Only if you did make your drill instructor powerless like that as a regular soldier you would just be discharged and that would be the end of your military career. It is not WWII era Imperial Japanese Army where they could just beat the shit out of a soldier for insubordination, It is a modern professional army that relies on highly motivated soldiers (and people who cant afford College, to be a bit more cynical) not a conscripted army that needs to break involuntary subjects into canon fodder.
@CATS I was referring to the modern us military as a whole not this particular officer candidate school. But now that you bring it up the officer candidate line relies even more on the determination and motivation of the soldier as no one is forcing you to advance to the level of officer.
The comedic genius that it took for Sacha to stick only his finger across the line so the guy would say "you're finger's in my alley" as a set up to the joke. Amazing.
That, when I saw the movie,Was the line I think I laughed the loudest at! Although I certainly didn't like it nearly as much, overall, as Borat, Bruno definitely had its moments!
I mean, to be fair, those officers weren't saying anything about him being gay. It was more of a matter of them feeling disrespected. God forbid though there weren't any cameras, I feel like Bruno might've gotten abused af.
There’s no way he actually joined the Army and went to OCS to make this scene, that wouldn’t have been possible. What he did do however according to what I’ve heard, is he claimed that he was part of a German film crew that wanted to film a documentary about a day in the life of U.S. Army Officer training, and that’s how he was able to sneak on board and pull the prank.
A couple years after I watched this movie, my girlfriend bought some D&G glasses, and I said "Oh, Dulce and Gabbana, nice", and she was pretty impressed by my sophistication. Thanks Bruno!
What makes me laugh too is the fact that the officers are more concerned with the scarf and belt and don’t realize he’s not even wearing the correct boots either 😂😂😂
I recently got around to watching this movie and I gotta say, it was one of the most uncomfortable viewing experiences I've ever had. It's comedy gold, but, God damn, does Sacha Baron Cohen not give a fuck.
Can we appreciate all the crew member that worked with SBC? I mean, how they were able to not start laughing? if I had been the cameraman I would have cried with laughter 😆 The screaming at 2:25 always destroy me.
Jesper Jee there was only one actor in the whole thing and it was Sacha. no one else was in on it. in the whole movie there was a total of about 3 actors.
the great Zantack I know. But no real people acts like these military guys so my point was that they looked like actors. The military seem silly with all that screaming and headbutting.
+Jesper Jee It may seem silly to you, but war is one of the toughest and most excruciatingly brutal things that happens on this planet, if you had actually experienced it, the training would make far more sense to you. I've also met plenty of people that act like them naturally. Almost always extremely motivated and disciplined individuals with a form of fitness.
+Can't Stump The Trump Sure it´s about dicipline and dicipline for the most part is a good thing. But it can also lock a person into a scewed and unnatural behaviour. Sadly, because we are all just animals, war seems to be more natural than not. If we were more evolved however, this type of behaviour wouldn´t be necessary. And brainwashing people so that they will manage war better is an insane concept created by man.
+Jesper Jee War has evolved far past the natural small scale tribal conflicts that have existed in much of our past. Our instincts are a mix of altruism and selfishness. If you're fighting off another tribe, you're fighting them with your brothers and to directly protect your family and friends. Staying altruistic, becomes natural and easy. If you're in a foreign nation, fighting a foreign enemy because the two nations politics clashed, it feels much less connected to our normal altruistic conflict based instincts. Becoming detached is far easier. You can logically reason for what you're doing, but instincts are far behind modern logic. Selfishness becomes a much larger issue, which destroys motivation and combat effectiveness. So a modern military has to first of all, screen against those not able to endure unnatural punishment. Stress inoculation training is a major goal of the training for those who do endure as well. The result is hardened individuals who have been put in situations that naturally would sway those towards selfishness (eg. giving up on a difficult seemingly pointless task) and put through hell with their fellow trainees to create a strong sense of unity and therefore altruism. Lets not forget, that after training, the scream in your face NCOs become far more civil with you, because you have proven yourself and they have done their job. Many soldiers gain a significant amount of respect for these men as they often fully understand the benefit of their harsh teachings once they're over.
"Your finger is in my alley"
"... Not yet"
And that officer's face xD
oml I'm crying 😂 his face is like "BITCH WTF DID U SAY TO ME?!"
Ugh saw a guy there when I attended who got into that alley. Wasn't pretty.

If you look close enough, for a microsecond he has a slight smirk on his face.
they are like....being 10X more nice then they normally would.
Look how powerless they are when he's not affected at all by their scare tactics.
