    Wow 45 mins in and I realize I have PTSD from wallpaper removal from my ranch that was built in 1968 and wallpapered every square inch. It was like an episode of SpongeBob……. 1 room=2 months later🤨😫🤪 Was so thankful for the few walls of paneling I found😂 I already see what went wrong in my sons room in the corner and your primer information. I got so annoyed I just painted over it in the rest of the house but that was 18 years ago and I’m getting ready to tackle it all before I get to old 😆 So glad I found this video! Thank You so much this is such useful info into what is going on with all this old paper.

    Hi Spencer.
    Your videos are IMO the absolute Best. I looked at a lot of videos on CZcams, then found yours. All the things you said about the short cut people are true and wasted my time. I watch your videos from beginning to end and have been rewarded with excellent advice and technical expertise. Thank You so much. I now have the knowledge to take care of my projects myself and no longer listen or hire "flimsy flam" wanna bees. I appreciate You taking the time to share your wisdom and knowledge. God Bless.

    I never thought you sounded like Christopher Walken until you mentioned it, now I cannot un-hear it! I have to let you know I took the plunge and took on a feature wall in my son's bedroom with a dark blue wallpaper that has stars and moons that glow in the dark! I prepped the wall using guardz first then went at it! I am so glad I watch your channel as the planning to make sure the window reveal had enough overlap was priceless! Sending a huge thanks from the UK for all your helpful tips and tricks.

    I’m dealing with a 1980’s house that I’ve dug down on the walls to find (in the kitchen) 2 layers of thin, cheap wallpaper glued directly onto the drywall, which is not like today’s drywall, then was rolled over with joint compound for a terrible, uneven texture at some later date, and then painted on top of that. It’s an unholy mess. Peeling off completely in some areas, but not others and is so thick, it cannot be simply primed over. I wish with all my heart that it could be. 😢

    I just bought a home wallpaper in every room. It’s in great shape every once and a while there is a loose edge or seam. My question is should I apply BIN to those edges then paint the entire wall the kilz? 2. Once dry do I need to still need to mud the wall 3 times or just 2 times? Or is it even needed? I was thinking of not skim coating and applying 3 coats of kilz then paint

      Joe, I took a lot of time to make the video and your answer is in that video; I don’t know what kind of Wallpaper you are dealing with… I made it clear that it is not appropriate for certain wallpapers to do this procedure shown in this video

    Wow! So much information! I feel so inspired to fix my walls! So I bought a house in 2020 that was a custom-build, one-owner home built in 1950. Beautiful, but redecorated with wallpaper many times over the years. The previous owners hired a crappy painter to paint (with one paint!!!!!! on trim, doors, ceilings, everything) over the wallpaper. The seams are visible and in some places the paper is peeling off of the wall. In my bathroom, where few visitors can see, I ripped the paper down and it was very difficult to remove. Now, I am scared to rip the painted paper down. Can you give me any advice concerning wallpaper that has already been painted over?

      @angiescorner9549 I'm not sure. The ceilings in the 1950 section of the home are those square tiles. There is popcorn in the 1968 addition

    Question(s) - You were raving in another video about using BIN primer alcohol based after wallpaper is removed. In this video you use Kilz oil based when you can't remove all the wallpaper. Is that what differentiates which primer you use - wallpaper removed or impossible to remove? Some videos show the use of Guardz clear sealer. How do I determine if the wall requires a sealer of the sheetrock b4 the primer? It looks like I use a primer before I skim coat. Is that correct? Then I use a primer after I skim coat too. I apologize. It's a tad overwhelming bcuz it seems like each sitjuation is a little different. I cannot get all my wallpaper removed. It's taken hrs and hrs to do 1/3 of one wall. Luckily I only have one wall. thk u for all your tips. I do watch from start to finish.

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  Před 2 lety +1

      Good for you that you watch the videos and you demonstrate that you have watch them because your questions show me that you have watched oil gives me a headache but it happens to tie down the mess of the wall so wonderfully; it is what the old timers would always use, no exceptions. However, the customer had to open up all of her windows and doors; it is not the best thing to use, practically speaking.
      If I were you I would simply use either oil like I did hear, or bin Please remember that each one has a very strong smell; Gardz ironically, Will do the same thing; it just takes longer to start working over that material; oil, and bin work very quickly

    • @jazz901
      @jazz901 Před 2 lety

      @@spencercolgan To be clear then, I can use BIN oil based when there is glue residue and some wallpaper? I don't have loose wallpaper; mine is just not budging. Or the alternate is to use Kilz oil based. Lastly, can I use BIN alcohol which dries faster? I think I saw that in one of your videos. What confused me is that some videos use thin gardz. After the skim coat, then I prime again? Can I use a water based BIN primer or 123 primer at that point? On your Aug 1 2020 video you said after your 2 skim coats, you can just seal it and then prime it b4 painting. Seal AND prime skim coats? 2 steps? Sorry for all the questions. Just had many failed DIY projects lately that I'm terrified of the skim coating and want to get prep work right. Not only that, the professionals I've hired for other things have done horrible jobs and it looks like I'm out $19k for poorly installed floors. So I gotta get this right. Thank you 4 all your help.

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  Před 2 lety +2

      @@jazz901 , bin is alcohol. KILz Is oil. Use either. Both smell. Bin allows you to work right away. Oil takes several hours.

      Thanks for the clarification Spencer! Nobody around me has Gardz in gallons currently and I have to finish this job as it’s a urgent care facility and they need the exam rooms back. I will buy the shellac BIN by the gallon and give that a shot to cover any glue residue. Love the videos!!!

I talked to the guy who installed the wallpaper who did repair work to the plaster beforehand and said I would have more to do if it were removed. I promise I watched all the way several times and I have one question. Can the fibatape be put over the seams before the initial skim coating or does it need to be done after?
