Newcastle United beat their own target by qualifying for the Champions League in their first full season with their new owners and manager. So they need to sign players that can make the step up quickly to Champions League level.
JJ Bull has identified the wing and the defence as two areas the Magpies can make a sensible transfer.

Fabian schar was so unbelievably good last season he can't be replaced unless it is a player of the highest quality. Schars distribution from the back all year was top notch. Most underrated player last season in the league

Much better than the last few Sensible Transfer videos, good effort. I think Tonali might've blown most of our budget though - Guler as an understudy to pick up the best parts of Almiron and Murphy's games for £17.5M sounds like a bargain though.

Our budget is not blown as it’s a 6 year contract so the 70 million will be split across 6 year which would be 11.6M of our FFP budget used this year but you have to take into account we will be paying for the likes of Bruno Botman etc every year also

no he hasn't, alot of these reports of budgets etc is BS. i wouldnt be surprised if we spend over 150mil again. the sky is the limit on our commercial revenue and Darren Eales is just getting started.
Very harsh on Schar. His dribbling out, his passing and his shooting is very important for us. He and botman switch the play brilliantly and he’s had a few assists with this passing. He has an excellent strike and free kick on him too, I think he’s a lot harder to replace than you suggest. The suggestion of Bella Kotchap is a completely different type of player looking at his passing stats. This would alter how we play massively.
He is very underrated. He was one of our standout players for the majority of the season. At the end of the season he did get beat for speed a few times, resulting in a couple of goals against us, but that was probably just fatigue kicking in, after all its a long season for a guy in his 30s. We do need to bring in a understudy, but him, and Botman, will be our starting centre backs next season, no doubt about it imho.
yeah, but it's just because he is old and there's no cover. It was even suggested in the video that they can keep the starting partnership for now, it's more about having any kind of depth there, and bringing in someone younger for the future
@@maciejbala477 yes but the player suggested isn’t similar is style at all to a Schar. He even suggested in his video that we concede more when Lascelles comes in to replace him. Bella Kotchap is more in the mould of a Lascelles ‘destroyer’ type
We could perhaps push him into a deep lying defensive midfielder role? He plays a pseudo defensive mid role for Switzerland I believe, and it resolves our requirement for a DMF without breaking the bank? Just speculation

Sensible transfer for Newcastle for me is Laporte. Wants first team football. Elite established Centre back. Great passing. No more than £40m. Makes a lot of sense.
I never thought of that but that is a big shout. Maybe he'll want to go to a bigger club but Newcastle can give him top 4 and an interesting project. Rotating him and Schar would be good. Youse should deffo go for him he could be like a Trippier signing, some experience to guide the youth.

Good shout but he’s a left sided centre back and Botman is nailed in that position, imo Skriniar would be a better shout since he wants to leave and has experience at the top level

Schar is kind of irreplacable, he has a sensuous long ball, he can cross play, and he loves a strike outside of the box, on top of that he's an adept defender. I think Burn is a weakness, because he's never used as an overlapping player, everytime he made a run this season the team ignores him and defenders knew he wasn't really a threat. Burn could be rotated as another CB if nufc get another LB. but I cant complain really, tonalli coming, and CL, HOWAY its like a dream
Burn has struggled at times especially against faster wingers he's quite guilty for dragging people back and giving away fouls in dangerous areas, that said he's done outstanding considering it's not his natural position and I've felt pretty safe knowing he's on the pitch for most games this season
Burn is a great utility CB. Rotate him in for the cup games. He was surprisingly decent at LB though.
I like the 4s chemistry, if it aint broke dont fix it.
@@soltea7926 yeah I feel good having him there too, he's like a false LB, but that's the only reason I'd say it's a weakness, he's not exactly overlapping or running down the wing to get a cross in. But there's benefits to having there too, the aerial threat from set plays too. I suppose we can see from this video that we got away with it becuase we have so many options on the left so he doesn't really need to overlap on the wing
I suspect they'll need to use their strongest XI for every CL tie, leaving them a bit short in the PL.
That is why they need to deepen the squad
They need to balance it out because they can't maintain CL qualification by neglecting the PL hence the increasing of squad depth. I'm Man United fan but I am enjoying watching their rise even if it's going to be to our own detriment😭

As a Fenerbahce fan, I’m absolutely gutted watching this. We haven’t won the league in a decade and this kid would have no doubt given us a great chance of ending that drought next season. However at this point considering all the rumours I doubt he stays. Props to the board for such great work on negotiating that release clause 👏🙄

@@rvgprodss You mean Arda Turan? I never thought of him as turkish Messi at all. He thought of himself as a number 10, but his best years where under Simeone at Atleti when he was pressing a lot. His time at Barcelona was not that bad by the way. Some very nice goals, just difficult to get a lot of play time behind neymar, suarez and messi.

Last Turkish footballer that was dubbed "The Turkish Messi" was Emre Mor and we know what happened with him. I'm praying Arda Guler doesnt flop like he did cause he looks so much more promising and as a Fenerbahce supporter Newcastle would be an amazing move for him but we also know going from Turkish league to EPL would be a massive change
Maybe a club like Ajax or Benfica would suit him, then go to a big club (please Liverpool!)

I am a Welsh Newcastle fan who often works in Turkey (long story lol) - I've seen Gular a coupe of times and he is an unreal talent. Obviously 18 years old means there is a lot of risk but his potential is literally sky high.
Shar does so much that goes under the radar, his range of passing for a centre back is genuinely world class, he's by no means a world beater but he's barely put a foot wrong since Eddie's came in and he carries the ball up field and picks passes and a few top class assists last season, if he's going to be replaced it has to be a similar style player imo
player of the season for me last year but we do have to be proactive in that position with his age. If there is a young CB out there who can play ball, shows athleticism and aggressive in the tackle we may have to move for him and let him compete with Schar for a place.

A good episode. The problem with Bella-Kotchap is he is a limited centre-back. Worse, he is a poor long-range passer. Schar's most important attribute is his long passes which we use to start our attackers (it's why teams don't press us so much for fear of a long ball over the top). We aren't a ball possession team, we are direct and will try and get into the box as quickly as possible rather than pass the ball side-side. A key weapon in that is Schar's long balls - if you look at one of the players we've been linked with, Anderson (from Palace), he profiles very similarly to Schar and either long passes or progressive passes (like Kim Min Jae) are what we want in a RCB.
My sensible pick would be Scalvini from Atlanta - probably available for €35m+ and will be as good as Bastoni. At just 19, plenty of resale value and is possibly a future world-class defender - has a higher skill ceiling than Botman.
Allan Saint-Maximin has one of the best xA/90 in the league btw
OK I think you are correct about Arda Güler. He reminds me very much of a young Peter Beardsley at his very best. Incidentally, as a school kid I used to play football with Peter next to the Fusilier Pub. His natural ability was there to be seen at a very early age. Quick, with a low centre of gravity he could sell a dummy and change directions in a split second. Then play the ball between an opponent's' legs for fun. Gaining a yard or two before slotting it between the jumper goal posts.
I remember playing with you and Peter. Those spin the bottle days were crazy. I couldn’t believe you lost your V to a broken bottle.
Any CB cover/replacement is going to need to have good distribution. Newcastle won't always be playing against a low block and vertically was a really stong part of the style last season. Hard pass on Bella Kotchap i think.

Harwood Bellis is better than most of the PL CB.

Definitely, both botman and Schar are great at passing, Schar in particular getting a few assists this season and the odd wonderstrike, he’s very unique and i think a lot harder to replace than they give him credit for

the age profile works and the fact Bella won't kick up a fuss if he doesn't go straight into the team but yeah I think we can do better, they need to be a combative and decent on the ball, basically a young quicker Schar would be brilliant!

I found looking for a similar style player to schär who’s young is pretty rare so it would most likely to try developing a play into that mold, the only player I’ve found that fits the profile is perr schuurs

Was watching bella-kotchap more closely last season. He seems really aggresive in his marking but is actually a very composed tackler.

I find the constant links to Maddison a bit odd, great player no doubt but I don't see where he fits in. I'm also seeing that we're close to agreeing a deal for Liveramento who's an RB who can cover at LB. Considering we signed Ashby as Trippier's understudy and we have other positions that need addressing I find it a bit strange yet trust Ashworth/Howe's judgement. Liveramento is a great player and a snip at 15m if true but surely KWP would be a better shout right now?

Bella kotchap can also play in that lb position, in the same way as burn is playing ( not going further than the midle line) so it is indeed a sensible transfer
Not sure about going for a CB over a LB...we already have Burn, who is a CB thats been filling a LB role (and doing a great job)...getting a better LB (like Tierney) allows us to use him as rotation in either a LB or CB as needed, which I think is the more sensible transfer option as it improves our options in two positions with one transfer

I think Joao Cancelo would be fantastic because he can slot in on both Left Back and Right Back, Technically great with solid experience and wants to be sold by city.If Newcastle are able to push for him definitely a 50-70 milion signing to upgrade that side.

mentioned him when I saw us linked to Anderson, I'd prefer Guehi but guessing the fee will be huge and Chelsea will have a buy back clause making any deal difficult.

if you see last season, Newcastle was actually dominant in many games, but ended up draw. What they lack is creativity, only Guimaraes are top players to give quality passes to the box, Newcastle really need that creative players to unlock a low block defense, and i think Draxler would be a decent signing, he is no where to be seen right now, but if Eddie can revive his career like Joelinton, Newcastle would get their own De Bruyne, as Draxler was that good.

Man screw this - the window has been pretty boring so far and it needs spiced up... I think Tifo should make a series (in conjunction to sensible transfers) of un-sensible transfers. I want to see the Honey Nut Monster playing as a right sided centre back - nothing is getting past that brute. The cereal chemistry will be in full flow as he links up with the Coco pops monkey in midfield, being able to find the creative passes and literally climb up on the opposition in the box.
Pray tell, who's playing upfront? Of course it's Terry the Tiger... Lightning pace and deadly in front of goal.
Get them managed by Kellogg himself and you've got a top 6 team easily... Couple good windows and you're looking at a title challenge!

As a toon fan I see loads of people expecting 4/5 big signings. But I think 1 big player at a good age(Tonali) to keep adding to our core and 1 or 2 sensible signings is good enough. 2 years time we will probably be in a position to consistently compete
The most pressing and sensible needs are well known to be a versatile holding CM a natural LB and versatile attacking midfielder.
Not sure why you've gone for RW and CB when those are lower on the priority list. Especially replacing Schar one of last seasons best CBs ahead of an out of position Burn at LB...
Even so, CB options highly unlikely, the sensible options are more likely Tapsoba, Adarabioyo, etc.

I'd say instead of replacing Schar, focus on Burn. Burn is an excellent type of player to rotate in and provide height and depth, and replacing his position should be a huge focus.
Adding in a player to replace almiron and murphy on the right side is very much needed as well... Those two are great to rotate in and provide depth in one way or another, but probably arent the types you should be relying on there.
Tonali should be great long-term though. Excited to see how he develops with Bruno and Joe

Schar is criminally underrated
player of the season for me last year but we do have to be proactive with that position, wrong side of 30 and we need cover so a young developing CB who is willing to fight for his place would be great.

Tbh i dont think Güler is ready for the prem. He has so much talent and has the potential to be one of the best but physically it will be a problem. Im a Fener fan and i’ve seen him against big physical defenders and the prem is full of them. I think like you said; benfica or dortmund will be a better option for him now. I would love to see it work in the prem tho… he is just one of those players who make you fall in lovewith the game

Diaby, Szoboslai, Tonali, Tierney and A.Silva or Bella is a great team to be in the champions league and premier league
LW is NOT a priority. Not just because of Gordon who will now have a full pre-season with Howe under his belt and be ready to kick on, but because of Joelinton. Last season all of his best performances were on the left of our front 3, and as soon as we have sufficient depth in centre of midfield he will be our go-to, first-choice left winger, and you'd have to spend £120m+ to improve on him.
We could happily sell ASM and do absolutely splendidly with Big Joe, Isak, Gordon and Anderson covering the left forward position. RW is a much bigger priority as Almiron has already reverted to the mean and as much as I love Murphy and expect lots of contributions from him this season we need some real quality on that side to balance Joelinton or Isak on the other wing.

Guler genuinely is the closest thing to a next Messi. I had no idea who he was before this video however your description of him could easily have applied to Messi. Having gone and watched some clips of him (yes clips aren’t always conclusive), he really is Messi-like.
Nah he's nothing like Messi, if anything Emre Mor (his teammate at Fenerbahce) is similar to Messi in the way he carries the ball glued to his feet, has more pace than Arda etc. Not sure who I'd compare him to, and he's for sure a good youngster, but nothing like Messi technically.

A creative midfielder or #10 and a CDM. Good defense and good attackers but weak in midfield. Bruno G and Tonali are good players but they need cover for them.
