XCAT (short for Extreme Catamaran) is one of the most challenging and extreme powerboat series in the world with the largest international contingent and greatest number of teams competing at spectacular locations across the globe.
The Championship remains one of the most competitive and exciting competitions on the water, with speeds approaching 120 mph on a track as rough as any off road motorsport.
XCAT boats are catamaran made of advanced carbon technology with two outboard engines with 600 hp with up to 5,000cc.

In no other series you'll find an engine with as much failures as in Xcat. I'm no Mercury hater, they build a lot of great stuff . Just not the ROS 400.

you will see as one pontoon rises up lifting that upside risen engine out of full water contact, when gravity settles the Other pontoon down, the boat begins to wobble. certainly in calm waters, having the engines so far apart will be stable. But sooner or later you will hit a wave and one side engine drive will connect to the water Before the other. Centering the engine powers will reduce the dramatic difference.
Seems like a logical observation; however, prop placement in relation to the release surfaces of the sponsons (or pontoons as you call them) is critical for competitively efficient propeller aeration. Therefore, if the props are placed closer to the center of the boat, they will not be properly aerated. If you don't know what this means, think of a Jaccuzi with adjustable jets. Water pressure is the same but the power and velocity is increased with the amount of air that is mixed in as the knob is turned. These are finely tuned machines. I hope this helps? @@doncunningham3124 the swansons (whatever) Agitate the water in front of the nosecones and cleavers (that's called cavitation) when prop blades travel through air bubbles. Whilst IN the Tunnel Zone the water is not disturbed. I really dont know much about performance tunnel Hulls. I swung a 3 blade cleaver on a ModVP Merc. I never centered the engine on the transom plate (blade spin torque direction compensation. spinning the the right creates tons of drag even on a deep V. I had the hull shaved flat 6 ft from the nose cone, lower disturbed water to prop interference. Otherwise, dont know much. boats are my life Stay frosty bro

That's great coverage and commentary of the XCAT race, but unfortunate for the Australian teams and hope they are recovering and get back racing . The safety teams showed true professionalism and how seriously they they take their job keeping everyone safe. Cheers from down under.
