Lol, I wish. The telegraph just said we are pushing hard - nowhere does it say the deal is close. There are a lot of dubious 'facts' in that article. First is £50m price. Inter sold Lukaku for 100m+ and want 60m+ for Onana. How Barella can be less than Onana I just don't see it. Second, Italian media have stated we haven't even talked to the player's agent. The only thing I think is right is we definitely have a concrete interest in the player but we had a concrete interest in big names last Summer and most didn't pan out.
I'm going to keep being extremely pessimistic about this deal (hoping I'm proved wrong) but I'd take this story with a pinch of salt.

And yet Matt Ritchie is getting an extension, Gillespie is being kept on and they’ve offered a contract to Dummett and Karius. About the only one definitely going is Matty Longstaff
We will see but I believe they need to spend money this summer. If it falls short they will be hard pressed to even get European football the following season. I am a Newcastle fan and believe it will be harder next season.

Well with barella seemingly possibly on his way to Tyneside… they are truly a force. A Barella and Bruno is 2 parts of an elite 3. Get a forward (maddison probably) and a DM to free up Bruno and they’re well on their way
I'm not sure Maddison suits our current system, not physical enough for the midfield three and a bit too much of a luxury for the wings but that being said, as we start to dominate games more, less work will be required of those wingers you'd hope and they should be freed up to attack more. If Maddison puts the graft in he would be a great inside forward maybe. Or if we maybe play two deep lying CMs in a double pivot, it might allow for a creative almost number 10 like player in the CM (Maddison/Szoba) - could Barella and Bruno do a double pivot role, both doing some defensive work and carrying the ball out from the back? Maybe against lesser teams, would worry against stronger teams having no proper DM though.
@@dddgtsd I agree with most of what you’ve said, well all of it really. The only thing I disagree with is that Maddison doesn’t have the physicality and work rate for how you’re going to play. Not because I think that’s wrong but because I frankly thing you can aim for more. Your defence are technically good enough to play possession football. Bringing Bruno better partners will allow for more midfield play. I personally think you should be pushing down that route
@@BestBoyPatrick I think we’ll evolve our system which will allow for more creative players but based on the current system Maddison would struggle with what Howe expects from a central midfielder and maybe even as a winger. Definitely see him as an inside forward similar to Almiron if we do sign him, see people suggesting he can play deep but without a system change I can’t see it.

Maybe you considered this with your choices (you didn't say) but for me, as a fan, if Newcastle are going to take that next huge step & become one of the genuine elite, in Europe as well as domestically, they are gonna need to be able to change shape when they run up against different types of opposition. To adapt on the fly and win tight games. I wonder how your lineup & signing choices would fit into a system other than the 4-3-3. I think it's the mark of a good side to be able to do that, and something Newcastle will need to have in their locker.
P.S. I also think your estimated transfer prices were on the low end by 10 mill+ apiece. No way Tierney moves for 35mill. Cheers.

Newcastle fans, couple of things I was wondering about a few of your midfielders...
1. Matty Longstaff. What went wrong with him? A few years back, Udinese were offering him 25k a week and a lot of other clubs were interested in him. Do you think he had his head turned and lost his motivation after signing a new deal and not getting much game time? Now he's gone on a free. Is there any chance of him ever becoming a top level player, or is he just the new Josh McCeachran?
2. Joelinton. Why is there talk of signing anither play to start in his position of box to box mid? Since Howe switched him to that roll, he's been incredible! Is it because it's jot his natural position? Seen him get pushed further up and on to the wing a fair but last season with Willock and Sean Longstaff occupying that roll instead, almost to the point of wasting/ underutilising him. Him and Guimaraes together seem like a match made in heaven. Is Eddie Howe no looking to utilising him as a pressing centre forward to create space for the wide men?
3. Guimaraes. Could he be better utilised as an 8 rather than a 6? I know he runs the game from that deeper roll, but as a roaming playmaker with a defensive minded 6 behind him, I feel like he could do damage all over the pitch...

Hi mate, I'll do my best to answer your queries.
1. Tidy enough player and scored some worldies against Man Utd but any Toon fan who said he looked like a future star would be lying, he was pretty average even at best. Career definitely could've gone down a different route if circumstances were different, maybe he could've made it as a steady eddie for a lower league Prem team but it does appear he's been found out a bit, watched him at Mansfield a lot and he didn't even stand out. Was due to be released until he had a half decent pre-season and Ashley saw a way of saving money on new midfielders and perhaps he was riding that wave early in his Toon career. The whole Udinese wanting him story (are Udinese even a big deal?) was around the time his agent even claimed Ajax and Milan were making offers. I think it was nonsense as we stayed firm and he came crawling back to accept our low offer and sacked his agent. The club have allowed him to stay around to complete his injury rehab which is a nice touch but he'll be gone and probably end up in league one or lower Championship.
2. Jo has been a revelation, great in the box to box role and has even put some fantastic performances in as a left winger this season. Whilst his turnaround has been insane and he is a cult hero, he obviously still has his weaknesses. I'd keep him around regardless, he is a warrior, he's versatile and seems to just keep getting better and better. In terms of those weaknesses, he still gives me a heart attack now and then picking up the ball deep in his own half, he's not the most comfortable picking up in the defensive third but his defensive work makes up for it. I think he'll still be a Toon player for years to come, whether he'll start every game in a few years time is another matter but right now based on our system and how Howe wants to play he is perfect and epitomises our team spirit. I don't think Jo was wasted on the left wing, he would often switch with Willock and his work rate and pressing was still super effective.
3.This is well documented and discussed regularly amongst Toon fans. Bruno would be better in the 8 and I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in a destroyer DM to go behind him or bring in Caqueret/Barella to do that double pivot role where they can take it in turns to push on and the other cover. He is fantastic in the 6 cos he's so press resistant and comes deep and starts the move however he has a tendency to overplay in dangerous positions and there is an argument he is wasted sometimes being far back when Longstaff and Willock are getting all the chances. That being said as much as I love Bruno, his goal tally in his first season was a bit of anomaly, some fans think he is a goal scorer but he admits himself this isn't his game and he's not known for his finishing. Still, having him further up to play one twos and pick a pass would definitely benefit us - he'd often drift into more attacking positions when playing the 6 with Willock/Longstaff/Jo covering him.

As a Liverpool fan, a few weeks shy of 40, I'll always have a soft spot for Newcastle, be it via that team of the 90's, the Keegan, Dalgleish and Barry Venison connections or the memories of those 4-3 games back in the day, and of course, the love I've been shown in the city itself (even in the old Adelphi bar 😬) Sadly, I don't get to watch other teams as much as I used to, mainly highlights these days, so that level of input is greatly appreciated. Any transfer move for Awoniyi will also depend on how his injury record takes shape? I wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle bid for Ivan Toney and Lewis Dunk in the next couple of transfer windows.
not sure Dunk meets the age profile, we've got a young towering CB in Botman, I just think we need to bring in a young ball player like Todibo maybe to fight Schar for his place and ultimately replace him by next season - might be one for next summer though if the options aren't there this year.

I can't see it not being a good signing at 50m from any angle, whether it's legit is another thing. He is a grafter, has undoubted ability, versatile (can play numerous roles in CM). He is someone on the rise who is hungry too rather than someone who has already achieved it all and just wants a big payday.
