I can't thank you enough for showing us the end result. I love watching canning videos, but you always see the end product of the jars just coming out of the canner. You never hear about what to expect with the texture or how it looks after it sits. So, thank you again. :) Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
This is like the best easy lunch ever. Drain, warm em up, toss with butter and salt. Perfect.
I love those old jars. I have some old Hattie Atlas jars I bought from an old man. He also sold me a dozen of old pink pints. He and his daughter were getting rid of canning jars. I wish I had bought more.
Just dug up 54 pounds of sweet potatoes 🍠 zone 9b/10a so excited to try these.... Can’t thank you enough for all the knowledge you provide in these pressure canning videos.
Oooh what a harvest!! Congrats!
Make sure to cure those before caning, but I'm sure you know that, nice harvest!
How to cure? And would you use the hot water that you blanched? Any nutritional value there? Thanks 😀
I canned a box of sweet potatoes
I love sweet potatoes and I have a bunch in storage. I need to stop watching CZcams and get busy canning those potatoes! They really are wonderful to have on the shelf. Thanks for reminding me I need to get busy!😊
I love to fix fried sweet potatoes they are so good
My recipe (NCHFP) said to blanch then peel. I assumed that was to only assist in removing the peel, also blanching them in pieces for 15 minutes would make them softer than blanching a whole potato for the same time. I personally didn't find them hard to peel raw....but that just me.
I dehydrated, after steam blanching, some sweet potatoes for the first time recently. To cook them I just dropped the slices into boiling water. They turned out just like if I'd cooked them from raw potatoes. Yummy, so easy and saved space. I will try finishing them in the brown sugar glaze next time.
I'm going to have to try this for hubby. He loves sweet potatoes. I'm not a big fan, so I'll do it for him.
Looks amazing . I also like to mash them up with butter and a well betten egg, some cinnamon , ginger , and brown sugar . Fry them like a potato cake .. gently turn them to brown both side . Serve sliced ham and some green beans.. heaven
Oh my gosh!!!! I am totally doing that tomorrow. Thank you!
@@SuttonsDaze you are welcome
Thank you for this great video! I got some huge sweet potatoes from my Mennonite neighbor. Now I know how to preserve them!
A blancher (which has an insert that is a strainer) for my blanching. Quick and easy.
I've been waiting for a good deal on sweet potatoes so I can do this! I love sweet potatoes and broccoli drizzled with sriracha. And yes, you're right...sweet potatoes end up soft regardless of how they're cooked. Having them on the shelf ready to eat really is a great prep. I used my Forjar lids for the first time this week. I bought the 1000 pack. I don't play around. 🤣🤣They're awesome!
Just was given 9 pounds of Sweet Potatoes today. Thank you for this learning experience....😀
Wonderful!
Candied Sweet Potatoes....a Thanksgiving and Christmas staple in my home since the 50's.
TY for showing how to prepare canned sweet potatoes. They hold so much liquid I couldn't figure out what to do w/them. Another YT showed how she hung up the sweet potatoes in cheesecloth and let it drain all the excess water off. Then she prepared them as usual in the oven. That helped too. There are so many of us who are new to canning that it helps to see how to actually use your canned pantry at mealtime.
Really wonderful! Thank you. I had to can up all my onions today too. My entire crop started going soft, so I got to work and ended up with 26 jars of onions. They turned out so nice, that I may just can next years crop as well!!!
I thought you weren't suppose to can onions. Is Mt old brain not thinking correctly?
Hello did you can onions with or without water?
@@godsgift3302 I pressure canned the onions in water.
Sweet potatoes are on sale about 1 mi from my house for 35 cents a pound. I am going to rack up on them. I will be canning sweet potatoes all weekend. I just used my last jar for some sweet potato casserole
Yum!
I could make a meal in just the sweet potatoes. YUMMY!!!
We dug up sixty pounds of sweet potatoes from our 2022 garden. They still look pretty good in the basement, but some are really big, and some really small. I'm working them up today to can and put on the shelf, and keeping out all the baking sized ones for me (hubby doesn't like sweet potatoes 🙄🤔. I'm wishing I had canned up my white potatoes because they were pretty small, and now they are all ready to plant!
I love sweet potatoes.
And a For jars text just showed up. On batch 2 canning and one more to go today.
I ❤️love❤️ sweet potatoes. It's just me so I bake individual sweet potatoes in my air fryer. I pressure canned some last Summer and so much of the liquid siphoned out I'm afraid to eat them, lol.
I canned sweet potatoes early fall. They are so good and I'm so glad I have them in my pantry
Me too!
I made these after watching, they looked great until I washed the jars, lol. I think I shook the jars too much. Some fell apart and became mushy in the jar. They don't look that appetizing but I'm still going to eat them, lesson learned.
Thank you soo much Leisa! I think I have enough to make 7 qts but was hesitant to get started because I read the directions and really didn’t want to boil with the skins on and peel. Ouch! Your video came at just the right time!
Thank you so much for all you do!!!!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving ❤️
I loooooove pressure canning my own sweet potatoes.
Me too!
Kroger's has sweet potatoes for .19 cents a lb! Next on my canning list. My dog loves sweet potatoes and they are good for them.
That process would be good for a casserole I make. 39 cent here, so would be well worth putting them in jars.
You inspired me. 17 jars just came out of the presto.
I love canning sweet potatoes but have suffered with peeling and handling hot potatoes. Will certainly be blanching cubes. 😄
So much easier
Planning to get some canned and dehydrated, they are 39 cents a pound here.
Awesome!
Thank you for this. I too, used to hate sweet potatoes but now they're my favorite. Also, your videos inspired me to learn canning two years ago and I even started my own channel.
I LOVE sweet potatoes! Let me at 'em! I want to can alot of them! have 10 lbs I want to can this weekend! Thank you for your fantastic videos!
I like sweet potatoes
I love my Jared up sweet potatoes! Yum…..
I love roasting them!!
I love it Jamie! 😊👏👏👏 we used to have peanut butter fudge at school 😁
I may have to can some. We love sweet potatoes. I usually cut mine into chunks, mix with coconut oil and cinnamon, then bake at 350 until soft.
Im going the market to get my sweet potatoes thanks for sharing 😍
Timing couldn't have been better on this video. I canned sweet potatoes for the first time this year and did not know they would be so mushy. I did put them in a casserol dish with the brown sugar and marshmallows for my Thanksgiving dinner. Well, everyone said they were good. I thought the taste was fine, but I would perfer them to be less mushy. Now that you have done this video I know how to prepare the sweet potatoes better. Thank you! Thank you!
I just cut up and blanched 3 gallon bags of sweet potatoes to freeze for roasting later. I have 11 pounds peeled and cut up to process in pints tomorrow. I love sweet potatoes! I am also going to take some of the canned ones that I have left from last year and dehydrate them for powder. I make all kinds of stuff with them, including pancakes.
Sounds great!
I just got a boat load of sweet potatoes for $.19 a pound. I was planning on dehydrating them but I think I will can 7 quarts as well.
Sweet potatoes are the best. I canned some a couple of years ago. I like your method. I recently got a bunch of sweet potatoes. This will happen on the weekend. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Phil.
I’m canning about 25 pounds of butternut squash this weekend, and I can them exactly like this, and sweet potatoes. I use a very light syrup of 10-1 water and brown sugar. We had a horrible crop of sweet potatoes this year, so I had to buy some, and 50 pounds of gold potatoes. But my butternut, and other squash like acorn, did excellent. I can’t wait for butternut soup this winter. I know you did this a year ago, but knowledge is timeless. Thank you, Leisa. (My next endeavor will be canning seasoned green beans and potatoes together, small batch. It’s not “approved” but the end product is great.)
I just bought a bunch of sweet potatoes at .39 a pound. Can't wait to can and eat mine.
Awesome!
I'll be canning some this weekend. And I'll try your way...but wouldn't they be great as sweet potato pancakes with butter and brown sugar? 😋 my mouth is watering. Thank you, you are a great inspiration to so many people. I just opened my first can of ugly chicken...omg it was awesome.
Bought sweet potatoes today at Wally World today for .17/pound! Video is perfectly timed 😊
Great price!!!
😲 That's an awesome price!
Whoa where🤯🤯
@@nikkinoos82 Walmart!
$.72 lb at our Walmart
I love it when you show what to do with what you can as well.
Thanks Lesa
I caned sweet potatoes from my garden for the first time this year. Can't wait to open them and give them a try.
Love it!
You inspire me! Your knowledge, enthusiasm & energy keeps me wanting to do more with everything Canning!!! TY Leisa
I can almost smell it through the screen. Yum ♡♡♡ Great demo on how to safely can sweet tatos. Be well.
They never used to get ugly. We canned for three generations and rings stayed the same and lids rarely failed.
Great information mamem!! But you make sweet potatoes sound good!
Super! Will purchase wide mouth lids for Black Friday sale; great to hear!
I also love love love them as much as I love mushrooms and cajun canned potatoes. I also just discovered Forjars and love them! Thanks for sharing!
Great video, Leisa! I love sweet potatoes, brown sugar Swerve, and the word “laborious”! Haha. I usually freeze my mashed sweet potatoes, but I’m going to can some this year. Thanks for the laughs, the excellent information, and all of your ideas.
Getting ready to can up a bunch of these today 🙂
I fry apples with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Easy
Thanks for sharing how you cook them! Try them with a drizzle of vanilla too.
Sweet potatoe casserole or sweet potato pie! Always on our table for holidays!
After glazing then deglaze with a little orange juice and then add pecans.
I love Sweet Potatoes!! I was able to get some locally grown & had some last night. So good.
Doing this tomorrow 🎉
I am looking for a sale on sweet potatoes. We love them, but never bake them to our liking. Thanks Leisa.
Quick trip has sweet potatoes for 39 cents a pound I gotsomeforthanksgiving and I am going back for more.i a going to cann a small batch to see if I like them that way. Thanks for the video lisa.
You're welcome!
I was just given 40 lbs of sweet potatoes and am using your video as a guide to can them up. I also will only use Forjar lids. I ordered some yesterday and used your code for a discount!!!
Wonderful!
Thank you for sharing. This is exactly how mine came out. I get so discouraged with the siphoning after I thought I did everything right.
I can my sweet potatoes the same way that you just did. I also have a little dog named Coco. Have a really blessed day ❤️🙏🐕🐕🐾
Awh ladybug I thought you was going to tell me how to stop them from being mushy but I'm still going to watch you anyway I love your videos thank you so much
Sweet potatoes are soft, no way around it
Happy Thanksgiving to you & Phil and family
Cannot wait to try those they look so good thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for showing us so many different ways to can. I’m like you I love sweet taters. Can’t wait to try these. Just started canning again it’s been 40 years I’m glad I found you because your matter of fact and back it up with facts!
Looks yummy, I eat sweet potatoes every day. But that is a new way I must try. Thanks bunches.
Hope you enjoy
Awesome! Our sweet potatoes are on sale for .47 so I’m excited to do this. About how many pounds are needed for 7 quarts? I didn’t look n the book yet to see the answer. Happy thanksgiving everyone
I did some last week! I followed the usda recipe to the letter! I thought they tasted great but the rest of my family hated it! Lol! I think the other two quarts I made will go into a pie.
I love shelf stable
Have you blanched and dehydrated them? What makes you can? Or do you prepare both?
@@diann546 they preferred the texture of the blanched and frozen sweet potatoes. I’m just trying to do shelf stable as much as possible. The dehydrated didn’t go over well either!
I need to can up some more..missed the sale last week on them. :( So many things you can do with them..one of my fav desserts is Sweet Potato Cobbler
Sounds delish!
I was just going to look for a recipe 😊perfect
Tada!
Thank you, Ma’am! Just bought 40# for $28 at the area orchard. Very excited to can. Much appreciated for the information!
THANK YOU so much appreciate your canning classes. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving
Thank you! You too ❤️
Thank you for all you do.
Thank you!
Great demonstration, I love sweet potatoes. TFS Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🥰👍

Just in time I got sweet potatoes for .19 cents a pound.Thank you for sharing this video ☺️
Great deal!
YES I LOVE IT ❣️
Leisa OMGOODNESS those look Amazing... I generally like my sweet potatoes on a more savory side but OMGOODNESS Gracious. Hope y'all had a Happy Thanksgiving 🙏 Kendra
Thank you lady…I really appreciate all your videos. I’ve learned so much. And, I feel like we could be friends. Really great video energy. Keep up the GREAT work. 👍😁
You are so welcome!
I don't know if you saw, but dame, watched someone can in the dishwasher 🤯I don't know if they were trolling - I hope so - that can't be out there in the world. Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving and thank you for sharing ❤
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours too
Dishwasher? And I thought "oven canning" was silly...
@@DamfinoFarm Made me wonder about the "people" who don't understand what the dishwasher does 🤢
You had my mouth watering while cooking them! Yum😃
I’m drooling at the end… now I wish I didn’t have 3 cases (120lb) of chicken coming to can, just so I can sweet potatoes instead…. Lol no I’m happy I found chicken breasts for $1.20 a lb!!!
Yummy 😋!
I have never blanched and I always add a little brown sugar
Approx how many pounds did the 6 quarts start as. Thanks
About 10
Those look yummy! I like adding some cinnamon/sugar (or brown sugar) to mine. And I have never eaten a "hard" sweet potato. Is that a thing? 🤔 Even baked, once peeled they are soft and "mushy". And so good!😋
You peel them before you cook them?? I guess either way works
Hello beautiful:). I found sweet potatoes for $0.39/lbs and bought 80 lbs !!! So excited ❤
what can you use them for?
Where I come from (Germany) this is not very popular so I never had them until I moved to the USA in 1998. I only had them 2-3 times so I am curious what I could do with them ❤
@Leisa QUESTION? Do you have to wait for the water to boil before timing the 15 mins to blanche them?
sweet potato pie
Love how you prepare the sweet potatoes!!! They look amazingly delicious. Do you think I can do this with a cushaw melon?
I'd check the ncfhfp
If you are used to using 4 sweet potato’s for a casserole how many quart jars would you use?
I truly don't know. It would depend on how you pack the jar
