They were the most power 4-axle ever built. Even by today's standards, no locomotive has reached 4000 hp in a compact design. Most were built 1988-1989.

@@crsrdash-840b5 The only four axle locomotives I will say outside of GE's B40-8/B40-8W that were close enough to 4,000 HP are the EMD GP60's with the 3,800 HP 710's.

@@pokeyrailfanning They were built between 1988-1989 and didn't have many buyers since their larger cousins came out known as the DASH 8-40CW. It was Union Pacific that wanted a wide cab so we got DASH8-40CW-now that was a mess up effort!

@@harrimanfox8961 Yes, but in later years eventually came improved versions that were so much better than this type you see here. More modern locomotives of today are pretty much equiped for almost all kinds of freight (The B40-8s had high horses but lacked tractive effort) so that quickly made them obsolete as time went on.

@@anhkietduongdo that’s why the Santa Fe used them for hot intermodal trains. They were more built for speed on short fast and light trains. Now they’re just used for local and short distance road freights
