To be honest.. Marine corps drill instructors were some of the funniest fuckers I’ve ever been around. The drill instructor took him aside and told him to “scream for his life” at the birds on the telephone line/poll. Said they wouldn’t let him leave until all the birds flew away. A couple hours later we were cleaning the barracks before bed and you could faintly hear this poor dude screaming for his life at these damn birds 😂
Honestly Drills, whether DS or DI, are just the funniest motherfuckers lol. I was on fire guard one night at like 3 am during basic, and someone came and complained that the dude in the bunk above him was beating off so hard it was shaking the whole bunk. The drill sergeant happened to come in to do a random check at that moment and asked what this guy was doing out of his bunk, so we explained the situation to him. He asks us to point the dude out and then sneaks up to his bunk, mounts up so that he's at eye level with him and screams "WHO THE FUCK TOLD YOU IT WAS OKAY TO SPANK THE MONKEY ON GOVERNMENT PROPERTY!"

If you even tried to ask him something, he’d just tell you to shut the fuck up before you even got a whole word out. Marine DI’s are brutal
Army does the same thing including airforce and marine and navy seals, the drill sergeants are breaking you down in that branch and if that's the case then the army drill sergeants ain't doing there job which I highly doubt that they go easy on you.
Silent Skull739 No. If that were true, then why can you join the Marines, do your 4 years, then get out of the Marines and go right into any other branch of the service without going through their Boot Camp? There’s no fucking point that’s why. Waste of time. Also Seals(BUDDS) isn’t boot camp, it’s a school. You can quit anytime if you just can’t do it.
They don’t seem like nightmares, they just seem like goons. It’s amazing anyone actually learns a single thing with that kind of absurdly toxic behavior. In ‘69 I came within 1 line of being drafted into the Marines. In Army Basic the cadre were all Airborne Rangers with multiple Nam tours. 1 per platoon and 1 troop pusher (also AR and Nam vet) waiting for discharge. My MSG was senior, had 3 Silver Stars (senior man left-should have been unit award, psychotic break, earned it). My pusher also had a Silver Star earned in a psychotic break. They didn’t have to yell. When they spoke we listened. “If you get sent to a unit where you need to know how to march, they’ll teach you. Not all of you will draw combat MOS, but that doesn’t mean you won’t go to Nam and get into deep s**t. We’ll try to give you tips that will improve your chances of survival…some aren’t taught in Advanced Infantry Training unless you get lucky.” Over the years since then I have read articles indicating that the primary/duty MOS of many Marine DI’s aren’t combat arms, probably because they need more than 1 per platoon I guess.
My uncle told me his Drill Sgt. once said to a Pvt.: "I'm here to teach you how to shoot and kill, discipline is something your mom should've gave you" 😂
Army DS's will yell, then wait, because they know that the worst part is the pause during which one has time to contemplate the poor decisions in life that have led them to this point, and to experience the dread of wondering what comes next. Marine DI's just yell without stopping, and layer one on top of another, because they know this kid is just thinking about eating his next box of crayons.
36 years later and what Drill Sergeant Rogish and Drill Sergeant Stonebreaker taught us is permanently engrained in my memory. (Yes, that is their real names.😆) I still do some of my morning routine based on what was (drilled) into us, at E-4-3, Ft. Dix, NJ. GO ARMY!

But day one shark attacks over nothing where you have incoherent yelling and alternating and conflicting messages doesn’t teach anything. You wanna pt someone till they die so be it, you wanna scream orders at someone 2 feet away as long as they are coherent, reasonable, lawful and manageable I got no problem with that. This video made the army look pretty soft and those drills were pretty nice for the camera as I believe that was a news deal on recruiting, but they did get one thing right, Army is about teaching you first. And not just screaming for intimidating effect. I at least respected my Drill Sargents. Theres only a few marines in that video who would be respected after training

And they never turned off. And I mean that, until graduation day they never took their foot off the pedal. One of the most incredible things I've experienced was our DI's handing our EGA and shaking our hand calling us Marines. By people that terrified us, but we developed a level of respect seeing what they sacrificed for us. Simply some of the most impressive people there are. They are the gatekeepers of the Marines. And the Marines have hands down the best culture of any organization on the planet. Your a Marine? You instantly become closer than family. Don't even need to know the guys name. I never screamed at a private. I used a loud command voice. There is a huge difference. For one, I only lost my voice the time I got strep throat.
We’ll try to give you tips that will improve your chances of survival…some aren’t taught in Advanced Infantry Training unless you get lucky.”
Over the years since then I have read articles indicating that the primary/duty MOS of many Marine DI’s aren’t combat arms, probably because they need more than 1 per platoon I guess.

Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing is being taught. The Marines in this video are just being psychos.
@@jordanharrison8769 Good observation of nothing is being taught. You are observing reinforcement of what has already been taught. That is how discipline is learned. You learn how to perform under pressure. This is not a beauty contest, lol 😆
@@gordonparker1478 if that’s the case then it’s fine. But from what I’ve seen this is day one shit. You have drills going absolutely bat shit throwing duffles at screaming at privates or whatever the fuck the marines call them, recruits. I got no issues with the black Marine that sounded like his vocal chords snapped talking about port arms, or the ones talking shot about the pizza box, or really the majority of it.
I absolutely adored all my platoon’s drill sergeants during basic. I still miss them sometimes. Yeah they yelled at me, but after the first few weeks you really developed a camaraderie and rapport with them. Basic was pretty fun, all things considered.

You don't get it at the time, and a lot of it is part hazing and abuse to entertain them. But I don't care, these guys had 12 plus hour days for months, 6 possibly 7 days a week.
