I think that the main character is dead and was having a flash-back. In the beginning he was saying "Where's Pidgeotto? Where's my team?" Then he wakes up to get his first Pokemon. It explains why he can see Charlie. And how the gravestone was unreadable at the beginning because the mom was already dead, it was just a flash-back of what happened.
Why would he have this flash-back? I don't know, maybe the mom's ghost somehow killed him in revenge and it made him remember, as a ghost, what happened to his Brother.
Maybe he is Charlie. The boy-side Charlie. Remember the workers saying that he should have left? That he didn't belong?

To be honest i think i understood something even worst.
Personally what i did understood was something along the lines of
The mother gave birth to a daughter but didn't wanted a daughter but a son.
So she begun to force her daughter to accept the fact she must "be a boy" but when her daughter refused to play by the rules of her mother. The mother lost it and killed her own daughter.
But i suppose the transgender explainations makes a bit more sence with the end....
I suppose that either way the mother is completly fucked in the head for killing her own child

I appreciate your voice. For some reason the way you inflect really shows that you’re thinking, and a lot of the loud noises didn’t unnerve me. It might have something to do with how calming your tone is! The strategic battle was also a treat.

But it does not matter how much a person changes on the outside... they are always the same on the inside... and no human can change another person. It's one of the reasons why so many relationships fail.

Can still be played through a process if your phone is compatible. Just have to download joiplay and 3 other apps to play it. There are several dozen steps but alot of CZcamsrs lay it all out for you. Just look up how to videos.
