his ult is not canon. in lore he cant use magic , he's just a really strong solider with really big armor.
The ability is called Demacian Justice, and the description says he calls on the Might of Demacia. Also, all his abilties are like that, Percerverence, Desicive Strike, Courage, and Jugment. They're all virtues (or action virtues), of Demacia.

Sylas' lore actually allowed us to figure out that petricite doesn't block magic it absorbs it allowing sylas to absorb magic and push it out. If it just inhibited it galio wouldn't exist

@@TheReZisTLust Bruh, that's a battery but downgraded. Petricite can react to almost all types of magic, solar batteries can only take in certain type of energy and it's heat. The marks don't work that way (as far as we know)

True, but I think Darius R has a higher HP threshold for the execute than Garen R. At least, that's what it's seemed like.

@@maddog_majima9553 Basically, yes- it's because it resets that makes it powerful over a long drawn out fight- but Garen has more upfront damage so it depends on who is playing the champion and how it is being played.
I personally just love how their kits mirror each other almost perfectly :
Garen passives: Bonus regen and bonus resistances
Darius Passives: A bleed and bonus AD
Garen actives: An AA reset that speeds him up, a spin over time that reduces enemy durability, a shield, a single target execute
Darius actives: An AA reset that slows enemies, an instantaneous spin that increases his own survivablity, armor penetration, a single target execute.

Honestly, it might be other way around. Noxus was built around Darius design-wise, and so was to certain extent Demacia. This is why are they so great in representation of their kingdoms, for they are founding stones for their culture.
Modern Noxus, yeah. But originally Noxus was way more evil and while they talked about strength their champions tended to be more of cunning, assassin sorts (Katarina and Talon came out before Darius). Even Darius was originally more of a ambitious soldier rising through the ranks through murdering his higher-ups.
Garen, on the other hand, was perfect representation of Demacia from day 1. Demacia was originally more good, it didn't have the whole hate for mages thing.
@@nebeskisrb7765 I honestly like the fact that Riot made Demacia and Noxus more nuanced, in a sense I think it is because of the different way our society views good and evil in entertainment nowadays compared to the past.

Ruination event showed that the corporate greed will take precedent over any lore consistency, so I'd rather have a wacky setting filled with tropes and character archetypes so I don't mind when Rito does something silly for the sake of money because it wasn't a serious setting to begin with.
Darius wants to extend the fight, he revels in it, while Garen wants to end it or take out a high priority target

Something else you neglected to mention when talking about endurance: Darius's ability usage is limited by mana. Garen's isn't.
Garen can theoretically stay in lane indefinitely as long as he can dodge a few skillshots.

In wild rift, garen and darius are similar except: darius is annoying in low rank but useless in high rank, whereas garen shreds even in challenger.
Not having potions makes Garen passive way more valueble. Its so funny to trade with rivens, lose the trade but than just wait for some seconds so your passive do the job and Riven has less and less HP
Couldn't agree with you more, I Maines Darius and have soo many games on him, but as I got into better lobbies and as he got nerfed, just switched to garen and having a good time, sure this boring, but winning I guess

Hi im rank 39 Garen na and I just wanna let you know that you did an amazing job with this video. Darius is my second main, sett is my third, I am mostly a juggernaut player, I think most of what u said is entirely correct I could tell you knew your stuff but theres only one thing I want to correct/cover. Regarding the mobility part, thanks to I am Sunlight (a garen main that recently hit challenger in NA), higher elo garen mains started taking ghost over ignite as this is what sunlight has been doing, and obv it provides better scaling. Because of this, Garen beats darius in terms of speed even harder but about the black cleaver thing, unfortunately black cleaver's movement speed got nerfed when stride got hit aswell, and we don't allways build cleaver (its probs more common in lower elos tbh i wouldnt be surprised), in fact I would say I find myself building cleaver only 1/5 of my games so it's very situational (im sure you know this). Other than that, very educated video thanks had a great time enjoying my food :D

Garden going full tank is one of the best counter for ranged tops on WF in my opinion. He still does a lot of damage going full tank and he survives so much

The one extra factor I've noticed in why Darius is more popular too, is because Darius's all in ability makes snowballing easier. A fed Darius is a lot scarier than a fed Garen, but on the flip side of things; a Darius that falls behind is useless, but a Garen that falls behind is still good at chonkiness and ult prio blow ups.
As a Garen and Darius main, I absolutely loved this video. I'm really exited for the next champion VS!

I just wanted to mention, you completely neglected to address the differences between the way both champs apply their armor shredding, with Garen's judgement shredding the targets armor directly after enough spins, potentially allowing his team to more effectively deal with a heavily armored frontline and Darius's penetration being purely a boost to his own damage through his apprehend passive, I know that this is indeed a small detail but I think covering all the little, lesser known factors/mechanics is also what makes these kinds of videos fun and interesting and is what always brings me back to your vids ^^

I just want to point out that darius ult imo is one of the best designed ults in the game. And yes while it is just a ton of dmg with resets the his kit fits perfectly with it. Your chasing the enemy irelia eventually she gets hit 5 times and then you split her in 2 while your moving at 500 ms hunting for your next victim. Its so good that his ult even has its own lore and some champions don't.
Also not only your enemies but your own minions become terrified as they watch someone being brutally ripped apart.

Honestly a great comparison here and I think it was pretty fair. The only thing I think worth mentioning in the teamfighting section on Garen is that if he can get 6 spins on a target (which is almost guaranteed because of how his spins scale) he reduces that target's armor by 25% for 6 seconds. It isn't going to sway the topic in his favor, but it's certainly a small amount of utility he brings to the table worth covering. Darius has a similar armor penetration on his E, but that only works for himself.

Alongside Black Cleaver, he can shred about 45% of the enemy armor, which helps a LOT when you have a heavy AD focused team, or when the enemy has several tanks.
Darius reliably builds cleaver which has comparable armor shred while Garen builds more tank

They feel almost the same when I play them,only difference is that garen can pull of things a Darius could only dream off in terms of constant bullshit

Full tank darius is hilariously slow and gets bursted by adcs,to get up 5 stacks you would need years.
Furthermore your ULT SCALES OF ATTACK DAMAGE,so it does next to no damage if you dont have any bruiser items.
Garen on the other hand builds full tank speed items and literally just shreds armor until he can R.
Darius is simply inferior because of the effort put in,you will int a whole lot more and die than a garen.
They take different levels and kinds of skill,garen is simply logically better than darius due to the lack of high counterplay.

@@rageixi1422 a good darius will destroy a good garen. and i build only triforce as bruiser item on darius and i 2 shot all adcs with a w r no ulti no 5 stacks. besides, he excels against engage supports, who just feed him the 5 stacks needed to 1v5. give darius ghost and hes a garen with 500 ad at 5 stacks and the hp of a tahm kench and a 45% hp heal on q if u hit multiple targets. garen is just q e w r, no outplay potential. a good darius can and will 1v5
if its not too much of a pain i would recommend making different trophies for each category just so its easier to see what round they won. But this was way better put together than the last one. cant wait for the next one

Petricite is actually petrified wood with magical channeling properties it is mostly used to stop magic flow but it can be used to channel magic like Galio(making him awake and be "alive") and Sylas(making him able to steal others magic and use as it's own)
I personally enjoy Garen more since his kit is more reliable (no missable skills no reliance hitting Q or getting stacks) plus the spin feels like a very iconic ability in any video game. On top of that garen has a lot of extra's in his kit like the slow cleanse on Q, the resist stacks on W and the armor shred, isolation dmge on E. His W is also very skill expressive and feels like using a fiora parry correctly to block cc, which is always really satisfying. I guess I like him more because I like tanks in general more but still. Also I like blue more than I do red and peace over war and the whole lore stuff. I just wish he was better in higher elo so I could see more streamers play him.

Something that would be useful would be a more explicit analysis as to how their kits influence their playstyles. Garen favours slow, patient and targeted actions. Darius favours all-out attack, pretty much at all times. One style resonates far more with the player base than the other, which is why Darius wins.
Personally, I like playing Garen more than Darius. But I like playing Tanks, and Garen is very close to being a Tank.

I don't quite get what's ironic in Sylas using petricite to cast magic.
It's like saying "Buckets are designed to hold water in them. Ironic how gardeners use them to pour it out." Petricite was made to hold the magic within, not to nullify or suck it in forever as a black hole, Sylas knows how to release it.
It's ironic because Demacian's use it to protect/block against magic but Sylas uses it to "cast" magic.

Something some dude mentioned on a video long time ago (I really don't remeber who) One characteristic Garen has, is that from the beginning, whether you are playing as or against him, you'll know who'll win the trade since the beginning, so you can avoid fighting if you know you'll get the short end of the stick.
On the other side, Darius has more skill expression and also a bit more counterplay only by the way his Q works, you can avoid so much damage and avoid him healing just by trying to stick to him as much as you can. I know that right now and since the Ghost-Nimbus Cloak Darius, with Trinity, his current playstyle is quite degenerate, but his overall kit design is pretty decent and I find it more enjoyable to both fight as or against than Garen's one.

Garen is anti mage because he was indoctrinated, though now he is conflicted but he still has to uphold what demacia expects of him whilst darius is determined on strength to assist noxus no matter what people think of him, as of now he has doubts in noxus due to the betrayal and loss of his lover and child because of noxus.
I like how they both mirror each other and although darius is the only one trying to change noxus (by weeding out corruption) I think garen will also follow suite by trying to change demacia as well.

isnt a finisher an execute and the “execute” vars is talking about called a “True execute”
urgot and pyke have the only true executes in the game. the other ults are basically ( if you have lower hp then the ability's dmg, you die and they get an effect)

Finisher is better as a "use after combo for best effectiveness" were as an execute will literally kill anyone if the execute condition is met no matter what else is going on
Playing darius feels like playing an actual heavy juggernaut. You pull the ennemies toward you and slay them with your big axe. Garen is sooo linear; Just running at someone and spining on him. Having literaly no dash or crowd control feels weird.

Are you going to choose characters for this series because there characters are similar, or there kits are similar? Like would a video be "Nasus vs Renekton" because they're top lane brothers? Or "Nasus vs Kayle" because there top lane scalers?
Galeforce is also sneaky good on Garen, especially if you're going attack speed for the bonus E damage after the 6th tick.

Personally I’ve always preferred Garen’s front-loaded burst play style. While it is certainly not as devastating as a max stack Darius, the setup is usually too frustrating for me versus the immediate burst from Garen’s kit. I know I am a noob for having this opinion but it is my own!

Team synergy: doesnt garen e lower armor for everyone? and the q silence is kinda synergie so carries cant flash or dash blink etc away
Darius also has CC, which is what Garen Q is, just Darius' is hard CC, effects multiple targets, and as he pointed out, gathers them for AoE abilties (how, and his E also stops dashes). Garen's E lowers armor, but that is very situational, and most people wil either be dead, or have a lot of armour and not care if Garen gets to spin on them five times (dosen't happen that often in team fights).
Garen is the jugernaut version of a duelist, he has limited usefulness in team fight which is why he usually takes ignite in top lane. Darius on the other hand takes Ghost, which is great in team fights.

Another proof that garen and darius is very similar is how two-sided the comment section is
Petracite does not nullify magic it absorbs magic that's why sylas can use the chains he absorbs magic then releases it later and why Galion can move as he is made of petracite he normally can't move unless in the presence of strong magics which he absorbs and uses as a life force of sort
They are just two rivals for the ending story of the lore, anime protagonists
In a different universe these two would be best buddies.
Garen got mobility as a pity price, so idk how accurate calling them equal is, but I appreciate the effort. Also, when it comes to burst, Garen's spin takes a while to complete, during which Darius can probably get 3 stacks of his passive so when they both ult it will be done with max hemorrhage stacks.
Personally I think "fun factor" should be at least a bonus category for tie breakers like this situation, as how fun a champion is definitely influences how well designed they are imo, and I don't think its a hot take to say that Darius is more fun than garen
The Winner and loser scoring is definatly better when putting two champions up against each other

- In the first argument of burst damage, darius still has burst namely from tri force. A tri force W on an adc easily takes off a fourth of their health. That with one auto and a Q puts them in R execute range if you're a bit fed. And for me, I run hail of blades darius which effectively makes me an assassin against the first person I target plus like the quickest possible noxian might (passive) proc.
Not to mention with noxian might proc, one q and r is all it takes to kill a squishy. Enemy jhin gone in 0.73 seconds.
-In terms of mobility, garen really wins. Against an enemy team with even a fraction of a brain and crowd control, playing without ghost is often times unplayable. Thats why wind soul is such a massive buff on darius. I usually do not build FoN or dead mans on darius, only in situational games. (usual build path tri force/boots first and second, steraks 3rd, visage 4th, deaths dance 5th, gargoyle 6th, usually take red pot but sometimes iron. Other items are situational).
I wouldn't objectively say darius is better than garen, but i can confidently say that darius is much more of a 1v9 type champion, and as I mentioned earlier, my build (steraks visage death's dance gargoyle's with like a 1.5k shield or so) doesn't lack durability either. Give mobility, some tenacity from runes and possibly boots, pretty insane durability, noxian might's insane AD bonus, and about 1.3k of ult true damage to EACH enemy champion, I'd say you have a pretty powerful champion with not all too many weaknesses. Of course when ghost is down I may feel about as effective as a hull breaker cannon minion, but that's besides the point.
Oh, you build gargoyles? Damn I haven't had a chance to build a 6th item the entirety of season 11, the games end too fast
@@ironboy3245 sometimes you can even go gargoyles 3rd or 4th if you really want to and get bursted down too quickly. Not something I really do though.
