

      One thing the Q5 has is reclining second row seats, which is pretty cool. But why would you want height adjustable second row seats, Leelakant?

    • @Gangat_Car
      @Gangat_Car Před 6 lety

      Family Wheels Sir, as a general example me and my friend are of same height, but when both sit, he is taller than me due to my lower extremities being longer in comparison, so the thigh support and head room support can be configured as per our height of sitting; An overall height specification configured seats does end up giving comfort to only one category and not all is my experience.

    Why you get the base model

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  Před 6 lety +1

      Most of the time we're in the highest level trims but sometimes we're given the more basic versions. And I actually like looking at the basics, too... shows what you get for the starting price rather than the fully blinged out version.

    • @EB720S
      @EB720S Před 6 lety

      Family Wheels I agree with you you have to satisfy all types of potential buyers so they know the trim levels and what to get but I think for a luxury mid size suv people will choose a higher trims and this base model does not show the real quality of a the q5 but good work i wish to you all the best

      Sorry, only you can know your own needs and wants. In family situations, though, carefully compare cargo space and ease of getting everyone in and out of the auto. Thanks for watching.

    No touch screen no adaptive cruise and no heated seats in low trims are real turn off in this great suv 😔😔

    Mexican made German car. Hell no. Didn't VW learn their lesson with the old Jetta and all the issues they had with those Mexican assembled ones.
    Hell no hell hell no.
