The valve cover has the PCV valve built into it. That valve will cause cylinder 1 and 7 to misfire. That’s why it worked.

It's is the valve cover but you don't have to buy a new one. Just take the valve cover off and drill more drain holes for the oil to return and clean the pcv with break cleaner or engine degreaser and that will solve the problem providing you don't have a bad coil or wire

  • @macz1proent.982

I changed valve cover and stopped oil consumption., The way the new one at aftermarket is built has a different engineering which doesn’t keep oil from burning that’s what I was told. Turned out that I was still burning oil or losing oil and I couldn’t find out where it was coming from until it was put out on a lift and found out that my rear main seal needed to be replaced I haven’t replaced it as of yet what I did was use blue devil rear main seal sealer. That thing worked magic and I am no longer leaking.

Really enjoyed your video. Taught me a lot. I was thinking that this problem was my lifter. I have a 2014 Yukon XL 5.3L V8 SLT. I have a misfire on the1st and 7th cylinder so I replaced all the spark plugs and wires and coil on the 7th cylinder and that made it run a little better for a while and then it had another misfire on the 7th cylinder again after driving it for a while. I don't have the tool to check the compression yet on the cylinders yet. The vehicle runs good until we stop at a light and the idle is real rough. I hope it's not a lifter but I don't want to continue throwing parts at it either. I guess it is what it is when it come to the vehicle. What are your thoughts on my problem?

Valve cover = misfire? + "If it's not that, you're gunna need an engine replacement" ? I hope no one watches this video and starts feeling "informed" or thinks they have a solid diagnostic direction with which to pursue a fix. Neither of the two previous statements by the mechanic are valid (in the context presented, at least.)
Maybe you mean valve cover 'gasket'? Even so, if you considered this to be an "honest mechanic", I feel for ya. There are literally dozens of things (at least) an honest mechanic would need to look at in order to establish a strong/valid case for engine replacement. Sure, oil leaks are generally not a good thing - especially on the spark plug/plug boot.
Something isn't right in the way the mechanic explained it to ya. Or, they're hiding something. Something else had to have been done/wiggled/replaced/connected/etc. But alas - if it's working...it's working. Cheers.

Beyond false due to a engine needing 3 things to work. Fuel, Spark and Air
The valve cover has a PCV valve in it for the air, to much or to less will cause it to not combust correctly therefore causing a misfire. You got the word " Cover " to much in your head.

One weird thing, as it first was idling I got a message on the screen that said something about service electrical system. It flashed and I never saw it again. It didn;t throw a code. After that, no problems. I drove it a few miles and it did fine. So at least I know its not the lifter or a piston problem. But I don't trust that it just went away magically either. These coils, spark plugs and wires are only a year old. I'm going to run some fuel injector cleaner thru tank of gas. I'll see if the error comes up again but at least I know if it now says cylinder 4 then its coil or wire. I have seen the fuel injector cleaner trick you mentioned. Any fix I have the same issue I checked with a scan tool and misfire counting on cylinder 2 and 5 I already changed plugs coil and wires

@@alexquezada510 could be injectors, I replaced all mine. My avalanche has an afm (active fuel management system) so my issue is a failing afm lifter. I use atf a cap full of it every time I do an oil change, every now and then I’ll use more just before an oil change. It helps, but the lifters tend to fail especially after 200k miles.
