Thank you Buckin’!!!!! I’ve been cutting firewood for a few years now and after watching this video I’m itching to get out to the woods again!! I went from filing with too small of a file and “C’s” to “gettin’ the gullet” and having nice ski jumps…don’t worry, I followed up with my raker gauge and got those dialed in!!! Thanks a million!!!!
Like everyone else is saying. Thanks for the detailed filing videos. I learn something new from every single one of these videos you make. It’s helped me a lot. Your videos are the only reason I can even sharpen an old saw and cut!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, your filing tutorials REALLY helped me out, seriously. I never get tired of these hand filing videos, keep it up and much love from the UK.
Why not try to place the video the other way… u can only see the top , why not the inside where u trying to sharpen… u keep saying u see that… u see that…??? What???
I can’t thank you enough for putting up these how to videos- they have been an immense help to me. Nice camera work - good clean clear shots - appreciate your good attitude - you are good people 😉
Even though I have watched UMPTEEN videos on you sharpening chains I am always enthralled by your ability to quickly sharpen a beat up chain. And in watching I have learned to sharpen my chains as well. So much so that I find myself using a hand file more than I do my Oregon grinder. Thanks Buckin'!
I think I learn something new in every one of these sharpening videos! In fact I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I said I didn’t! I have a long way to go but Buckin is there to guide us down the path to greatness! Thanks Buckin! Love ya brother ❤️💪🪓
Thank you again for sharing stuff with us. So many “experts” out there that should really just not speak on these subjects. Thanks for being the real deal. 😉
Best advice i can give someone starting to sharpen - DON'T WAIT TILL ITS DULL. Get it when it still has the right shape to it. Trains your eye and trains the feel of the file. Keep file in a straight line alignment to with your elbow.
Love the demonstration and explanation. Also the simplicity of just the file and no guides. Other than for the rakers. Thank you also Buckin for the demo on semi chisel chain. AWESOME. Love ya brother. 🌲❤️🌲👊🪓
Absolutely beautiful video in so many ways! The camera work was exquisite, and I could actually see the metal filings exiting as you pushed the file! I still remember some of the very earliest videos you did on filing technique, and I remember so much of what you were teaching then. I have learned to listen to the sound of the file as it cuts. I remember you talking about how with the first few passes, the file typically sounds very rough and bumpy, but at the end it's almost a whisper! Great teaching as always! Love you all...❤️❤️❤️ Lieutenant Bradley
There is great pleasure having a chain razor sharp, right down to the wear limit line. Great maintenance pays you back by giving you a big smile on your face. I live on the other side of the world to you Billy, in the uk, but I can’t argue with anything you say, keep it up, and thank you. 😘
There's just something about the way Buckin explains things it just clicks you know? And the time he spends getting the camera in just the perfect spot! And won't settle for anything less! Just right for all of us tree junkies😊 over N out from Indiana good day folks!
You deserve a handshake and a hug! Been watching your videos for quite a long time already and you taught me how to hand file round. I learned what square ground chain was from you, learned to square file a year ago and now bought a simington grinder a week ago. AMAZING everything you do! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
You would be proud of the chain I just hand filed. Shes a beauti! Square ground chain that had previously been round filed. Went through with a bevel file and oh man shes nasty. Still gotta follow up with the raker gauge. Cant wait to drop it in the wood. Love the content brother keep it coming!
Absolutely love your channel Bill.. I'm 60 and have found my peace cutting and bucking. Even quit drinking. My happy place is cutting big hardwoods and bucking and splitting.. Thank you for all you do
Thanks Billy. Getting into this tree stuff in my late 20s, got a lot to learn. Love your axe videos, hopefully I can get myself a nice axe someday. Thanks, from the UK
I tried the 3/16 file on my small saw today an man what a difference… my filing game has definitely gotten better since watching your videos.! Thank you buckin for the time you take to explain in detail.! The world is full of kind people and if you can’t find one then be one.!
you will not belive how much you had helped with all you vid's, from filling to cutting trees, being abel to do it right and not guessing is just amazing so thank you so much
Buckin’ I have learned so much already from watching your videos. You are a great teacher with true passion! I am watching one every night. Keep up the good work, keep inspiring others!
It’s crazy trying to follow this guy he’s all over the place Long as my way works for me and it does I’m sticking to it I don’t do this for a living thank god
Thank you b.b.r , keep up the good work !Took some time but I feel like I'm getting there. I was using a file guide before because free handing looked alot intimidating! with your videos it gave me the confidence to try and try over and over again . Was real funky in the beginning but now I feel like my chains are on par with stock . Sometimes they feel even better !
I am an amateur Sawyer I watch your videos all the time I been sawing for 25 year's and you show me things I never heard of that work. Thanks man please don't stop making videos. I mostly do it for fire wood but I also remove dangerous tree's from homes. I have no climbing gear but a sharp brain and wise tips like you provide are the best. I throwed away alot of good chain's because I thought they were done and if would have known good completely sideways with file to get that hook back I would have done what you showed me. I run a holtsforma 660 it's a beast. I bought it to make my own lumber. I live in WV tree's are everywhere. I ptefere soft wood but walnut and oak for fires ash stinks to me I don't know why. Thanks again. By the way you are one of the best sawyers I seen so far
I was looking through a lot of the other instruction videos and I was thinking to myself if I had all those gadgets I could sharpen the chainsaw too in a couple of minutes. But all I have with me in the bush is a file.. it was refreshing to see your straightforward video ...thanks guy from this gal.... Plan on checking back with you for a couple of other things...
I am just starting to sharpen my own chains and this guy seems to have the best videos and being new to this, I couldnt figure why some guys were so adamant about counting strokes and having teeth all the same size...it didn't make sense to me. All we're looking to do is sharpen the tooth right? So that why I'm here. Billy seems to know his stuff and his videos are helping alot of guys and dispelling some bad techniques from guys teaching bad or pointless techniques. This is the guy I'm choosing to take my saw advice from hands down. I just use my saws around the property and to cut some occasional firewood. It's nice to not have to pay to have my chains sharpened or buying new ones. I dont saw much but this is nice to know for sure. Thanks Billy
We have been harvesting dead and/or down national forest Pinyon in Nevada for 24 years. It’s at the 6000’ level and some of it can be big. Our record is two cords from one tree. Falling and maintaining a sharp chain was a mystery until you clarified the process…and I’m still learning. The 372 and I both thank you for the detailed and accurate methods you teach. Plus, it’s fun as heck and the family stays warm all winter. Win-win.
No matter how many videos I watched, I could not get the results to come close to what we've just watched. Then I finally found something that really made a big improvement - my glasses. Amazing how much sharper and consistent you can be when you can see. I should have known better...
I hear ya Steve, I don't yet regularly wear glasses but when filing chain I find it nearly as important as a good file. Keep it sharp and in the wood, Steve!
Started cutting wood oh way back about 1989-90. Took me a couple of years in the woods filing b4 i got it perfected. I agree 1000% that it takes time to learn how to get it exact. Anyone trying to learn keep up the practice and listen to what someone who does it regularly say or shows you. Great video love the close up shots. God bless.
Billy Ray it is so true such a great idea you don't have to flip your chainsaw just flip the angle of your hands such a wonderful tip and just like everybody else every video I learned something new from you even if you don't say it just by watching your hands... There is so much to learn from you.... Thank you my friend
This was so helpful. I've been felling and cutting my own firewood now for over 15 years. My first saw was a brand new MS250 with a blown piston that someone had at the end of their driveway to be thrown out (ran it without oil I guess). I learned a lot rebuilding that sucker! But I never had a good teacher on sharpening and have had to learn what I could on my own, but I've always felt handicapped by the stupid Stihl sharpening jig. As a woodworker that uses hand tools, sharpening is a huge part of my work, so see this was really an "ah ha!" For me to watch you do it this way. Now I can take my saw sharpening to another level. Thanks, Billy! You're a truly kind and generous soul! You videos are so uplifting and inspiring.
Thank you once again 🙂👍 you got me off my tuckous and got after the gullet.😁👍 I just went through my whole cleaning process and got a wick edge on my chain. I have some tree extractions I have to get after for fire wood for next season. Hard Maple 👍😁
What a great look at it. Opened my old eyes after years on a Saw. Im.off to sharpen my just sharpened saw!!!!! Im cutting Avocados big old ones which are easy cutting but to have my Saws that sharp is my NOW goal. Thanks Buckin. Always inspiring.
Love the intro Buckin! Great sharpening video :) Thanks for taking the time and effort to get the camera set up with such a good view, I know that takes time to dial it in this well. To me, one of the best ways to check if its sharp it to check on the inside of the tooth and make sure you have a polish on the edge, ideally the entire inside of the tooth with have a polish on it, and as buckin puts it, a nice C shape that starts at approximately 55 degrees.
Get the Gullet. For real brother. Thanks for doing what you do .I thank you for sharing your life experiences and knowledge with total strangers. People like you are inspiring to me. THANKS again for just being you.
Thanks a lot for your explaining and patience Billy Ray. Though you talk a lot ;) you've learned me a lot the past few days. I filed for years with a file guide on. When the chains worn out they didn't cut so good anymore. I checked the gullets and guess what, only 'ski slopes' and no C's. So I ditched the guide and I can actually see what I'm doing and getting really agressive chains. Keep up the good work and many thanks for your old school approach and tricks. Greetings from France.
Love you Buckin but not as much as my power saws!!!! Everything I know about power saws has come from people like you (mainly you!) on CZcams and now I can hand sharpen, have rebuilt saws, have fixed saws for other people and have my own little firewood business. I freakin love running power saws. Thanks man, peace and love
As Always Buckin you are good with the camera and explaining how to file saw chain . Most of all , I wish you and your family and everyone ❤ a vary happy Easter weekend. Give yer love ones a great big hug just because. LOVE WINS.
Thanks Buckin' I was doing some filing today on my Dolmar/Makita 7900. First chain, still learning. This helped quite a lot. I dropped about 15 trees the other day for a friend (working) who is building a house on a hill with plenty of gum trees on it. Medium sized, some dead, gum trees (100ft) the largest ones. I love the 7900, even though it's stock, it really has some balls. Keep up the good work, Cheers,

You have basically taught me how to sharpen a chain through your videos and it feels just like a best friend teaching me in person!

EXCELLENT teaching video, (that's from a retired teacher). Great work.
you have the best sharpening video I know of
Thanks Buckin' I was doing some filing today on my Dolmar/Makita 7900.
Keep up the good work,
Cheers,
Hey Billy, can’t get enough training. Even though I’ve ran a saw longer than you , nice to have someone point out my faults. enjoy your day 🇨🇦👍
The Bob Ross of chain filing 👍👍👍
im trying the file tomorrow! Thanks Billy.
Thanks man that was great camera work
Nice close up of filing Buck. Have a Happy Easter everyone.
Always enjoy these vids. My firewood bucking and cutting has dramatically improved over the last 5 years due to the great 'eye in the sky'. Cameras and angles may have changed but the message is still the same. Take yer time, keep learning and enjoy the art of being able to hand file a Power Saw 🔥💯💯

Been sharpening saws for three decades now and I still have to turn the saw around and lay it across my leg in the field. Buckin’ is right! Learn to use your left hand before you get too comfortable turning the saw around and you’ll be more efficient and your pants will definitely thank you for it!
WTF @ 10:54??? 😳🙄🧐😂 Laughing, and voices in the background? Crazy!
EXCELLENT and common sense sharpening video! Big thumbs up!!! 👍
Checked CZcams to see if I was sharpening my saw right. Your channel popped up. I am now about 50 videos down the rabbit hole. Great content! Thanks for being kind! Take care friend!
