THERE are different categories of ILS. CAT 1, CAT II, CAT III A/B/C and each have minimum requirements for visibility, cloud base etc. which determines the ability to see the runway at a particular height. CAT III B and C enable automatic landing (Autoland capability) . With CAT I and II Autolanding is not permitted. Most of the European airports have that facilities since they have near zero visibility conditions during the winter months. Thank you 🙏

എത്ര തവണ ലാന്റ് ചെയ്യാൻ ശ്രമിക്കാമെന്ന് മാർഗ്ഗ നിർദ്ദേശമില്ലെങ്കിലും പൊതുവായ നിർദ്ദേശങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാകുമല്ലോ. കൂടുതൽ അപകടങ്ങളും മനുഷ്യനിർമ്മിതമാണ്.

As u have suggested our views .. the pilot should have been bound to follow the SOP so as to save the aircraft and passengers.. though he could able to tackle the situation, such situations shouldn't be encouraged.. so the aircraft should have been diverted to Bangalore...

ചിന്തിച്ച് നോക്കുമ്പോൾ എനിക്ക് തോന്നിയിട്ടുള്ളത് atc കൃത്യമായ ഒരു destination കൊടുക്കണമായിരുന്നൂ. എപ്പോൾ pialot ഒരു desition എടുക്കേണ്ട ആവശ്യം വരുന്നില്ല. കാരണം weather condition correct ആയിട്ട് updates കിട്ടുന്നത് atc യ്ക്കാണ്. Fuel calculation and usage എന്നിവയിൽ pilot ന് തെറ്റ് പററിയിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്തായാലും aviation industry യിൽ ഇതു ഒരു study chapter ആകട്ടെ.

Every company has a minimum set of conditions that the pilots should adhere to. Here as the pilots stated there was no mention about it.
Now the condition is after 2 go around, they have to divert and the responsibility of the decision lies with the pilot in command.

I think the instrument landing system has been installed in Trivandrum since 1984. The installation and commissioning of an outer marker in Pachalloor was read in the media. At present, ILS CAT-1 available for the Runway-32. But the pilot initially approached RWY 14, which only provides a visual approach. Kochi also equipped with a CAT-1 ILS. If the visibility 3000m, he can land with the support of this ILS.

Also in times of emergency like a min fuel situation, there is nothing prohibiting the crew from declaring an emergency and doing an ILS to an autoland even if the visibility and ceilings are lower than prescribed for the CAT 1 approach. So even if you could not see the runway, you still land. This is only possible if there were no MEL items on the aircraft that prohibited the aircraft from having auto land capability for that day..

If an aircraft approaches with minimum / optimal fuel, the ATC will activate a full emergency procedure even if the pilot does not request an emergency landing. Similarly low visibility procedures are available for VMC / IMC conditions. This may vary in some countries depending on government regulations. However, with a visibility of more than 1000 m and a cloud ceiling of more than 350 m, the pilot can use the CAT-1 instument approach. According CAT-1 ops, a precision instrument approach and landing with a decision height not lower than 61m above touchdown zone elevation and with either a visibility not less than 800meters or RVR (if available) not less than 550m.

But divya cockpit crew realised or communicated bit late that ILS is non operational at TRV only after they decided to divert TRV by the time already flew 15 mins to the alternate.... And the weather and visibility at TRV was good even with VOR when the take diversion permission but there was a drastic change in low clouds and tail wind at TRV at the time of divert approach
Vyshak: We got to see what the Pilots did, despite the failure of planned back up they overcame the odds and landed the craft in one piece. I'm dead sure the pilots were a breed apart and well deserved to their Positions. They have given their best exam so far.
People here are outrageous as there has been multiple 'Go- round' and go with the thinking that, everything should be "Ideal" every time. Aviation is something misfit to that 'Thinking'.

Chechi my opinion is that pilot should have tried 2 times to land in COK ,as they have done...then even if it is not possible then he could have diverted to banglore airport.

According to my opinion, they should have been diverted to the nearest assigned airport after 02 go around. They should have been considered fuel on board and taken the decision accordingly.
The most important thing that the PIC should consider the safety of passengers and crew members. For each and everything we cannot depend on operating manual. Pilots should act and take decisions according to the situation.
