  • Simply put, the XCAT boats are multi-hulls made of advanced carbon technology comprising of two outboard engines with upto 6,000cc of horse power and the minimum length allowed is 7.6 metres and a maximum of 10 metres. There is also a weight allowance with each boat enabled to be 1,755 kgs along with the stipulation that 110 kgs will be added per metre for boats longer than 7.5 mts. These boats are capable of touching speeds of 120mph with their V6 engines.
The reasons for this huge popularity are many, and prominent among these is the fact that XCAT racing is the most challenging, it has the largest international contingent, the biggest number of international teams competing and drivers in the world of powerboat racing from far-off Scandinavia to the USA and Australia.
In addition, the WPPA -- Promoters of the series -- ensure that they take in some of the most glamorous locations and venues on the globe, giving viewers a unique and entertaining experience during the season.

you will see as one pontoon rises up lifting that upside risen engine out of full water contact, when gravity settles the Other pontoon down, the boat begins to wobble. certainly in calm waters, having the engines so far apart will be stable. But sooner or later you will hit a wave and one side engine drive will connect to the water Before the other.
Centering the engine powers will reduce the dramatic difference.

Seems like a logical observation; however, prop placement in relation to the release surfaces of the sponsons (or pontoons as you call them) is critical for competitively efficient propeller aeration. Therefore, if the props are placed closer to the center of the boat, they will not be properly aerated. If you don't know what this means, think of a Jaccuzi with adjustable jets. Water pressure is the same but the power and velocity is increased with the amount of air that is mixed in as the knob is turned. These are finely tuned machines. I hope this helps?
      Have an awesome day!

@@doncunningham3124 the swansons (whatever) Agitate the water in front of the nosecones and cleavers (that's called cavitation) when prop blades travel through air bubbles. Whilst IN the Tunnel Zone the water is not disturbed.
I really dont know much about performance tunnel Hulls.
I swung a 3 blade cleaver on a ModVP Merc.
I never centered the engine on the transom plate (blade spin torque direction compensation. spinning the the right creates tons of drag even on a deep V. I had the hull shaved flat 6 ft from the nose cone, lower disturbed water to prop interference.
      Otherwise, dont know much.
boats are my life Stay frosty bro

This looks SO exciting - seems to be some folks who do not want this to be seen in the USA - like when Rupert M. bought my fav. network "SPEEDVISION" and stopped showing races like this to be 23 hour a day NASCAR - sad -
WHY? Because speed boat drivers like me have a new idea to run outboards on liquid Hydrogen and Oxygen to exhaust pure water AND - well this seems to be made secret because 6,000cc could give power peaks of 6,000hp - shhhh Arab sponsors DO NOT want to hear about this as they wreck the global economy dumping cheap crude oil!

      +Gordon Anderson lol...
We would love to hear more about the liquid hydrogen and oxygen concepts ;) Honestly, our sponsors have been the backbone of our success. Without them XCAT wouldn't have ever been possible, so thank you XDubai, Dubai Tourism, Dubai Duty Free & Emaar. You guys are absolutely amazing!
Oh, by the way Gordon, you can follow us on Nautica Channel and Fox Sports in the USA. Watch out!

Oh that I could affords cable again - yet - well to move ahead i Do remember the German accent of the man I showed a drawing of a super car I had sent to GM in 2006 (top speed 340 mph and exhasts pure water as do all my designs) just befre Merc. F1 changes to a hybrid design with a generator in the turbo shaft.. Long story short I would like to find investors to build a project called 'U-MONSTER -U' - flying unlimited hydro with so much horsepower it would not be legal in the USA since the power to weight ratio would classify ti as a weapon of war....
Also HOPE seems to have been made so super secret in the US that when candidate B. Obama made signs with HOPE on it the gov. made his campaign gather up and destroy all 2 million signs. It si so clod here this morn - I can not go on right now yet see my utube vids for a glimpse at Space Craft that would put any nation that happens to build them in the lead of the space race - AND set new speed records on land and water while testing the HOPE rockets in both 10k lbs and 80k lbs thrust class. and there is more. see problem is the more I send this pout looking for investment the more people "borrow" the technology and those trying to stop it come after me.

+XCAT Racing Oh - also I talked to multi championship racing team Seebold about a run at the world speed record on water. They were very impressed by the drawing of Project WOW - He told me his company would build it and modify an outboard if I could come up with 100,000 USD - now I see that was the tactic of making a condition they knew I could not meet and then feeling OK about stealing the designs - only for their best pilot, his son, to be nearly killed in a test flight gone wrong - Scaled Composits ought to hire me yet instead were bought out by a big aerospace firm, as is tradition. I have a tradition of safety and build it into every design from the start - and in thousands of hours of driving speed boats (sometimes in ways that are not legal anymore)have never had any injuries!
Can we get back to building boats now - in a country that welcomes innovation instead of making it deadly difficult?
