You saved my day! I am writing you 5 minutes after trying this fix. I'm right now in the middle of a 14 hour road trip across country and my 2018 Chevy express started acting up (thankfully I was at a stop light when it happened). I went to a mechanic and he told me what was wrong, but the shop was closed and I would have to wait 2-3 days for the part to come in. So I went to the auto parts store down the street and bought the part $162 after tax. The throttle body comes as one piece with the throttle body sensor. It took me an hour to replace it, but I did and now I'm on the road again!
Glad I found this video friends....my 2008 Silverado was parked for 3 months and after I picked it up to Thank you drive 600 miles it started in the first 100 miles and did it the whole way. I couldn't even pass someone going 40mph in a 70 mph zone.Thank you braaap 509...nice production.
Great vid... I just had the same thing happen to my 09' malibu, 2 days before Xmas lol... thankfully, we have a friend that had a shop for about 35 years before contracting MS. But he's still able to do certain repairs for us very inexpensively. I'm almost sure that's what's up with my malibu. For weeks it has been running slightly over 1k rpm while idling at times, more often than not, for almost 2 months until today, 12/23/22, when the "reduced engine power" msg came up and wouldn't go over 20mph! Thanks again for the posting and making these vids, you're a big help. The best of the Season to you and may you have a Happy and Prosperous New Year! 🙏✌️
Thank you so much man. Saved me lots of $ too. Horrible to be on the Memphis 500 at rush hour and the "Triangle of death" was a perfect description! For only 150 more, it was really easy to change with only 2 bolts an d 2 screws. resnap the wires and 45 min later rollin. Peace and love brah. Hope to see you on the other side :)
I had this problem with my truck today, and when I got home from work I bought the sensor and replaced it. Now it's working perfect. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It helped me a lot.

Thanks for the video. My truck was showing same code and had rattling noise from the sensor area. Pulled it off and got a new one from Auto Zone $51. Runs even better after cleaning throttle body.
Great video if your trying to save a buck. I know mine did the same thing. 09 GMC Sierra. Took it to AutoZone to put the scanner on it. It reads back, FAULTY WIRES AT THROTTLE BODY. My mechanic told me it would be the throttle body soon as I told em the code it was reading from the scanner. AutoZone sells the whole assembly for 200 or so. Sensor and new throttle body. It's literally removing harness like in the video and 4 bolts you can see in the video right in front of the throttle body. Remove bolts and take off. Clean the inside of intake. Mount the new one and done. MAIN THING MY MECHANIC TOLD ME WAS UNPLUG THE BATTERY BEFORE REMOVING HARNESS. SAID RPM WOULD BE A LITTLE CRAZY FOR 2-3 DAYS IF I DIDN'T. Well I forgot and he was absolutely right. Said the brain was reading a new sensor and would take that long to adjust. Truck is running great now. It's definitely worse in the Winter basically what happens is the throttle body gets sticky when it's it's cold and The problem is that the 2 sensors have to be sequenced evenly so you push your gas pedal the throttle body doesn't open immediately to match the gas pedal sensor and it sends a missed signal and puts it into that mode

@@braaap5096 No dice for me 😕It was solid for a day and a half after cleaning the TB, then started up again. I'm going to give the brake pedal sensor a try now. 😅
Did you have a tire PSI sensor go down? Just curious because I had one sensor go down then a couple months later the traction control light came on but always on for a short while then comes off.
Good time to clean TB and MAF as well. If you're looking for a scan tool spend a bit more and get one that can access vehicle modules and can do throttle (idle) reset. Usually those can also do steering angle reset, parking brake and a few other resets. I used mine to do TB reset after cleaning.
Got a 2004 chevy tahoe that keeps reading reduced power,my mechanic claims I need to have the computer downloaded..I replaced everything throttle body, maf sensor, throttle position sensor, foot pedal.. could there be another issue?

I bought a throttle body with built in sensor for my 2010 enclave from amazon. Seams like it worked for a month and now light came on again. Could it be a cheap no name rhrottle body i bought? Please help
My 2009 gmc sierra 5.3l turned out to be the whole throttle body. Not a fun or cheap fix but I tried spark plugs, MAF, MAP sensors and also the TPS and no luck. Turned out to be the throttle body.
Just wondering if this fixed the problem for you. I'm having similar issues with my 2012 gmc Sierra driving down the road and then a bang and traction control and stabilitrac lights come on with reduced power. Thanks great video.
I always thought this was incredibly dangerous, why gmc would design this as a "Fail safe" is beyond me. What if you're on the interstate and it decides to be like fuck you, no power!
Hey very helpful video it seemed to have fix the limp mode problem, however after doing this and starting my truck goes up to 3krpm and stays there until I take it out of park. Any idea as to what is happening?
Having the same issue with my Impala man...I had a little piece break off the actual acceleration pedal the other day and out of no where....the car will not accelerate at ALL unless I reset the position sensor before driving every time....but it's also doing the whole reduced power if I sit for.too long...ughh what a mess!
Man bro do you think this works with a 2009 Tahoe o have the same issues along with the gauges acting crazy and deff no power rpm was up but the truck went no where over 30mph abs light tract light stabilizer light check engine light all on ....good video bro any info would help
Yeah they have the exact same motor so it should be a solution for that problem as well. If any of the things I suggested dont work the only other solution I've seen on any video that worked was the steering position sensor but I would check that last if nothing else works.
I am sorry i have the same problem with my truck it is a 2013 gmc sierra but mine sometimes turns on the traction control, stability truck, abs, breaks, and reduction of power and when i break ig makes a poping sound and it won't run more than 35 miles

Yeah definitely at least try this before spending money on any type of sensors are parts unless you know that your throttle body sensor is out. It's basically just a flaw in the Electronic throttle System being so sensitive
No but if you rotate it by hand it will put it into auto reset mode and will recalibrate it self on the next "start/ stop". Dont be afraid to rotate it after install before first start.
I got a 2008 impala LT.1 year ago I put in a new accelerator pedal sensor and throttle body.about 3 weeks ago i got in and started up one morning and the engine light came on,traction control, reduced speed light came on and stayed on for about a day.the next morning it was off.can anyone give me any advice on why that might have happened.even though those parts on there are only a year old???
I would check your throttle body make sure it's clean if it isn't clean it out really well.. if it's sticks even for a second it will send a Miss communication signal which is what enables the modes you're describing. Its one of the most common cause and its free to clean it
I have the same issue with my Mazda 6..got the MAF sensor replaced and the throttle body cleaned.the problem occurred again after driving for a few miles. Can anyone advise for a solution pls
Hey guys my truck does the same thing, but on mine the accelerator doesn’t work and then after It works. I need help I recently change the transmission on my 08 Silverado 1500 what can I do now ???
Sound like its the peddle side sensor of the electronic throttle system. It works off two sensors. one at the pedal and one at the throttle body and if the signal is out of range for any amount of time it will put it in this limp mode. Inspect the Accelerator area and sensor on the pedal
I have an 07' chevy tahoe that did the same thing for the last couple of days. The stabilitrak light came on and engine completely lost power, it wouldn't accelerate. Had to pay $400 to have the throttle and the sensor replaced. Praying this will take care of it🙏
Would that work on my 2007 GMC Yukon I already spent $1000 or more I can’t keep blowing money on mechanics that think they know the problem I haven’t looked at my idle but I’ll clean it and check and dose any body else ever have a p0641 code problem if so please help me out
Did you line up the throttle position sensor with the right direction to the peg that you were putting it on the piece inside of the little brass part on the throttle position sensor has a slot that has to be lined up with the arm on the throttle body
Same thing with my 07 Escalade the same thing happened to me the last time it happened the motor turned of by it self on the middle of the road so. So yea it’s the orange triangle of death
@@braaap5096 yeah ours does too. I replaced the tps sensor but that didn't fix it. Now it has code p2138 so I'm assuming the motor in the throttle body is bad. Going to replace that with a used oem one. Hope that fixes her as she is the daily lol
So if you change the throttle positioning sensor That 1 is position sensor number one position sensor number 2 is attached to the back of your accelerator pedal worth a look🤷♂️ Is any difference in between signal one Signal 2 will cause that mode as well

Thank you for the video I have a 2010 Malibu and same thing is happening
did you solve the problem?? i have the same thing it says service traction and esc off.. it doesnt say reduce power or anything
@@lifesagamble3742 I'm also in the same boat did you figure yours out
That would be your torque sensor
Was having the same issue with my 08 yukon. Changed out the tps this morning and lights are gone and running like a champ again.
Mine started doing this today and also got the low oil pressure shut engine off message. Did yours do the same?
great job on making this video
Thank you
Have a 09 escalade having this problem hope this works for me
My 08 Escalade doing this how do i fix the problem it say power reduce to n my peddle go right to the ground
Mine was the TPS Sensor wire harness clip was partially broken. So when the harness moved - it slightly got unplugged and would set off the "Engine power reduced" message. I got a new one from the Chevy dealer for like $25. I replaced the wire harness. And while I was in there I replaced the TPS Sensor like you did. The truck drives perfect now so far. It's about a year now.
Where is it located
Have same problem with Chevrolet Malibu hopefully works thanks
Mine came on when pulling my trailer uphill, downhill it goes away? Makes me feel it is a transmission issue?
Thanks this worked for me!
sounds nice.
Having this issue with a '15 Chevy Traverse. Going to give this a shot tomorrow. Thanks for putting this video up. Unbelievable that Chevy's new cars do this
🤞
Lmk the results 🙂
@@braaap5096 No dice for me 😕It was solid for a day and a half after cleaning the TB, then started up again. I'm going to give the brake pedal sensor a try now. 😅
It won't be the break pedal it would be the accelerator pedal sensor
@@braaap5096 Nice! Thank you. I'll give it a shot and report back.
This was a great video
Thanks appreciate it
Did you have a tire PSI sensor go down? Just curious because I had one sensor go down then a couple months later the traction control light came on but always on for a short while then comes off.
did u solved it?, i’m like u i have tire sensor went off and the same problem popped out, what do u think ?
I got a 2007 Chevy suburban with the same light on but my lifters are ticking…any ideas?
Mas air flow sensor was my problem, clean it let dry and re install problem solved .
A same thing is going on in my 2007 suburban changed everything!!!! I also heard about the mass air flow sensor damn!!! I’m checking that out!!
I think that my problem
Good time to clean TB and MAF as well. If you're looking for a scan tool spend a bit more and get one that can access vehicle modules and can do throttle (idle) reset. Usually those can also do steering angle reset, parking brake and a few other resets. I used mine to do TB reset after cleaning.
What name brand & how much do those scanners run?
Got a 2004 chevy tahoe that keeps reading reduced power,my mechanic claims I need to have the computer downloaded..I replaced everything throttle body, maf sensor, throttle position sensor, foot pedal.. could there be another issue?
@@antoniofuquay2266 you found a solution yet ?
I have sent three of my guys to do a job to Indiana yesterday and just got the call that this is happening right now. They restarted the truck and it isn't throwing the warning and the truck is running ok. I may have to buy the sensor and have them do the repair on the road. Where did you get the sensor from? A GM dealership?
Autozone I believe
Mine was doing it, I replaced the sensor, but seems it got worst. Any idea?
A most excellent video👍 I hope it's helpful for my 2012 gmc acadia. Traction control just buggered on me yesterday afternoon😩 In case I MUST take it to a shop, how much is too much to pay? Thanks👋
Lmao... the orange triangle of death 😂😂😂 That's funny
Thank you and your welcome 🙏
was the “jolt” pulling you to the left or right kinda hard? bc that’s how mine is, then it goes away. i’m having the same codes with exception of reduced engine power but i can definitely feel it is pushing way less than usual.
Did you ever find the problem? Sounds exactly like what mine is doing?...
Did you speedometer jump while on the highway
I bought a throttle body with built in sensor for my 2010 enclave from amazon. Seams like it worked for a month and now light came on again. Could it be a cheap no name rhrottle body i bought? Please help
My 2009 gmc sierra 5.3l turned out to be the whole throttle body. Not a fun or cheap fix but I tried spark plugs, MAF, MAP sensors and also the TPS and no luck. Turned out to be the throttle body.
Wish i would have found your video sooner my 2011 gmc 2500 savana van had this same problemi i have replaced so many things it really is getting old
Just wondering if this fixed the problem for you. I'm having similar issues with my 2012 gmc Sierra driving down the road and then a bang and traction control and stabilitrac lights come on with reduced power. Thanks great video.
Still running perfectly since then. Thank you i hope it helped
I finally had mine fixed it was the injectors!
I hooked my obd 2 up to it today and mine said I need a new crankshaft sensor.
I always thought this was incredibly dangerous, why gmc would design this as a "Fail safe" is beyond me. What if you're on the interstate and it decides to be like fuck you, no power!
It did happen multiple times to the point I had to find the solution
Just happened to me. Fuck off GMC.
That actually happened to me on a freeway overpass in rush hour traffic! Scary stuff!
Dude my tahoe does this crap
I have had that happen twice on the highway..
I love this video
Hey very helpful video it seemed to have fix the limp mode problem, however after doing this and starting my truck goes up to 3krpm and stays there until I take it out of park. Any idea as to what is happening?
Your throttle body must be open then u didn’t make sure it was closed by the spring
Have the same problem with my 2011 impala will same thing work
Great. My problem. Had nightmares wondering what next! Any link to part?
OK so I'm on the road trying to get home for work from the holiday.. how do I get it to stop myself so I can get home??
Having the same issue with my Impala man...I had a little piece break off the actual acceleration pedal the other day and out of no where....the car will not accelerate at ALL unless I reset the position sensor before driving every time....but it's also doing the whole reduced power if I sit for.too long...ughh what a mess!
Good video
Man bro do you think this works with a 2009 Tahoe o have the same issues along with the gauges acting crazy and deff no power rpm was up but the truck went no where over 30mph abs light tract light stabilizer light check engine light all on ....good video bro any info would help
Yeah they have the exact same motor so it should be a solution for that problem as well. If any of the things I suggested dont work the only other solution I've seen on any video that worked was the steering position sensor but I would check that last if nothing else works.
Been in that situation 😔
THANK YOU!!
I am sorry i have the same problem with my truck it is a 2013 gmc sierra but mine sometimes turns on the traction control, stability truck, abs, breaks, and reduction of power and when i break ig makes a poping sound and it won't run more than 35 miles
I have a 08 poniac g6 gt and ive changed the throttle body and mass airflow sensor but it still hasnt fixed it.
I'm having this same problem but in driving a 2011 nissan rogue wld this be about the same fix?
That I'm not sure brother
Im going with ur step by step tuitoral, ..ill comment yeh or neh for chevy equinox 2.4 LT , with same error lights
Can some one help im going threw it dont know what is the problem i change out alot new things
did it shift hard ?
would have been easier removing the sensor section(unscrew) and work with putting the clips back.
"ORANGE TRIANGLE OF DEATH" oh my God I laughed my ass off when I read that, I instantly knew their pain! The things got me so many times. Imagine being on the expressway doing 70 80 while pulling a 7 x 14 tandem axle trailer. It's awesome! I love my truck but I hate GM
I know the feeling it's awful.. but I need to do something fast untill I can get home and get parts..
@@cusaundrahuntsman899 disconnect the battery with a 10mm Or whatever you can and wait 15 minutes. That should get you home
good video
Throttle body sensor... change it than it will gain power... sometimes it might be the gas pedal sensor too... best change both
I changed both and it’s fixed but when i did one and not the other, it still happened. Gotta change both. I have a 2010 GMC Sierra.
@@richpoor2855 yes... best change both... I had little money so I had to change one... was okay intell my gas pedal sensor gave out... best change both...
I changed my tps and cleaned my throttle body to preven this in the summer and going to work this morning it was super cold and started doing this. Would I have to change the pedal too??
@@gueroburban4989 yes... its best to change both... either might be a small problem on the pedal or throttle... so best to change both....
Same thing to my Yukon 05
i HAVE A 2010 CHEVY EQUINOX. SHOWING ENGINE POWER REDUCED, SERVICE STABILITY TRACK, CODE P0089 AND P228D. HOW DO I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. I CHANGE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ON THE ENGINE, THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE?
Did you ever find a solution for your Equinox?
I’m having this same problem as of right now I have a 2007 GMC Sierra
My 1500 started doing the same thing was told it was a speed sensor on the transmission or axles. I’ll do this first seems more logical to me
Yeah definitely at least try this before spending money on any type of sensors are parts unless you know that your throttle body sensor is out. It's basically just a flaw in the Electronic throttle System being so sensitive
Do I have to re program my throttle body
No but if you rotate it by hand it will put it into auto reset mode and will recalibrate it self on the next "start/ stop". Dont be afraid to rotate it after install before first start.
My truck is doing the same thing and I had put a new tps and it’s doing the same thing. What should I do next? Help?
Yo tengo el mismo problema que hiciste para arreglarlo ya le puso el TPS nuevo y sigue con lo mismo
Question does the truck started hoping when u was driving? And it was from the back or ?
No it was more like some kicks your foot of the gas... loss of power
Hi mine says service traction control on dashboard and I changed the sensor
Praying this will take care of it🙏
When it happened did the truck still idle perfectly with a dead gas pedal. I had to idle home a few blocks turtle speed
@@whowho7969 yes same
Maybe I'll try this was told last year after a cleaning I would probably need one I been think I'm needing a transmission
Would that work on my 2007 GMC Yukon I already spent $1000 or more I can’t keep blowing money on mechanics that think they know the problem I haven’t looked at my idle but I’ll clean it and check and dose any body else ever have a p0641 code problem if so please help me out
Having this s issue started this fall been going on now for a few months going to try this this week I’ll let u know how it goes
Good luck brother
After I replaced the throttle position sensor and got the clips on the was stiff and would not snap back. Is it a problem with the new sensor?
The flange.
Did you line up the throttle position sensor with the right direction to the peg that you were putting it on the piece inside of the little brass part on the throttle position sensor has a slot that has to be lined up with the arm on the throttle body
@@braaap5096 yes sir I did. I put everything back together and started it up and it ran fine. Problem solved. Thanks for the video really helpful...
Same thing with my 07 Escalade the same thing happened to me the last time it happened the motor turned of by it self on the middle of the road so. So yea it’s the orange triangle of death
Did you fix it I’m having the same problem already swapped a bunch of parts out
following
@@pedro-yl3vy did either of you find a fix cause that’s what mine is doing and i can’t figure it out
Same on a 09 escalade anyone solve this problem
do you remember where you purchased the new part from?
Auto zone
Did yours have a whine when you put it into gear and have trouble shifting when it went bad?
It definitely shifted and sounded like s*** when it went into that mode
@@braaap5096 yeah ours does too. I replaced the tps sensor but that didn't fix it. Now it has code p2138 so I'm assuming the motor in the throttle body is bad. Going to replace that with a used oem one. Hope that fixes her as she is the daily lol
So if you change the throttle positioning sensor That 1 is position sensor number one position sensor number 2 is attached to the back of your accelerator pedal worth a look🤷♂️ Is any difference in between signal one Signal 2 will cause that mode as well
@@braaap5096 yeah. I figured it out it was the wiring going into sensor #2 the pedal sensor
