Garen's ultimate is actually him calling on Kayle, the aspect of *_"JUSTICE!"_* Notice how Garen and Kayle are the only champions who summon golden swords from the heavens?
Although it is technically magic, due to Kayle being revered as a deity in Demacia it's acceptable for him to do that... It's possibly even considered an honor for him to be recognized as worthy by her.

    Just some quick lore facts!
The Mage revolt Sylas started would have succeeded in getting Mages more rights, however after Jarvan the Third gave the order to disband the mage seekers he was Assasinated by an unknown party. Jarvan the Fourth upon hearing of his fathers death, burnt the orders as he blamed Sylas' rebels for it. Later on Sylas would form an Alliance with the Winter's Claw, they'd aid his rebellion and he'd give them access to the Demacian countryside.
3 of the 4 demons in the game are known to plague Demacia in particular. Evelynn, Fiddlesticks, and Nocturne all go around preying on innocent Demacians, with Lux having to expel Nocturne and Vayne hunting down Evelynn for killing her Parents. Despite this, the only Demon with a canonical Region is Tahm Kench.

    Hey Vars,
Something else to consider is that because of the nature of how the champs are designed, Demacia has the most "starter" champs in the game. By that I mean, for a new player coming into League and wanting to learn the basics of the game, Demacian champs by and large are the best option for this. Want to learn how toplaners work? Garden for tanks, Fiora for skirmishers, Kayle for late game scaling. What about supports? Morg/Lux for mages, Galio for tanks, etc.
I think Demacia is the most "archetypal" region of Runeterra, even moreso than its counterpart, Noxus. This baseline simplicity however is more often than not used to its advantage.

    • @GreyGrim

fiora is far from beginner friendly, shes literally one of the most difficult champions to play, her gameplay is nothing like any other champion in the game and doesn't carry over to any other champion, unless youre maining fiora, she is never a good first pick up, garen however is a bruiser, not a tank( he can be built tank just like any other champion however) and does plenty of dmg and is pretty straight forward, fiora unlike what Vars is saying is the least 'demacian playstyle' that exists in the game

Off the top of my head, Zaun is definitely the beginner-friendly region. Mundo, Janna, Warwick and Singed work wonders to teach you the game properly (as in, positioning yourself in fights & on the map, along with focusing on your role). Twitch, Blitzcrank and Ekko teach you how to properly catch people off with setup, and Jinx, Viktor and Urgot are some of the simpler DPS champs in the game that'll teach you proper spacing/kiting (Viktor's pretty unforgiving though imo).

I think it was all right and a good way to shake things up, but it was too heavy handed for an attempt to make Demacia more "morally grey" by swinging too hard in the other direction. The fact that Vars' summary of their approach towards mages as "basically the holocaust" kinda goes to show that they went too far with it, as so long as that is the definition, none of the formerly good aligned characters can be seen as truly benevolent since they don't fight against that system. Instead of being "good characters with flaws" they just get flipped to evil because the system they support is no longer good. As a fan of heroes who are paragons, this change does not work for me.
You can see the inverse on Noxus, although it's a bit less extreme there. Pretty much all the objectively evil things (chemical weapons, child soldiers and other mass atrocities) got shoved onto Darkwill and the Black Rose, leading to the impression that now that Swain is in charge, everything is better now and there's nothing wrong with Noxus. The only bad thing that he has on his list is Rell and even that only counts because they had to mention in an obscure tweet that "he knew about the academy but did nothing" when everything else implies that he should have been opposed to it.

I honestly feel like it would be interesting to have an assassin from Demacia. It's a class that relies on dirty tricks and is usually full offensive, but it would be pretty cool as a kind of subversion of expectations, similarly to what Rell did with Noxus (which used to be a region without supports, and no, Swain doesn't count as one).
The only assassin that really defies the class would be Diana, who definitely has a bit of Demacia with her approach (but also the Targonian fantasy of that one big moment where you overcome and explode everything, which is also present in champs like Aphelios, Aurelion Sol and Pantheon). It would be pretty cool to see an assassin with an honest and a straightforward approach, while also having some protection. It could end up as a 200 years champion, but that's probably unavoidable with assassins anyway.

While I understand the point of that Demacia can be boring, I think a lot of it has to do with Riot just neglecting it as a region for so long. If I were given a couple hours, I could cook up an interesting champion or two for Demacia with no issues that adheres to the ideas and aspects of the region, and I'm just one dude with a barely functional chair. I think it's really just almost entirely based around that they don't want to make new Demacian champions, not that they can't, and as someone who loves Demacia that's a problem I've had to deal with for years.
I think at this point, Ionia has become much more boring, because it has very few rules and a huge bloat of champions nowadays. Demacia would actually force them to rein things back in a bit and make something more reasonable and easier to read and more satisfying to play against, but instead we get Xin Zhao's ultimate made into a Basic Ability.

    • @freshlymemed5680

I don't think they're necessarily neglecting regions, its just that they're mostly focusing on regions where events are happening. Ruination, Spirit Blossom, and the next 2 champs are from Zaun and Piltover which is probably because of the Arcane Hype.
I know they release champs like Samira, Sett, Aphelios, etc who sorta just exist and aren't tied to anything but with the current state Demacia is in they can't really just release a new champ with Demacian ties without having to progress the whole mage rebellion thing.

I just think they're neglecting Demacia out of a lack of care to make a champ from it, not a lack of capability. Also my back is gonna thank me when I finally get a chair in a couple weeks!

    • @SiMeGamer
      @SiMeGamer Před 2 lety

@@MajinMattPlays pretty sure their pipeline is planned for many, many months ahead. And maybe there is a Demacian champion there.
Also, I'd appreciate of you and others stop using the excuse of Riot being a billion dollar company as of that means anything. If you are a billion dollar corporation, it doesn't mean you can allocate all those billions towards whatever the fk you want. You need to look at growth and revenue margins, unavoidable expenses and the redistribute your assets to EVERYTHING you do. Riot can't just come and pay a billion dollars so that they can satisfy your Demacia champion craving. They have a plan. After each instance of the plan, they modify the pipeline. They invest a ton of the revenue into more projects or expanding current ones. Riot as a whole may be a billion dollar company, but the department in charge of champion design is probably not more than a few hundred thousand *a year* for the entire department. And you can't just pour money into it. It's a creative process. If you get too many people involved, you are likely to actually stifle creativity and productivity because too many ideas is a problem and laying for people to either do nothing or make it worse for the rest is a terrible investment.
Riot has INSANE standards. The push boundaries but they still adhere to a standard. You, some random player/enjoyer of Riot properties, have no idea how complex it is to make something both unique and cohesive, especially for a region that has so much developed lore (one of the downsides of having more fleshed out lore is that you make it harder to retcon and introduce characters that have potentially existed and altered the entire history of a region). You need to make a character that has lore that is meaningful, doesn't plat hole other characters and lore events, has a style that is consistent with the region and its history, a unique gameplay kit that feels good to play and you need to make the character attractive (attractive as in making people like them aesthetically, not necessarily make them beautiful). What I just outlined here is crazy complex and requires weeks of hard work from people who treat this as a job that they love. This is not something I think you or any one individual can do at the drop of a hat. Granted it's unfair to you since you don't have all the resources Riot has but that's also part of the point. Riot does put a lot into this. It's just that people want more Noxus champions and more Ionia champions and more Void champions and more monster champions and the Chinese want anime motherfkn looking champions and you need to balance all of this while coordinating it with countless departments. From art, to other games, to lore and media like Arcane, to technical limitation and legacy hardware support, not conflicting with other designs. This is millions upon millions of dollars and thousands of man hours of work. Money can only get you so far. You need a coordinated team and a coordinated system if you want to ship something good.
You may be able to design something in 20 minutes with a pen on a napkin and it will be good, but Riot doesn't go for good. It goes for exceptional. That's why they fail so much too, because they try to push as far as possible and sometimes it just falls flat. See Seraphine and how insane that campaign was. Nobody has ever done something like that in the history of video game development (probably for a gold reason). It ultimately was one of their worst things they ever released (mainly the method, aesthetic design and lore) but at least now they know. Same goes for the Ruination event that a lot of people who cared even a little bit, hated. I believe they are going to release a video addressing that specific event. Just for a single splash art, from start to finish, do you know how long it takes them to do it? It takes about a month. For a single digital drawing. Something many artists would argue they could do in a day or two. But that's the point. It takes a long time to do good sht. It's not just money. It's time. Creativity. Stuff you can use the billion dollar excuse for because even if they were a multi trillion dollar company, none of that would change. Some things just take time. I can promise you that something as amazing as Arcane was never going to be as good as it is but faster even if they poured 10 trillion dollars into it. Good things take time. A new Demacian champion will take time no matter how much money you put into it and there are other priorities probably over that, so it will be pushed that much further (maybe they will release Cithria at some point).
I don't like everything Riot does. I'm critical of them often, especially when it comes to PR. But one thing I can assure you - good is not good enough for them.
Don't use the excuse of a billion dollar company. It's an argent in bas faith because it doesn't address anything and assumes they have infinite money laying around for whatever your heart currently desires. It's unfair to basic economic principles. Sorry of this was a long rant. Writing it before I go to sleep. Hope you enjoy your future chair!
I'm a professional animator btw, which is why I find it important to stress that some things cannot be done faster no matter how much money you invest in them. Especially on the short term. That's why great things are usually done by people who care and not people with an infinite budget. Can't stress enough how bad scripts are for most Hollywood films despite being 200 million dollar projects. Has nothing to do with money. They have the money and they invest it. They just don't give a damn is all. Gn!

also demacia is both massive and most hospitable area to live in(there may be some social bias however the environment is unmatched in the entirety of runeterra , next to piltover and ionia for livability, however ionia is an island and cut off from the rest of the world which is good strategically for military if they can fight off enemies at the sea, its difficult to get reinforcements there which ionia seen during the noxus invasions , shadow isles and piltover both sh1t for obvious reasons, targon is a mountain.., shurima is sand and too hot, ixtal is too humid and a crazy forest with god knows what type of animals, rengar.
since demacia looks like it has luscious greenery , water source(not sure how open the borders are but I recall from watching poppy's lore she was traveling around and searching for the hammer wielder) and has a sea port with major trade routes amongst the rest of runeterra, many probably live there that wouldnt have otherwise(think of Demacia like the United States of runeterra where they want people to migrate to demacia 'legally' after having a major deep dive background check etc to see if theyre 'worthy')
because of said travel, seeing as though the only other options for people to go in that general area is noxus which is not a very welcoming place socially( because getting your head chopped off for looking at the wrong person and they have no or very little consequences for doing so, doesnt sound fun) and freljord which is not a very welcoming place environmentally(cause freezing conditions).
I would say though the majority of demacian characters are in fact less skill expressive, the minority of them like vayne and fiora do not make the rule over the majority of the less skill expressive champions.

At least noxus don't care who you are as long as you are powerful you can do anything. they believe in one thing and one thing alone power look at swain or daruis or even samira lore they all grow up poor but managed to reach hight places because of there straight
Now what I hate about demacia is there hypocrisy they say they are the place of justice and they have place for anyone yet they imprison and torture mages who there only " crime " is that they were born mages "that basically hittler ideology
