      Ever heard of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? To question his professionalism due to his role as a substitute, something out of his control, is not a strong supportive statement against Tevez. As Joorabchian mentioned, Carlos still scored 15 goals that season (1 more than Berbatov) and provided a handful of assists. His level of performance runs contrary to the assertion Gary made that Tevez "downed tools." If Gary feels that Carlos didn't display a positive attitude at training due to contract issues, that is his opinion. As Joorabchian stated, any player in the last year of his contract is going to have a certain level of distraction. Tevez's high level of involvement and statistics that season prove his high level of professionalism.

      @paulmallon9292 Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah he makes some decent points but when people start massaging the facts in terms of appearances, it really validates Gary's point that he was less involved in the second season. He is also maneuvering around the third party issue. It was a factor in the option to keep Tevez. Its fair to say. That said i do think part of Tevez downing tools was down to the fact that he was being phased out with Berbatov. I think he was unhappy with his position on the squad at the time and it snowballed from there. Tbh if a club doesnt want you it is going to demotivate you. I dont think thats 100% realistic to expect Tevez to have the same motivation.

And for him to ask, “Gary, what people were in his ear?” Teves followed the money. He knew he was a savage player with tons of skill but Teves was always a mercenary. Always had money counters behind the scenes and agents looking for the best bottom line. Stop acting like Teves’ agent is proving anything right and not just weirdly trying to get a 35+ year old Teves publicity right now

Why they would go to a country where it was banned when plenty of others allow it. All that investment from a young age down the pan, purely so their players could follow their dreams. As ardent United supporter for almost 20 years now, IMHO this is on Sir Alex and David Gill. Tevez was a critical player in 07/08, morale was good going into the 08/09 and he certainly didn't have a reputation for behaving like a prima donna that point in his career. In the 08/09 season, Tevez had some incredibly important moments that stat sheets won't tell you - the winner during the hectic Boxing Day/Christmas/New Year's period away at Stoke, the influence he had when he came on at half time and totally changed the pace of the game by replacing an ineffective Nani against Spurs to help the team come back from 2-0 down to win 5-2, the absolutely worldie against City and the game-changing performance and equalizer away at Wigan in the title run-in. When called upon, this man delivered, again and again and again despite being shunned in favor of the supremely talented but painfully lanquid Berba. In Dec of 08/09, Tevez even scored 4 goals against Blackburn in the League Cup and didn't start the next game. What more did he have to prove? Why Sir Alex and David Gill waited until May 2009 to confirm they'd sign Tevez and meet the asking price of £25.5 million rather than just nipping it in the bud before the start of 08/09, I'll never know. Berba definitely had world-class attributes but Tevez will always be the player that suited United style better.
