As a person with back problems I am so glad to have an automatic option. Some days I just cant push in the clutch with my left leg.
Thats what my father said, He is 51 and he had his back injuried bad in the military, Its a very comfy car for him and he has been screaming through town with it
I mean honestly new cars clutches aren’t really bad as cars in the 80’s. Recently got a chance to own a manual 335 and I have to say it’s way easier on the back to drive than my 90 Miata.
i had back issue too.. i wish i could drive such sport sedan.. but i settled down with SUV ... (due to higher seat and lesser pressure to your back)
@@v8_sami Gear box etc same as my 2017 GT86 and I can tell you GR86 clutch bite is very low, so would probably not be good for back issues, it also jerks until a bit of oil travelling through it after 5-10 mins.
I am worried about back issues with just how stiff the ride might be.
As a person with knee problems I’m happy with the 86 with an auto :), don’t let the auto scare you! Even if you don’t want a manual for other reasons, the auto isn’t bad! Don’t let other’s gatekeeping make you self conscious
I don't believe it's gatekeeping really. There are simply better options with a DCT for the same price if you cannot or chose not to row your own gears. VW and Kia/Hyundai offer similarly priced performance models with significantly improved shifting characteristics.
@@Blackdawn80 maybe “gatekeeping” is the wrong term haha but I’ve seen so many new buyers ridiculed for buying an automatic 86 chassis and it feels very disheartening to the car community. That being said, I have also seen some “autos are better than manual” people and they equally make me frustrated.
@@FeistyPineapple I personally feel a car like the 86 benefits from a manual. My brother had a 1st gen when they first launched with the 6M. It’s a shame the engine tuning and gearing were so frustrating. It looks like this one has all the right updates by Toyota and Subaru.
@@Blackdawn80 oh yeah! By all means its definitely a better experience in a manual! But if a person (such as myself) who has a knee issue or someone who simply prefers an auto in the 86 due to living in a metropolitan area then they should still get one :).
@@Blackdawn80 it’s like getting 7-8/10ths the fun still ^_^ so I highly recommend it!
As a person who enjoys the automatic option, I am so glad we've got the automatic option
Yeah me to… I grew up with manual, don’t understand the fuss
Is good to have automatic, especially when you live in place that gets car traffic all the time.
@@juicybullfrog I have mouthbreathers preach at me about manual all the time.
I live alone. I only want one car. It will be an auto/synergy drive, because I sit in traffic at least several hours a week.
"Durr, if you liked driving, you'd get a manual."
Oh, yes excuse me while I jump on my Ducati and tear up a mountain on the weekend while you shift your riced out econobox on the way to Dave and Busters.
Use the right tool for the job.
@@aluisious lmao
@@aluisious It's obvious you're still self-conscious about not driving manual.
I like how they made the auto look like a manual 😁
As a person with back, knee, and brain problems I am so glad to have an automatic option. Some days I just can't be bothered to have my left foot rest. Don't let other people embarrass you for having this model :)
The comments chain here 😅
I...CAN'T... SNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED

Lady practically gave you a one way ticket to an upgrade lmao.
As a person with wrist problems I am very glad this has an automatic version. My wrist can finally have a rest
As a person with back, knee, brain, wrist, and elbow problems, I am so glad to have an automatic option. Some days all the pain adds up
Dude it's a wonder you are still alive with that many problems lol
🤣💀
I once had so many edibles that I was watching Sophie D videos and Sophie D came out of the screen and gave me the GWAK GWAK 5000 and I BUSTED LORD HAVE MERCY WHAT A SATISFYING EXPERIENCE THAT WAS WOULD RECOMMEND
I am SO glad I ordered mine in this colour and not in black. It just looks FIRE!
Love that blue colour very cool👍 the gr86 is looking amazing and i think it's going to be a lot of fun to drive. it's going to put a big smile on many people faces.toyota is bringing the fun back to their cars
My absolute affordable dream car. That blue is stunning
The older model i was all in the BRZ. But the new 2.4 one i have to say Toyota is winning me over. Interior, exterior and suspension tuning was all done better at the GR86s this time (imo)
Facts
Good points but the suspension tuning doesn’t matter too much if you’re gonna throw coil overs or bags on anyway
Have pre-ordered the manual BRZ but was only able to test drive the auto and it was still great, definitely still an upgrade from the previous generation.
You can see in the rear view mirror @ 18:13 that the old man admires the car cause he even turns around to look at it again
I wondered if anyone else noticed that.
I can’t wait. Looking forward to driving mines.
Loved the balanced opinions as always.
as a person with problems, i am so glad they offered a automatic option
I was waiting for this review!!
SOOO EXCITED!!! Just purchased a 2023 86 Premium Toyota Red manual!!! Comes in next week!!! Manuals are sold before they even show up at the dealer but not today!!!! I FINALLY got one!!!😮💨😮💨😮💨❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Wish you could add pics on here. Mad I didn’t get to test drive it but OMG can’t wait to see it! Not even 3 miles on it (they said). Traded in my 2015 Blue FR-S…hate to see her go but love to see her replaced!! 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️
As a person with no eyes, I’m glad they made an automatic option 😊
As a young guy who has no clue how to drive a manual, this car seems perfect for me
Bro learn and get the manual you will thank me one day. You will have more fun with a manual tractor then a automatic car
Get a cheap old car that’s manual and just learn. You’ll thank yourself. Driving automatic seems so soulless once you learn manual.
Don't listen to the nobodies who think they are special because they drive manual. Manual is garbage and extremely overrated (in the US). EVERYONE, literally EVERYONE in Europe drives manual, and it is trash, the only reason we don't get autos is they are more expensive to buy and maintain.
As a person with problems I am so glad to have an automatic option. Sometimes the manual is just problematic.
Thank you for the video ❤️❤️
Toyota really has been stepping up their game with gr86, gr yaris and gr corolla!
Wow the Sound is very beautiful
Nice Omega Speedmaster! Also, great review!
I love that the car is so awesome to modify; about to make this beast into something you see only in the Fast and Furious movies lol
The color is beautiful and I actually really like the taillights. It reminds of the the latest gen NSX. Glad to hear they've improved the automatic version. That's always been the downside of these cars if you didn't opt for a manual.
Right? I love Honda / Acura but after this new Integra debut I’m looking the 86 now :)
That dashboard is AMAZING.
Ppl hate on the automatic versions of these cars too much. Not everyone knows how to drive stick or live in congested areas where an automatic is more ideal
The point is you have no business in a sports car if you don’t know how to drive one. Automatic is not real driving
This is a true sports car! Finally! A car that champions driving experience over just horsepower or initial acceleration 😩 a real enthusiastic sports vehicle!
Thanks for the great review. Would love a manual butanual labor took it's toll on me and can't do long drives with a manual thanks to knee issues. Nice work, thanks again.
I think those gear changes are pretty exciting and pretty perfect personally….
my first car was a Tercel MT, then I got an '01 NB MT which was soo much fun to drive. Life and priorities changed and now I have a '17 Mazda3 Sedan AT. Love the Mazda3, but I do miss the feel of a sports car. I'd love to own a GR86 one day, maybe an AT since I'm a travelling classical musician that is always caught in a lot of traffic. Nice to see the AT does come with paddle shifters
Can't wait to get mine in 6 months
Awesome vid! 👌
front end looks better then the new Z. GR86 looks great all around.
as someone who’s stuck in traffic this option is the way to for me 🤘🏼
i commute throughout los angeles i can't picture it doing manual
@@zuhleratell me about , drive to Irvine everyday in bumper to bumper traffic
@@santiBMTH11 yeah the 405 on a friday night or weekend night when there's events is down bad, i don't think a manual is good for people who cut me off all the time and being in gear
Beautiful car and nice review. Just wish you could buy one, or anything similar, w/o a big markup and having to wait.
That’s what I have in Neptune blue. No regrets!
I’m definitely going to get this car in around a month or two
Im sure 90% of people who buy this car will go for the manuel but it is nice to see the review of the automatic. Im a car enthusiast so I do prefer a manual however having an automatic in a sports car isnt a bad thing either. Hense Supra. I mean its about the steering and driving quality and how it moves you on a turn or a corner. Sure a manual makes you feel how the tranmission is working but to be an auto can make you feel awesome too on a turn.
Going to see one tomorrow 😌
this is 1 of my dream cars
Am 70 years old hate manual cars automatic is for me it's a pleasure to drive all the time
If you don't know how to drive a manual, don't be scared, it's super easy to learn. I bought my first manual, having never driven one before.
As someone who daily drives a manual, has a motorcycle and who spends an unhealthy amount of time on a racing sim rig. If the paddle shifter is responsive enough, I'll take it over a manual especially when all I want to do with it is drive curvy roads. Though, because you're now more focused on driving rather than shifting, you'll tend to drive faster into corners potentially entering corners too fast.
As a person not buying this car, I’m glad they have an automatic option
God this looks so nice
Gorgeous!
I’m 23 and own a 2023 auto premium, All I can say is I love the damn thing. I don’t care about impressing anyone to smart for that
I own a 22 BRZ Auto. I've autocrossed it with no upgrades and have beaten locals with manual GR86's after 2 seasons. No one can convince me I'm not having fun or missing out on a thing.
Yet, you have an incorrect spelling...
people saying they happy they got an auto version as if 99% of cars aren't auto I'm glad it has both options for everyone
I guess the harder you break.. the harder the downshift. Someone reviewing on CZcams was displaying it.. its pretty cool.
I test drive the automatic today and it's fast af
As a person person I’m glade they put a automatic version
What a beautiful blue color..
Definitely getting an automatic just as a daily since I’m already working on my s197 mustang gt
I was planning on buying a manual 86 very soon as my Tacoma is almost payed off, but now I'm kinda considering an auto
My hachi roku had a bug. 180 miles on ODO 2023. Psi on one tire reads 11 with warnings. Should be able to see with the naked eye. But it looks good. Feels solid like the other tires. Will need to recalibrate.
That trueno blue is killer.
Gonna try to get the Base GR86 2023 AT soon :) Its just so beautifullllllll to me. Also because this is a two door car, I honestly don't want anyone else to ride front passenger since I will have the seat down at all times including back seats for extra storage. I like to be alone when I am driving, it calms the nerve and relaxing while I bump up some music, especially for night drives too!
the brz sells in the number/figures as a future collectors item. A limited trim/spec 86 or brz will no doubt appreciate in value if kept in near stock form with low wear/tear. Cant say much about other cars these days. To me thats the hidden value of having one of these as a secondary option since they bring so much value as a drivers/car on the cheap as well as the low volume sale/future collectability aspect. For me thats the added value to this platform that others also dont bring to the table
I really like this car with the manual
i think putting a loud exhaust to this automatic will make it alot better than standard, cuz you can still down shift and hear the pops
Thats a great looking car
That colour is mwah
I wanted a manual one (speaking in the past tense because I’ve realized I can’t even afford a GR86) but after test driving the automatic I really liked it. It’s very responsive and can be super chill for cruising too
You can’t afford a $30k car? Damn man get into tech sales, starting salary is almost $100k and promotions every year. I just bought a ZL1. LES GO

You should look up the history for Trueno, you won’t be disappointed.
I will be getting one :)
As a person who is just lazy, I prefer automatic over manual when it comes to newer 2020+ sports cars.
Me too haha
I neither prefer or dislike them. If the auto is good, then it’s good. In some cases, the auto is just bad (like the WRX’s CVT), so the manual is the only logical choice. In the BRZ/86’s case, the auto is decent, so it’s not a bad choice at all. In the Supra’s case, the auto is great, so the it’s a toss-up between the auto & manual.
I like manuals but I don’t like driving manual after a hard hike or leg day at the gym so auto it is lol
@@theconformist2399 tbh I don’t include CVT’s under automatic. Since rarely any real sports cars come in a CVT stock.
Keen on auto gr86 for daily. Got a s2000 too so idc about it needing to be manual
Your downshift demo on the off-ramp told me what I wanted to know. In a ice car I want to be able to down shift as needed to make use of the power band coming off of the apex. I think I would get a Electra N with a dct
My 90s civic gets that mpg with bolt ons, thinking about getting an auto gr86 because it's cheaper, I prefer the manual but they are charging too much for a manual, great video, it help me a lot.
I prefer the red accents and stitching in the BRZ more actually. The silver interior doesn't tickle my fancy.
As a person, Im glad this car
I was looking at trading in my 19 tacoma 4x4 for this. Although it’s been tough finding a decent deal. There are used ones that are the same price or more than a brand new one…
I was going to use this as a daily driver and where I live there’s always a lot of traffic so the AT might be the option I choose. The manual sounds like a lot of fun to drive but it doesn’t seem practical for my situation. And the auto should get better mpg which I believe will make up for the initial price difference vs the manual.
Really big fan of this, only con is that the exhaust is kinda weak but if I owned one I’d just get an aftermarket tune or muffler delete, toyota and Subaru really improved the brz and gr86
Dang! That’s a pretty blue indeed. I want one lol.
Love the car, gonna wait for factory wireless CarPlay though. Kinda thing that once you’ve had it you can’t go back to plugging in.
As someone who wears Hawaiian shirts, I appreciate the automatic as it gives me more time to check myself out in the Mirror 😜
I really don’t know why people feel they need an excuse or some kind of medical reason to get the auto. In Europe we learn manual as standard but when people get a sports car, it’s usually auto with paddle shift these days. And if you want that experience, GT86 is a great low cost entry point.
it just hit me, this literally looks like a mini RC F
My dad bought a base stick shift gr 86 for his commuter car going to the city, he says it’s a fun toy.
The dudes that was acting was on top of the zone tooo
dream car
I thought that looked familiar, I work right near there. Get off at Sheldon everyday for work. Got a red FRS, soon hopefully I'll have my Neptune gr86.
Do you park the car overnight to do the startup or is that just how it starts warm? Noticed this in some of the reviews and was interested.
Come on Topher! Trueno Blue like the Trueno AE86!
Idk if anyone has mentioned it yet BUT Trueno is pronounced “Tru-ee-no” :3 thanks for the video! Great car!
its going to have tons of understeer its a drift car one of the few 2022 cars that still come with stock hand ebreak.
What a Toph
That a awesome car
I think i'd have to go for this one cuz it would be my daily & i live in a big city
Traffic is an issue in my area so... that's the only thing holding me back for the manual
Thanks for the review. The black wheels match the black mirror caps on the GR models (versus body color mirrors caps on BRZ). One feature with the AT is when in 'sport' mode, the sound maker increases in volume - to the same level of the manual. The AT is a bit quieter of a car than the MT without needing to unplug the sound maker when driven normally/cruising. Lower engine RPMs at highway speeds help too. The Michelin PS4 are a big disappointment in terms of road noise and tramlining.
I have ps4s tires on my camaro best tire I've ever had on a car you must be smoking crack
@@panagiotisf7228 you also have much more nose insulation, he not saying the performance is bad but the the road noise is.
@@eliotgarcia21 and I'm saying I have michellin ps4s on my car and there is no tire noise much quieter then any other tire I've had and I have 3 cars with 3 types of tires
