I once had a job in security where practically all the other employees smoked, but I didn't. We generally walked in pairs so when my partner went outside for a smoke, I'd accompany them. One day my boss, who was also a smoker, catches me outside with a smoker and asks why am I outside if I don't smoke; implying that I should be inside making the rounds, not outside with the smokers. I told him it was my "fresh air break" and asked him if he was punishing me for being a non-smoker. He never brought it up again.

Well we're gonna die early, we need the extra time.
It's not realy extra. At least every placed I worked, us smokers never took a standard break. Except for lunch. We would pop out for just a brief 2 to 3 minutes smoke. Then back in. For us it was just easier as well. Actually expecting 15 minutes uninterupted in the morning, and again in the afternoon just rarely happened. The occasional slow days ware we took longer was no different then none smokers spending an extra 5 to 10 minutes screwing around the internet. In the our boss didn't care either way as long the work got done.
Now on the flip side. The none smokers usaly got thier 15 minutes uninterrupted. They mostly remained at thier desk on whatever website they were wasting time on before thier break even started. Lol
@@williamallen7836 Same with most places I've worked. As long as the work is getting done nobody cares about a few minutes here and there. Of course, these were jobs where one person stepping out for a few minutes didn't affect anyone else's workload.

As a non-smoker, back when I did retail and restaurant work; I was always annoyed how the smokers could go off on multiple 10min breaks whenever they felt like it.
Then start smoking..oh..and mind ur business. Lol.
especially since it's pretty much the same as a junkie needing to go somewhere every hour for his next fix. Mindboggling.
I was a smoker. One of my jobs in the military that I was senior in the shift, I would tell my non-smokers that they were entitled to walk breaks. Because it really is an unfair practice.
And rightfully so if it is handled that way.
Nothing against a 5 minute break every hour or so. When I working in construction we did those breaks too, those who smocked usually got a coffee and a cig, while the non-smokers stayed with just a the coffee. Those breaks can really help with productivity as you are talking to each other usually anyway about what to do next and come refreshed back. And the smokers really hurry up to get to a new breakpoint for another smoke. ;-)
But if you can just go whenever and for 10 minutes for just a smoke, while everyone else is required to work … that just bad management.

This is a huge part of why I started when I was younger, worked a few jobs where non smokers did 90% of the hard work while only being 10% of the workforce. I recommend not using tobacco in general, its generally hard to stop, and the negative effects on your health can sneak up quick (less than two years). That aside, great sketch as always!!
Sounds like fan fiction. Basic math and knowing how company runs tells me your numbers are fantasy rant. Was it a family restaurant cuz only stuff of that nature would make sense of what you said. Smoking is bad for the health no argument there but it doesnt make people lazy.

at my work we all have "Tea breaks" that's when smokers have their smokes & non smokers have a cup of tea or coffee (usually with a few biscuits)

i used to work as a pizza delivery driver and didn’t smoke cigs, and my coworkers would always get to go smoke outside in the nice weather. i complained to my manager and he actually let me just go outside to hang out every once in a while, even though i don’t smoke. pretty nice!
This is precisely how I began smoking. Damn it. I actually was coming back in from a "smoke break" before I started smoking when the boss pointed out that he didn't think I smoked. I pointed out that I didn't, I just went for a break with the smokers & took the same break they did. He wasn't prepared, but realised it was fair enough. But because I hung out with them so much and they kept offering me ciggies, I gave in. One of the dumbest things I've done (the smoking, not the breaks).
Just pointing this out Alan is being very patient with Rowan, now we know he still actually has the white shirt he can just take the store for himself at any moment but decides not to. Maybe because he hasn't perfectly controlled it yet but Rowan is forgetting that Alan has the white shirt, and it might come and bite him in his behind at any moment.

After the Karen 2 episode, Alan became aware that he can't use the power of the white shirt willy-nilly.
I want this story line so so so bad!
I think that the bored series is actually a multiverse. We have Universe 0 where Alan and Rowan are "Bros" to each other, we have Universe 1 where Rowan is just nad manager, we have Universe 2 where Bryan exists, in Universe 3 Rowan is the great manager that always finds a solution to problem, in Universe 4 they are animated and at the end there is Universe where the white shirt saga is taking place. That's why these episodes are not always coherent.
And of course there is also "Azerimverse"...
Haven't even finished watching, and I need to say the scenario of being told to swap things from one identical shelf to another for no reason other than that the boss wants you to is 100% realistic, happens all the time.
Usually it's when Corporate, aka the guys/girls who don't work for a living, take a photo of their "ideal" storage setup, and send it out to every store in the chain.
Whether your boss handles it well or not is up to the person. In this case, all Rowan had to say when they ask why is: "Corporate", and everyone would be on the same page.
Except we all know it wasn't corporate. It was just Rowan being Rowan.

That’s when you go over their head and report the stupidity to their boss. It’s usually the lower management corporate types that has people do pointless stuff, because they want that “I’m the boss” feel.
Completely unrelated, yet still related... I worked IT at a chemical plant, so I had access to pretty much everywhere. It's a dangerous place, so I happily followed all the PPE and safety rules. Until on day, a lady who was trying to climb the corporate ladder decided it was time to change the safety rules for her building. Instead of signing in with the control room which was the norm, she wanted us to have a full time escort while in her buildings. She was a boss and I was a contractor, but I flat out told her no. In fact, WE were the ones who would escort guests at the site (for things like equipment installs) so to imply that we somehow would suddenly need an escort was laughable. To top it all off, *it was an office environment* where the most dangerous thing was the automatic pencil sharpener. Long story short, after much back and forth the site lead was called. He instantly took our side.
Such a considerate manager he is.
I'm convinced at this point that Ellie, Adam, and Alan are actually in purgatory, and Rowan is their personal demon tormentor.

Every time I watch this video, I can't help but think how generous Rowan is in giving both Alan and Ellie cartons of cigarettes as a reward for their hard work, and urging them to "fill their boots." Such a kind man and rewarding manager.
To be fair it's a real problem in a lot of workplaces. You get breaks, usually a ten every 4 hours and a 30 every 5 depending on State and company rules. Yet smokers, especially Managers just take extra breaks any time they feel like it on top of those breaks to go smoke.
Yes. I have worked several places and it always pisses me off to know end that smokers get like 4 extra breaks yet I get yelled at for going to the bathroom a little more then normal.

I once got in trouble for having 5-10 min over my lunch break due to traffic getting back to the office by my smoking supervisor and I'm like "you take 4 extra 10 min breaks every day to smoke and you going to get up me for having a slightly longer lunch break once?"
I just walked past her and got back to work..
She ended up "leaving" a few months later..
@@5punkybob Yup and they know it too. Most smokers won't smoke on their acutal breaks. They rather take them on paid "Free breaks". It's even worse if you work in something like an office building or an indoor mall. Some times it can take them a good 5 minutes or more just to get outside the building to an area they can smoke at.
This leads to "Smoke breaks" taking a good 15-30 minutes at times.

Literally in the Navy they'd give smokers 15mins every hour to go smoke in my squadron. I worked 12-16 hour shifts. The time adds up it really does like 2-3 hours (I think)of not working during the whole shift. I didn't smoke at all when I first got into the Navy. I asked my chief for a fresh air break I'd just go stand out away from the smokers for the same amount of time. He laughed in my face and said get back to work. The next day I came to work with a pack of cigarettes and picked up smoking

Yeah i didn't think so. Adam was the first one to realize this which is why he has made peace with his dreadful existence whilst getting paid nothing, he once won a million dollar lottery but couldn't walk out with it, actually quited but was denied, quite literally died but he was revived on his funeral because you can't get out of your own free will.
For those that are still clueless, Rowan always wins and gets what he wants, one way or the other. Ellie plays along and is rewarded where as Alan is the only one who is defiant and tries to reason. Little does he know that they are all dead long ago and are serving Rowan in hell. It is very dark and interesting fan theory but still a very good one at that. I wonder if one day one of them breaks the endless cycle.

Former smoker here. Around the time I quit smoking, I became a manager and I noticed how unfair it was for nonsmokers. Smokers tended to take a 10-15 minute break every hour. That meant non-smokers were cheated of 2+ hours of extra break time. Plus, they had to cover the slack. So I made it to where they could only get a couple 10 min breaks. Managers, think about your nonsmokers (like poor Adam) if you allow smoke breaks!
The fun part is Adam is a smoker. If you saw the video where he came to work in a motorbike, he had leather jacket, a girlfriend and a cigaret with him to work 😅

I call bullshit. What really happened at your place is you had lazy people trying to skip work and it didnt rly matter if they smoked or not. After 2 hours of work sure i`ll get outside for 5-7 minutes to smoke one. But guess what my colleague who doesnt smoke will go for water , making tea , eating snacks or just fiddle on his phone while staying at the desk during the 2 hours i worked to get ahead with the task so i can have those 5-7 minutes of peace. Not allowing these small breaks that are not in the schedule is corporative crap. Wasting time on the phone from employees actually takes away more of their work time if you ask me. So why not collect their phones and say no phones , no piss breaks , no smoking you just work. So you had to deal with lazy people but saying is cuz they were smokers yeah i wouldnt get a guy with that mentality as my manager.
Tbh break schedules are only good for jobs where you just need to be there and be active. Jobs where you have to self manage tasks and actually output productivity don't need break schedules, they need performance expectations and consistent, fair, oversight. People have various needs for their productivity, and some people work best in short bursts, some in longer bursts, etc. As long as they are outputting at expected levels across the day, everyone should be able to manage their own schedules and it should be down to the *manager* or *supervisor* to *manage* and *supervise* productivity outputs and keep people honest.
If you really were a smoker, you would know that math doesn’t add up. A cigarette takes less than 5 mins to smoke. And your average smoker doesn’t need a smoke literally every hour of the day. Sounds like you had a bunch of slackers. If they quit smoking too, I bet you would see a lot more “bathroom breaks”.
I've had coworkers who complained that smokers got more breaks(old food industry job) I just told em to lie like this.
But a carton of smokes is like $110 where I live. That'd be one hell of a gift.

I was a smoker for 15 years. I got a data entry job when I first went to college. Absolutely awful job. No one there was happy so me and the other smokers would take a cigarette break almost every ten minutes. Lo and behold, almost everyone seemed to smoke there too! People who would just hold the lit cigarettes just to get outside and away from work. At one point, in this facility with over 300 people “working,” there would be between 20-50 people out there “smoking” at any given time.
“Why didn’t management stop you?”
Management contributed at least 10 of those smokers. 🤣

At this point I think we need to pull out the rusted ladder of doom. You know the one, every work place has it. A cracked and broken piece of junk the company expects you to use while doing shelving work. You have to have slip resistant steel toe shoes for "safety". But their ladder can be made in the 1950's.

Why I started smoking.
At McDonald’s and the pub I worked at this was the case, but in the NHS and in the laboratory I work in, it isn’t. Your breaks are scheduled and you can’t really take them earlier; a toilet break though? Perfectly fine.
Never worked at a place that allowed smoke breaks. At a retail one years ago, we had a new employee, when she found out there are no smoke breaks, she walked out and never returned.

Was the case in one place i worked. Eventually us non smokers just took equivalent non smoking, or mental health, breaks because the smokers always went for their breaks during the hard work.
