Roger and Garp defeated Rocks, Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaido ( even if most of them were not in their primes its still mad impressive and they were considered the strongest crew of all time ). Garp is a top 5 character of all time.

That means he's got to be at least relative to him right. So you're saying that shanks kaido and or shiki are all relative to two one of Roger's equals. I just don't get it The story implies that Roger and garp were on equal footing so anyone who is above gaep has to be at least as strong if not stronger than Roger himself. And every one of those people all thinks Roger Is that guy. At a single one of them puts Roger on the same level as themselves They all put him above themselves for a fucking reason. People like KOL always put him very high in rankings just because he is their favourite character.
The truth is:
Sengoku stopped the war not Shanks.
BB ran away from Akainu just like he did against Shanks crew.
Kaido was stopped by Shanks because he was only with King against all Shanks crew.
Kid and Killer fought both Shanks and Kaido,but called Kaido the strongest pirate, not Shanks.
Mihawk is the world strongest swordsman, not Shanks.
Even being Kaido's list is not that cool, because he didn't put Shiki, Sengoku, Garp, they were on Roger lvl, but put Oden, because Kaido only mentioned people he fought or seriously clashed with.
I personally wouldn't put Shanks in top 10 strongest of all time until saw him fight.

I gotta disagree with Shanks over Prime Garp. Garp isn't even confirmed to have CoC and was still boxing with Roger on an even playing field.
His prestige is also much higher than Shanks to the point where folks like Whitebeard call him a legend and his standing as 'The Hero' is very similar in weight to Roger being 'Pirate King'

Fighting Garp and Sengoku 2v1 is impressive, but all it says is he fought them until half of Marineford was destroyed. For someone with a powerful devil fruit that allows him to fly and throw massive objects around, destroying half of an island isn't that impressive. Garp and Sengoku would struggle to get ahold of him. From what we know neither of them can fly. So Shiki is up in the sky throwing battleships at the island and Garp and Sengoku stop him and send him to Impel Down. Not top 5.

Why is it funny? What have you seen that proves Kaido is stronger than Shanks, and so definitively that it's "funny as hell" that he'd even put him in top 5? Kaido literally showed us his top 5 pirates, and Shanks was included, so he's clearly top tier.
Shiki is technically stronger as Garp's victories are only 2 v 1. Garp and Roger vs Xebec, Garp and Sengoku vs Shiki.

Here's the thing about shanks; he's probably weaker than Kaido, but his crew is the strongest pirate crew overall. I think that you cannot ignore the statement that "Kaido is likely the strongest one-on-one", and you can't ignore that they had an altrication with Shanks being the one at marineford by the end of it. At the same time, he is the only one who's crew is mentioned.
The real nail in the coffin though is Luffy and Roger, the pirates most similar to Shanks. They both have incredibly strong right hands that are comparable to themselves, and the rest of their crew is rather small but incredibly powerful fighters respectively. Though Luffy's is a bit smaller, the point still stands that they are all of a particular kind of pirate, and are not so far removed from their commanders/crew as Kaido and Big Mom are.
TL;DR Shanks doesn't need to beat the strongest creature to be cool, he might be stronger than Kaido but until we see him I refuse to assume that.
I highly doubt he's weaker than Kaido. Kaidos haki skills have been pretty disappointing.

KOL again with dumb logic. Let me debunk that Shiki MF argument:
Shiki never "required" both Garp and Sengoku at the same time. Their purpose was to subdue Shiki and minimize collateral dmg to MF. It was not to see who is stronger or more powerful but stop Shiki as soon as possible as there were many fodder marines too. Garp is known to be super destructive so Sengoku won't allow Garp to go alone. It just so happened to be a 2v1 and Shiki took an L..... even if Garp was 1v1 .....Shiki would loose.
Garp was Roger's equal, not Shiki. Now going by the "Old Era" portrayal....God Valley was basically a 2v3 situation .....Garp and Roger vs WB Shiki and Rocks..... and they won. Biggest L that Marco took in MF was a punch from Garp. Kizaru laser him while he was handcuffed with seastone prism while Akainu pushed him away displaying more physical strength than Marco but the Punch from Garp was enough for him to not fly again towards them.
Stop the cap KOL..... just because you don't like Garp doesn't mean he isn't top tier.

Shanks is being overrated here,lemme tell you why his feats wasn't as impressive:
-Him clashing with WB is only natural,he's a yonko
-Him stopping the war could be because of his connection with the gorosei,even if it's not the marines at that point just finished fighting an emperor, they're in no way in position to fight another one
-Him stopping Kaido was very impressive UNTIL you find out that Kaido's sole companion is king and shanks got his whole crew, it's only natural he'll be able to stop them.

It’s very interesting people are straight up making assumptions about the God Valley incident. That whole thing is still shrouded in mystery and we have ONLY been told the perspective of the marines, which wasn’t even Garp. I don’t think this whole incident is as cut n dry.

But 2-4 are interchangeable in my opinion and reason why i put Xebec at 5th is because i think his crew surpassed him as they are known as ‘Strongest Man’ and ‘Strongest Creature’. If people start talking about how Mihawk is the ‘Strongest Swordsman’ then I will let you know that i believe he and Shanks are same level but definitely in top 10.

Hi King, I've a question. What's preventing you from acknowledging Garp as one of the top five strongest One Piece character?
Kol power scaling is the most hilarious i swear 🤣
This is literally comedic Garp is played up as being a great legend on the level of Roger and Whitebeard. Yet you don’t have him in the top 5 but you put shanks in the top 5 all time when as far as we know he never captured the tittle world greatest swordsman meaning he didn’t defeat mihawk and he is rocking a permanent scar from BB and lost his arm to a sea king. You see how when you put what we know for both characters it doesn’t add up.
To everyone getting the jimmies hustled over the God valley incident, keep in mind that its EXTREMELY unlikely that it was Roger and Garp alone vs the entire Rocks crew, Roger most definitely had his crew join in (with the only characters lacking being Crockus and Oden) and maybe some CP0 agents backing up Garp, and given how often Kaido talks about betrayal amonsgt pirates its very safe to assume that some characters from that crew abandoned ship during the war, like Newgate(who showed clear dislike of his time on that crew) and Shiki(who downplayed the whole thing in chapter 0)
They SPECIFICALLY pointed out that it wasn't just garp and instead garp and Roger at god valley, now you're just outright ignoring what was said in the story for your own headcanon.

The bet on Kaido statement doesn’t matter, it’s just a statement of how people within the verse perceive Kaido. They think he’s some unstoppable monster who can’t be hurt. His actual title is just Kaido of the beast pirates go back and look at that page. Whitebeard, Mihawk, and Dragon have their titles in the box. The only other thing you could use to say Kaido is #1 if the vivre card which isn’t creditable bc databooks/vivre cards are mostly just the publisher’s interpretation of the Manga/Anime which is why sometimes they’re errors like Shanks being said to have became much earlier than he actually did, Sabo being stated dead before Dressrosa, Vista being on par with Mihawk, Whitebeard being the strongest before the great pirate era. I’ve seen the same thing in other series like one of Death Note’s saying Near is smarter than L even though Near literally said L is smarter than him

I randomly thought of something and it’s on Blackbeard wanting a 3rd devil fruit WHAT IF he wants Akainus DF not just a Cerberus type devil fruit, one of Akainus moves is HELLHOUND so it’s possible that like SHIKI he can make a sort of animal like beast with his DF and one of the most famous hellhounds known is Cerberus so what if the 3rd DF wants is Akainus, which also never gives Luffy closure for defeating Akainu and makes Blackbeard the number one villain
