I’m new to food preservation, but this “ugly chicken” is so simple. This will be my first canning project.
I rewatched this video today and just was thinking how WONDERFUL that you two were kind enough to pick up 600# of chicken for all those people!! I think that is awesome!!
I can’t even imagine finding chicken for $.99/# right now! It would be so great!! I would indeed buy 100# easily!
What a gift you two are to so many! Thank you for inspiring us to all do better! 💗🥰😘
I ordered a supply of lids through your link & they shipped the next day. I've used 200+ lids & counting 0% failure!! Awesome!!
Awesome!!!
We stumbled upon boneless, skinless chicken breast for $1.49 a little over a week ago and were ecstatic enough, we changed our grocery buying plans. We've been running $2.99 to $3.99 per pound for boneless, skinless, chicken breasts.
Gotta grab it when you can!
Where??😊
@@joesandy1822 Winco....west coast
@@terryhenderson424 That was a pretty good special. I got into too and I did 40 pints.
@@357Addict We got 6 packages, broke them down into units of 2, and froze.
My hubs and I were super excited for the price you got on the chicken breast, thinking we would make that drive for it if we were you. Then on Tuesday we found that a local Hispanic grocery store was selling their chicken breast for $0.99! Praise God we had the money and the room so we have 160 lbs in our freezer and getting ready to be canned and froze! We are sharing some with our parents as well. Way better than the almost $3/lb price at Sam's and Aldi here in Wichita, Ks. Our ugly chicken stockpile needed replenishing and thank God we can take care of it now. ❤
The juice from that canned chicken would be perfect for soups and gravy’s
I laughed so hard seeing Phil driving with a pastel, fuzzy steering wheel! hahaha
He doesn't live it as much as I do haha
Hi Leisa, Thanks to you I've been canning for about a year now. My wife was initially resistant to the whole Idea of canning. But over the past 12 months she has appreciated the versatility of meal prep along with the HUGH time saved with the end result. She has done a 360 degree turn around and enjoys the role of a Sharp Bargain Hunter, all the while knowing that Canning is the route to Go! Tomorrow 20 lbs of Boneless/Skinless Chicken Breast ($1.29/lb) will be processed for our convenience and security that if a SHTF situation should occur we will be taken care of. Love the versatility of Ugly Chicken! Thanks for the postings and valuable teaching! Oh one thing before I leave, correction to the first sentence.... "We've been canning for about a year". Stack it to the rafters babe....
Stack it to the rafters! ❤️❤️
Everyone should be checking out all the stores they can get too. Don't be afraid of some you think are "fancy/expensive" everyone has deals - just have to keep a eye out. Congratulations on the Chicken 🥂
We need to be vigilant, or only takes a second.
@@SuttonsDaze Jars at the ready - Im going nuts this weekend
Yep. I go to Kroger which is frequently more pricey than my other stores but their sales usually make it equal or sometimes better. If you go around 9 am in my area you can get the mark downs. Steaks, stew beef, chicken, 2 days before the sell by date marked down significantly.
That is so incredibly awesome. I love this video so much and I already heard all about it but I love watching this and knowing how much fun you had to of had I would’ve loved to of been there and gotten that great deal so go Lisa and Phil.
I got a 40 pound box for 1.62. Froze 20 pounds, canned ugly and canned white chicken chili with with the rest. I’d be driving for 99 cents too!
Thank you Lisa what a great video. I have yet to find chicken breasts for a reasonable price this year and definitely not for 99 cents. However I must tell you how much I enjoyed this video. I feel inspired once again by your home economics.
You've got this! Thank you for the kind words
Never find deals
I always love how happy you are while canning! ...humming, we can along singing a song, side by side. Thanks for the vid and the smile.
You are so welcome!
So good to see you back in the kitchen Leisa. Very happy to see you recovering well.
Thank you
I just bought 80 pounds of thighs for 75 cents a pound. Deboned half and canned and vacuum packed the rest and froze! Good thing wifey likes chicken!
Score!!!
I knew you were talking about Freddie's as soon as you said "it's not worth the drive unless there's a good deal". We're the same way about it. Sometimes they have awesome deals but others, not so much. It's a 40 minute drive for us so it has to be worth it.
What a great time you two had driving to pick up your chicken. I bet your Angel says, "OH no, she is up. What is she going to do today?" LOL. I have learned so much from you---THANK YOU!!! Love, love, love having ugly chicken canned on my pantry shelf.
I was just speaking to my mom and learned that my niece and her husband and three kids are moving off the grid in Texas. I'm so proud of her choice. It's a whole lot of commitment to do this.
Awesome, info-packed video. I'm so happy for you to have gotten that great chicken price again this year. Yay!
Oh and im loving his recipes on thirsty Thursdays, great ideas !!!👍👍👍👍
Lisa, when I first saw you using ForJars lids and couldn't source other lids, I took your recommendation and ordered some. I have had no problems with them. Very happy. Thanks for the great advice.
You're welcome!
I ordered some and used your special secret-decoder code for the ten percent discount. They are wonderful! I haven’t had a failed seal yet, not even when I’ve over-filled the jars a bit.
Love love my forjars lids. No failures! Thanks for sharing your amazing chicken haul. 💜
Thank you Lesa for the how to and the fun run. Have a super day
I am so grateful you are the first person I learned how to cann from.
So fun to see you and Phil and am thrilled so many people got to share the fun of the sale!
It was fun!
Loving ugly chicken. Your demo is perfect & your explanation of process simple. Thank you for sharing. Be well.
Last weekend I was excited to find boneless, skinless chicken breasts and thighs at Costco for 1.99/lb. It’s usually 3.49/lb so I picked up over 50 lbs to can up.
Awesome!!!!! Have to get it while we can!
@@SuttonsDaze heck ya ! I’ve been picking up boneless skinless chicken breasts for 1.99 as much as I can afford ! I bought 4 more packs today to can after thanksgiving ! I also picked up three turkeys ! Gonna break them down and can them !
To me it's not ugly. It is beautiful future meals. Love you and Phil!!!
That's how I feel also. Food in jars on my shelf. Beautiful chicken!
Canned chicken is our favorite food I can. I never thought about it as ugly. It’s delicious!
"I'm not looking for an art project". LOL.
You are so entertaining, while teaching us good canning skills! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for this! I love ugly chicken. I’ve had a learning curve on the best way to prepare it in regular recipes, but now I have chicken beef and pork figured out. Thank you 😊
Great tips, I just canned my 1st Raw Pack Ugly Chicken last weekend & so glad I did it. Will do more again!
Oh I love watching you guys!
Thank you Leisa, it's so satisfying to see a load of ugly chicken that have all sealed and put on the shelf. Thank you for all that you do in the name of canning and organizing ideas.
I personally don’t mind the look of the chicken at all. 😉🥰 my very first batch of ugly chicken must of been a very juicy chicken. All the jars chicken was completely covered with it’s own broth. No siphoning. 👍
I thought I was the only one who saved things for loving, hugging and squeezing instead of using!
LOL, nothing comes between me and my Moms Mason jars
I love your how to teaching on ugly chicken I learn so much. Thankyou
Thank you!! I loved watching your video
Phil is great!!!
So happy for you both!!!
Go team chicken!!💖
Ugly chicken for the win!!
Leisa, Thank you for doing these videos, never gets old. I started using ForJars lids and have never looked back. I used the link in a previous video and received the before price increase price and bought some towels. I stocked up. Thank you for being such a great inspiration in the canning, prepping world!
I have a lot of the Mom jars. They were my granny’s & I treasure them! My other favorite is the Kerr jars- love a square jar. ❤ I’m glad to hear good reviews about the For Jars lids even though I don’t need them. Years ago when Big Lots carried the Golden Harvest lids and they were clearanced to .75/box I bought 4 flats of lids. It was my best pre-pandemic purchase. I’m still using them up!
This is such a fun video. I’m learning so much
So happy to see your video. Keep keeping on. So many people rely on your videos. I have been canning anything that will stand still.
Thank you!!!
Love me some ugly chicken! Thanks for getting me started years ago. So happy to have in my pantry🤗
Its so good!!!
I enjoyed watching you can your Mexican Beans! You were very thorough examining your beans. No one wants to chop down on a stone! Sounds very delicious! Thanks!
Great video Leisa!
I have a small local store like that and I go a few times over the summer and fall to stock up. What a fun date day!
You two crack me up and what a great find and resource we all can look for! I finally (think) restored my grandmothers canner. Now the test if it works…chicken chicken chicken!
I just received my four jar lids. I haven't used them yet. Can't wait to try them. Love watching your videos. Would love to get some chicken to can.
What an exciting trip, I enjoyed watching this. I love my ugly chicken. So nice to have like a little store in your house. Thank you for sharing. ✝️💟
I LOVE THAT! DO NOT MISTAKE BEAUTY FOR QUALITY! SO TRUE!😘
Another awesome video, Leisa! Of course, I have been loving your channel large for a minute here 😍
My taste with ugly chicken is to cut it up, tossing in a bit of granulated onion and Vietnamese mushroom seasoning, and then into their jars... Super umami, and can be used in all of my recipes👍
Thank you for the tip on Forjars canning lids
Dolly Parton chickens!...lol. I ordered 40lbs one time when it was a good deal & was the first time i canned Ugly Chicken before i even knew it had a name! & those were some HUGE chicken breasts!
Biggest for sure!
I absolutely adore you, you remind me of my mother so much. She had the same kind of blunt attitude you have. I miss her everyday, so I think I'm going to adopt you over CZcams.
Great buy!! I got some for $2.78 lb and it was a great price! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome thorough video !! Thank you so much for all your tips, tricks, and hard work !! Very much appreciated !! 🥰
Glad it was helpful!
This was awesome for you to do..I LOVE canning ugly chicken..my kids freak out looking at it but they sure do love to eat it!
That's all thar matters! ❤️
So very informative. Thank you
So nice of you guys to do that🥳
Oh darn. I thought we were gonna get to watch you can 600 lbs of chicken. 🤣
Thank you for these inspiring videos. I need to have my canner license tested and put that babe to use!
I love the steering wheel cover. Great job guys. Phil is the star of the show.
From this Michigander, thank you . I Saw a different video you did on ugly chicken. I finally got a pressure cooker :) and that/this for my 1st canning experience.
Thank you.
You've got this!!!
I always get so excited when I hear jars sealing! *pop* *pop* *pop* 🎉
I'm a newbee and already love your channel !
Welcome!!
I just found your videos and i love them. you are so calm and colleted, with a ton a valuable information. Rock on!! now i know how to can meat. Thanks so much! 💖💗
Welcome aboard!
Wow!!! Can't believe you could all that chicken at that price. I love the knife you're using.
I bought 4 sleeves of the "forjars" lids. They are great, only had 1 failure and that was my fault as there was a crack in the jar rim. Thank you for recommending them Leisa.
Upbeat positive attitude is nice. Thank you.
He is very recognisable!!! Love that I seen you and could stop and say HI!!
Gaylord!!!! It was great meeting you too!
So much fun watching this video! Watching you and Phil while you’re driving, my brain started singing Born To Be Wild, then slowed down to enjoy Into The Mystic. Lol. That’s what happens when you’re down with bronchitis and have too much time on your hands!
Into the mystic is one of my top 10 favorites!
Thank you for this video. I have been slowly convincing my husband that canning is a good thing. He has been very resistant about canning meat. I showed his this and he is totally on board with trying it now. Also I wanted to say that I think that Forjars has excellent customer service. I emailed them questioning about the lids being BPA free and they got back to me right away. I really appreciate that.
Your videos has given me confidence to use my pressure canner.
Wow! 99cents! I just got 100 pounds of boneless chicken breasts for 1.49. I thought that was a deal. Also got 50 pounds of chicken wings - $1/pd. Stock up!
I DID IT! it all turned out great first time. I'M HOOKED!!! just had to learn my canner and how it worked. They all sealed and no seepage. all sealed I can't wait to do something else now.
❤️❤️❤️
I bought an Avid Armor chamber vac and i love it. It was a game changer.
Thanks for good info. Already have 10lbs chicken breast. Will be doing this. Also seen your video on beef. Today I will be doing that canning. Thank you
I love canning ugly chicken easy to do - so versatile
Love forjars lids!!!
Thankyou so much for addressing the liquid or lack there of in Raw pack and hot pack.
Great Haul*👍 YAaas 🤩 get the lids by the case LOVE THEM***
New subscriber - just purchased 25# of chicken for 99 cents a pound. I am pressure canning some ugly chicken today for the first time. So glad I came across your channel. Thank you
Short and sweet! Thanks mouse toes!
Wonderful directions and video. I’m fairly new to canning and still a bit hesitant to can meat. Thanks for making it so straightforward!!
I got boneless skinless breast for 1.49 in Dec. canned about 50# of it and also made “soup” for chicken pot pies. Love having these “convenience foods” on my shelf!
Hello Liza, on Tuesday i made me second haul with the 20% discount booklet. I purchased for the maximum of 300.-€ and save 60.‐€. I canned 2 loads organic ugly chicken and beef. I 💚💗 the ugly chicken! Thank you so very much for yr videos. And the best thing i canned lately are figs in red wine! It tastes absolutely amazingly delicious on ice-cream🤣! Tomorrow i will can pumpkin soup and minzed beef in tomato sauce. Best regards from Austria Chrissy.
.99 a lb???? Leisa, I'd be loading up if I could find them at $2.50 a lb here in Crazy California! Also, I'm still adding a little liquid to my ugly chicken because I trim off ALL fat, including that little "y" in the breasts. So far, so good. As for Phil, Leisa.....you're turning your hub into a rock star! LOL!!! Have fun, you two, and stay safe. :)
I couldn’t stop giggling! I love to see Phil in your videos… especially with a unicorn fur steering wheel!
Oh my lordie those are mahoosive chicken breasts. They look really nice.
Liesa I am from the uk and am going to buy a canner and start my canning journey. You and others give me confidence to try this.thankyou
Thanks so much!
I knew it was Freddie’s!! Oh, how I miss my trips up North and hitting Freddie’s. I still follow on Facebook just to enjoy the deals y’all are getting.
The best!
I wish skills like canning and such were taught when I was newly married. Thanks for the info❤ Just ordered the knife.
Plucking along singing our song side by side😍😎❤️❤️
Hahaha, love it!
You two are definitely a Hoot!!
Thank you for naming that store. Going to check the sales every time I am going from the U.P. to Whittemore and back. It would be worth the slight detour.
Congrats that's an epic price you paid. I can't believe that price. I can't get anywhere near your price locally. You shamed me into organizing my freezers and I found a box of Zaycon chicken breasts I didn't know I had. Score! No freezer burn it's going into the menu rotation. TY for the kick in the butt to clean out my freezers.
Hi Leisa, I'm so happy that I found you because you sound like somebody who I could easily get along with. I'm impressed with the quantity that you're canning. I just finished watching your video on canning meatballs in spaghetti sauce and beef broth. I told my husband that I'm going to can meatballs. Maybe not that quantity, but I'll be saving that for January and February. It helps to heat the house too. In my big Presto pressure canner I can get 10 regular mouth jars on the bottom and 10 on the top. I get less in when I put wide mouth jars in the pressure canner. I just canned 2p pints of beef. I'm going to be up really late tonight peeling apples and making applesauce.
I just bought forjars. I’m getting ready for 5 projects of canning. Green beans, corn, nacho cheese, potatoes, tomato pasta sauce, I finished 24 pints of pinto beans and 7 pints of pizza sauce. I cut up a pork butt and canned it for future tamales. I will use some canned chicken for that also. So I’m in my happy place. I’m going to water bath all I can . I’ve never water bathed until this month of projects. I’ve never water bathed meat . I probably won’t. The Amish water bath meat for 3 hours and I’m in Florida. I don’t want that steam and heat in my house.
Great deal. Love my vacmaster vp215 chamber vac.
