What color do you think I should paint my walk-in closet? Leave your favorite paint color name and brand right here!
do three of the walls and the ceiling white [it's a very small space] and do the wall that you see when you walk in a color like "lipgloss" from Dulux. you should do an 'eggshell' or 'matte' finish. also, please sand and paint your trim a bright white. granted, it's a lot of work, but it'll refresh your space a ton!
I love a good bright turquoise/cyan, like a sunny summer sky. Bright blues have proven to be calming! I don't really have a preference on brands...
@Brown Girl Yep, I am planning to put a desk top area in there, as built into the shelving! That's where I will record my podcast. Sound quality in a closet is phenomenal! :) So I want something pretty!
@@LaineyBug2020 Thank you, Laney!
@@kalin2580 Thank you!!
Thank you so much! Just what I needed to learn. I have a small room, 2m x 2m, covered with wallpaper. The wallpaper is old and needs to go, and replacing it with emulsion paint... thanks for all the tips... you are so practical, making DIY looks so simple and affordable! You are incredible!
I ACTUALLY LOVE THE COLOR
SweetieTay me too!! I think it would be really pretty with some pops of teal, turquoise, and/or blush pink and some other girly touches.
I do too. Actually.
@@xSPARROWxx yes those colors would make that room blossom.
@@xSPARROWxx I was thinking the same thing
Ooh, okay, ladies!! I may have to consider those other accent colors! 🥰 Thank you!!
Wow. Thanks for this video, Ms. Appiah. I am taking the wallpaper off our bathroom walls and I was really worried about the brown paper bag areas. Now I know what to do about them.
Chris
I’ve done this in the past and have a good understanding. You did an excellent job communicating the steps and involving the viewer.
She's like superwoman, renovated the cupboard thing, takes a break to bake a pie, makes dresses and sings too, amazing!
Amazing video! Thank you for showing real time and for taking that extra step for your viewers it is very much appreciated!!
Great tutorial. We just moved into our new home and the kitchen and baths have dated wallpaper. Thanks for being so detailed, specific and real about how long and tidious this is.
After seeing this I vow never to put wallpaper on my walls! Eek!!
Haha, well. modern papers today claim they're easy to remove! "Removable" as they say.....I am curious to know if that is true! lol
Thrift Diving I’ll never find out hahaha.
If you size the wall with sizing, it comes right off! Really, I promise.
Contact paper is on the phone and would like to speak to you
Yah!!! Me too!!!
I love pale yellows, they're bright and happy! They also make a small space look much bigger.
Thanks for going over the whole process, very helpful!
Thank you for the detailed video!! I'm currently renovating my office and had wallpaper up from 1980, your video made me feel confident to handle it on my own. I just got done sanding and will be moving on to the joint compound step. Thanks again. :)
Girllllaaahh!! You have a nice voice! Sing sing sing! Great job on the wallpaper removal. ❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
Ok now I’m just binging your channel. It’s like everything I ever needed to know being a young first time homeowner!
Was it a good tutorial? Well, the best of all those I have watched! Very clear, complete, and relatable. I am partway through removal of my 25 year old bedroom wall paper and needed better advice than the multiple CZcams examples I have watched, and this clip is superb.
By far the best video about removing wallpaper. Thank you!
And you can sing! Love your videos. You truly inspire. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and creativity!
Awww, thank you! The closet acoustics was too prime NOT to sing! But generally, I think I sound average at best! LOL :)
You are such a hard worker! It will take me much longer for my small bath, but I am determined! Thanks for this demo! I appreciate your videos so much!
As usual another brilliant and exciting video from Thrift diving. I can see it certainly takes a lot of work to remove wallpaper. It's going to look beautiful when you're finished.
I’ve just started redecorating a guest bedroom and the walls are a mess, I love this video and I feel like I can do this repair on the drywall by myself. Great video
I appreciated this step by step guide of how to remove wallpaper because there are a lot more steps involved in the process than most videos like to admit. I have a better understanding as to why my father didn’t remove the wallpaper we had and just painted over it cause boy does that seem like a lot of work for one closet space. Although I would like to get rid of it in the office space that I’m working on. Thank you so much for your determination and guidance!
Thanks for the video, going to try this, was worried about the removal, but feel better about it now
Found this lady outstanding as I'm planning to do this myself. Thank you.
I was exhausted watching you remove the wallpaper and stuff and then u gonna go bake a cake???? Super mom, im tired laying in bed watching you
A pale canary yellow! It always makes me so happy! I have a few clothes that are that color and it's so lovely!
Sounds pretty! I ended up choosing a blush pink. I am going to re-paint this week. Hoping it turns out!!
FANTASTIC VIDEO, thanks!
Thank you for the helpful tips and tricks.
Color looks great
LIFE SAVOR!!! I’m remodeling my moms kitchen for her. Big help. TYSM ❤️
I learned from a friend and wallpaper devotee to size walls before papering. Sizing prevents drywall from absorbing the adhesive and extends drying time so the paper can be adjusted a bit once it’s on the wall. And when my tastes changed, the paper peeled off with relative ease requiring only a scraper and warm water to remove the sizing and glue.
I used Valspar’s Dogwood Petal, a white paint tinged with peachy pink tones in my bathroom, which is roughly the same size as your closet, sans window. It works with pink or gray accents and supports a little bling nicely. But really, the gray your son chose is nice. You could tone it down with white or neutral accents or rev it up with pink, yellow or coral.
This came our AWESOME!!! LOVE THE GREY!!!
I love this tutorial, very helpful and practical, thank you for this video. As for the color my suggestion is medium aquamarine - lovely, fresh and subtle.
Fantastic work !
You did a wonderful job! thanks for sharing, I need to desperately tackle my bathroom this way!!
I love this lady, thanks for sharing
I friend bought a huge old Victorian Painted Lady and snookered me into helping her "reno"... Which quite literally meant removing over a hundred years of wallpaper, and a few layers of paint in between a few of them. It took 3 weeks to do one lady's sitting/sewing room. It also took a steamer, 6 gallons of vinegar, wallpaper roller/pricker things, destruction of both my shoulders, and all my love and patience...lol She's so lucky I loved her so much.
Yikes!!!! I think you likely had dreams (nightmares, perhaps??) of removing wallpaper. lol
Most apartment buildings in Copenhagen are 100 years old and you would cry if you had to reno walls here.when I removed some of my walls I found barbed wires, bamboo, newspapers, cigarette butts, coal and stuf I couldn’t identify as insulation. I did have fun reading some of the headlines on the very old newspapers so I saved some of the most whole pieces of paper.
This video is perfect. Saved me so much time
Awesome video. Thanks for the great instructions.
Brilliant tutorial! Thank you for using the electric sander on the walls - somehow I thought we have to do this manually and it was killing me!!! Looking forward to lots more great ideas!
Your my hero. I just want to cry thinking about doing this and wish you were here to help me
Great vid! I loved the way you clearly explained everything!
Thank you so much. I have an ugly wallpaper guest bathroom that seems so daunting, but this video has inspired me to go for it. I really like the gray paint. It's very soothing. You could add pink, lavender and turquoise accessories.
Thank you for this video. It was really helpful.
Oh my the most simplest video ever. I really really really appreciate you doing this video.. what a blessing. You really took the time to demonstrate, teach, explain and took in consideration the what if this or that happen in the process. Very well put together. I really had to leave an appreciation comment. I don’t know if any one can beat this but allot of jealousy. Please keep it going. God bless you
I’ve removed wallpaper before. You made it look so easy 😅😂
Haha, this was after so much practice from all the other rooms! lol
This video gave me hope! I am getting the wallpaper off (slowly….lots of layers with paint in between) but I had no idea what to do about the drywall I was “destroying” in the meantime…thank you!!
Wow!!! It looks so much better just like that
Great job 👍
I wish I had found your video a lot sooner! You’re awesome, love your energy and you’ve taught me a lot. I’ve been renovating our house and had to do a lot of wallpaper removals through it and have just learned stuff as I went along. If I had seen your video at the start it would have been so much faster 😁
This video was so helpful! Love it! :)
I like how you’re calling it, “brown paper bag areas” lol ❤️
HAHA, that's what it reminds me of! LOL
Sing it Kid!!! Sing it!! This was a fantastic video on some of the scenarios that arise when removing wallpaper. It was very informative. You have the patience of a saint with that steamer!! I've always rushed like a dope thus creating more work for myself on the spackle & sanding end of things. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
Amazing job.
You have so much patience! 😊
Thank you for doing it in real-time!
Hope it helps you! 😁
A lady of many talents❤️
Thank you!!
Excellent video! Thanks so much for sharing!
Excellent video, very complete. Thank you
Thanks for the tips and your a great singer 😁😍
Thank you for doing this in real time!
Thanks so very much! My son has moved very far away, so you are my best helper now!
Awww, so glad to help, Margaret! :)
Lively demonstration!
Love your Fred Sanford t-shirt!
I realize this video is 3 y/o, but I ran across it today, for my wife and I are on our 3rd room with wallpaper. It's the kitchen. We had the wallpaper professionally installed and I am running into areas where we removed the wallpaper that it looks as though the glue ate the wallboard paper as well. I believe what I am going to have to do here is a lot of skim coating and sanding. What I have found is that whatever time you think it takes to remove wallpaper, triple the estimate, because it takes a heck of lot longer than you initially thought. Especially, if you have to work overhead and your shoulders start to tire out.
Thank you for the video. I especially appreciated how you removed the sections of wood support with the saw. Set the depth and cut. Awesome tip.
Good luck with your wallpaper removal and repair, Steve! And I was just saying this to a friend the other day: whatever amount of time you think a DIY project will take, multiple that by 3x - 10x! It's always longer. ALWAYS! lol. Good luck!!
That color is gorgeous. I wouldn't change it.
Wow Sabrina the timing could not be any better, Thank God. Oh if only we lived near to one another😉 I am retired (68 yrs old) and I just purchased a TLC 1984 motor home. The closet has the original wallpaper, but I am going to paint over it. I am also having to get creative cause storage is small. House is 960 sq ft. But it is time to declutter too. I like colors on the bright side. Creamy yellow quiet down vs shout out loud yellow. I also like mustard mixed with cream again the the yellow but med. Mixing cream to mustard and it is so mello but still on a bright side. I like Autumn colors but adding cream to get 1/2 way. Closets can seem dark and that is why I go lighter. Thanks oh boy you are a great teacher n give me confidence to try it. Yeah👍😘☝🙌💝 Caroline
Oh PS i reside near Prescott AZ.
Thanks for taking the time out to make this video. I found it very helpful and you covered all the points with details. Now it doesn't seem that scary anymore to remove wallpaper. I have two rooms to do.
You're welcome! It's a tedious job, but not difficult. Don't rush it and find some good shows to listen to while you do it. :) Good luck!
Great video. I love the color. Girl, you can sing!
I love the color!
Loved your video. Buying an old house which is covered in wallpaper. These tips are going to help a lot . Thank you
I love the gray your son picked up. Easy to accent with the girly-girl colors (or not). Aside from that, I absolutely love a sage green. Again, easy to accent with other colors - either bold or girly-girl. Your closet gives me the twitches! I'm a minimalist and sort/toss clothing every season. For years, I start each season by hanging all my clothing with the hangars backwards. As I use something, if it goes back in the closet, it gets hung at the end of the line and the hangar hung frontwise. Within a couple months (or through the holidays) I can tell what I'm wearing regularly and what I haven't touched. If I haven't touched it, I don't need it. Out it goes. Life can be so simple :-)
Thank you for the video. You have inspired me to remove my wallpaper.
Very helpful and inspiring!
Very helpful - thank you. The singing was wonderful - a recording contract beckons I think !!!
Coral Clay from Sherman Williams!
I’m about to use this color in my living room and I can’t wait to get this wallpaper off...thank you for your video.
good job i really learn from you a lot thanks.
I’ve been really stressed trying to get my bathroom redone on my own, this video helped a lot! You explained everything so well! Thank you :)
I'm so glad I could help, Reese!
Fantastic video
This video is really informative
I will be doing this to my walls
Thanks
Omg wish I saw this video months ago...glad I'm subscribed now.
This was excellent! Out of all the wallpaper removal videos that I watched prior, none addressed skim coating, or sanding down of "paper bag" areas. My wife and I just bid on a 130 year old home, and there are quite a few horrible wallpaper jobs in there.
Other videos showed priming the paper bag areas first, then skim coating. She did well getting the wallpaper off of what looks like raw drywall. Some areas don't have much paper bag areas. It might be easier for people who are lucky enough to have painted walls under wallpaper.
Thank you very much! What will help A LOT is Zinsser® Gardz® Problem Surface Sealer. Use it after wallpaper removing!!! BTW, new color of your walls are so beautiful, stylish and really modern! I am planning to use really similar one. Great job!
I actually like this color!
You must feel so good getting the last of the wallpaper out! Great job!
I do! Bye-bye, wallpaper! ☺
I removed wallpaper years ago but I first scoured the walls and then use a mixture of water and fabric softener then sprayed it over the wallpaper. Didn’t take long and was easy to peel off.
Great tips!!
I am trying to remove that exact wallpaper from my bathroom! Thanks for the info!
@Thrift Diving: I searched for "how to remove wallpaper and prep for paint," found your video, and since it seemed to tell me exactly what I needed to know, I didn't need to look any further. Thanks for the instructions. I would love to try that apple pie! Yum!! Thanks for the helpful video.
You are Awesome! Just FYI, you have a beautiful voice. Thanks most of all for the video to remove wallpaper. Your video is the first I have seen that demonstrates exactly how it should be done & the correct tools to use for the job. I love all the hints you gave to keep things neat & protected. I am actually looking forward to doing the job after trying 2 other methods. I also appreciate the protective gear you suggested to be safe.
Aww, thank you, Kelly!! I appreciate the complement on my voice! And I am happy this video helped you. :)
Amazing video!
Thank you!
I actually like that color lol
This was an awesome video thank you for making this
Thank you! I will be posting the final update of this closet later today or tomorrow! Stay tuned!
very nice video, thank you
Real time video really does help
Good to know, Jonny! Thank you for that feedback!
AWESOME tutorial and right on time (for me). I have to remove some grass wallpaper in my master bedroom and redo a seriously long wall. I started this video and you had me at the "The wallpaper is coming down tomorrow" dance at 1:20 mark. I laughed so loud my cats woke up. I think the color of paint that your son chose is good, BUT... watch the beginning of this video again and check out how much stuff you had packed into this closet... not much of the color you choose will show if you don't trim back your items inside. With the install of cubby's and places that will now be seen, I would go traditional with a matt white or for a color pop a pale yellow or pale blue... (anything pale). With that said I have a suggestion for you that helped me on one of my guest rooms -- When planning your walk-in makeover take into consideration ALL the space. The rough-draft of your new wall did not include shelving over the window. Consider making an entire wall shelved in. The results will WOW you because it looks more custom AND provides you more storage space. Floor to ceiling is an easy thing to do on an entire wall and provides that custom finish that will actually increase the value of the home on resale. I can't wait to see Part 2. Thank you so much for this tutorial and the laughs. My husband and I adore you. BIGGEST HUGS and Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Great tutorial, and I'll look forward to the follow on video. With that great window, the closet can stand up to a bold color. I'd suggest you pick a warm yellow, coral, or perhaps an aqua, teal, or beautiful orange. I love the warm spectrum, but you should pick the color that makes you happy. You won't regret it. Go bold or go home! You look great in bold colors, so I think a bold happy color would be great to film in too.
When I bought it, my entire home was boring linen white. I painted the bedroom a sunny yellow and loved it. The I had to paint the next room and the next and now it is all warm, happy colors. I also have a few accent walls in a C2 color called Persimmon. It's a vibrant red that I continue to love 10 years later. Initially I bought it from Benjamin Moore, but on the second round, I had Home Depot match it using Behr paint with primer and that was even better. The C2 paint made my head spin while painting, but I did fine with the Behr. My front and back doors are also persimmon. Everyone walks in with a smile on their face from seeing that happy color. My dining room is a terra cotta color that looks like Roman buildings at sunset. I don't recall the color name, but in the setting sun, it is breathtaking. I'll never paint anything linen for the rest of my life--not as dramatic as Scarlet O'Hara, but I'm equally committed to color.
Have a great time in Brazil! Feliz Natal!
I like the gray. Your son did good!
Thank you so much for this video😊
Gosh darn it, your good!
Thanks for the help with this you really helped me out i thought your singing was not bad in the end lol !
Wow. Baking a pie while you renovate your closet drywall. You’re a superhero. Today I got to work on time.
LOL, the pie was good, too!! :) It's one of the only things I can make that turns out right. HAHA. You're funny: "got to work on time." :) That's definitely a win, too! :)
I am glad I found your video clip and i will need to remove wall paper from my mobile home that i just bought
You’re amazing!!!
